Nissan Claims 'World's Cleanest Car' Crown

Nissan is claiming the title of "world's cleanest car" by coating a 2015 Nissan Leaf in superhydrophobic and olephobic paint. The paint repels water and oil by creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment. It rejects water and oils so efficiently that dirt doesn't have a chance to set or streak, according to Nissan. Water and oil bead and wick away from the car's body, leaving the green machine clean. The paint is called Ultra-Ever Dry and it was developed by UltraTech International. It's just an experiment so far that's not yet been added to any production vehicles, but the paint company says Nissan is one of the first automakers to take an interest in the technology. Nissan has been tinkering with the paint for several months, and coated a European Note hatchback to showcase its possibilities. "No matter what the road throws at this Leaf, its Ultra-Ever Dry exterior coating will throw right back," UltraTech International Inc. CEO Mark Shaw told a crowd during a TED talk. Nissan leaning on JATCO to remedy CVT problems

Nissan's decision to fit continuously variable transmissions across even more of its new models may be coming back to bite the Japanese automaker, as it's been hampered by customer satisfaction issues relating to its XTronic CVTs, which are provided by a supplier called JATCO.
From what we're understanding, the issue largely relates to customers' unfamiliarity with the non-traditional shift nature of a CVT. Dealers have reported complaints and service visits from owners over the belt-driven automatics (did these people not test drive the cars before they bought them and notice that they don't shift conventionally?).
The company, which Nissan owns 75 percent of, has come under fire from none other than Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, who's spoken about JATCO and its troubles rather openly. "Every time you launch a new CVT you always have some risks," Ghosn said in an interview with Automotive News. "So we now have a process by which, before we launch any new CVT, [JATCO] come before the Nissan executive committee to explain all the measures they have taken to make sure there are no surprises."

The Carlos and Dieter Show promises more collaboration

Daimler and Renault-Nissan said Friday the automakers have expanded their four-year-old alliance to include putting a Renault diesel in the Mercedes C-Class, a Mercedes gasoline engine in an Infiniti and possibly will involve automated driving technologies in the near future. At a joint Paris Motor Show press conference dubbed 'The Carlos and Dieter Show' by European media, Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn and Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said the alliance between the automakers is running strong and will expand into any area that makes financial sense for both companies.

Daimler and Renault-Nissan began their partnership in 2010 with plans to collaborate on three projects. They've since expanded that and are working on 12 projects together, including building a joint plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Renault-Nissan and Daimler are launching their first vehicles developed together from scratch: the Renault Twingo (which went on sale in September) and the new Smart Fortwo and Smart Forfour, which go on sale in November.
