I bought this car new from South Point Nissan in Austin, Texas on 7/28/03. I used it as my commuter vehicle for the better part of ten years until getting something larger last fall. Since then I've driven it to work an average of once per week. It is in good condition, though it is an older car, shows some wear, and has typical paint chips and maintenance needs. Interior is in good shape as well. It has generally been a very reliable daily driver for me and is a blast to drive.

I really enjoy driving this car. It has good power and responsiveness and corners nicely. The six speed manual is a ton of fun. I changed the oil with Mobil 1 synthetic every 4,000 miles until the car reached 100k miles and since then I've changed it every 5,000 miles. This car has never seen anything other than a Nissan oil filter, and got a new one with every oil change.

On 6/6/05 while I was driving to work (in Texas), a lady in the lane to my left going the same direction as me swerved into my lane to avoid someone crossing over the center line into her lane. The car sustained body damage to the left front and also on the right side as the car careened into the safety rail on that side. I took the car back to the dealership and it had about $4,500 worth of bodywork repairs done. Since then I've driven the car over 100k miles and while the front bumper sags a bit, the accident didn't adversely impact the way the car drives and you generally can't tell it was in an accident. I drove the car up when we moved to Maryland in mid-2006 and it has been up here since, after spending its first three years in Central Texas.

The car has been modestly modified for performance, fuel economy, and reliability. In August of 2004 I bought and installed a Hotshot header (exhaust manifold). These cars are known to have trouble with the stock exhaust manifold catalytic converter breaking up and being sucked into the engine which causes catastrophic engine failure. Changing to the aftermarket header alleviated that risk altogether. In 2013 the Hotshot header rusted out around the bottom midpipe flange and I purchased a like-new NISMO header and installed it. The O2 sensor that was located inside the stock manifold has been relocated behind the cat in the midpipe using a DC sports extender harness that uses the stock car and sensor harnesses (no wires were cut) and I replaced the O2 sensor when I installed the NISMO header. The car has passed MD state emissions inspection every other year, as required.

In December of 2004 I bought and installed an aftermarket Stromung stainless steel exhaust. The Stromung is a top quality piece with a nice exhaust note, and a highly desired part. I also installed an AEM cold air intake and solid motor mount inserts that eliminate "wheel hop" when the front wheels spin. I installed a lightened crank pulley as well.  Other than those external engine mods the car is largely stock.

Recent maintenance includes:

New brake rotors and ceramic pads and bled the brakes in April of 2014.

In August of 2013 I replaced the battery.

In the winter of early 2013 as I was driving home from work the serpentine belt broke. I took the car to the Nissan dealer and they replaced the belt as well as drained the cooling system and replaced with new coolant.

In December of 2012 when the car had 120k miles on it, I had new Bridgestone Potenza RE970 ultra high performance all weather tires installed on the car at Costco. These tires are very highly rated by TireRack and I've found them to handle really well even in wet weather with good ride quality. The tires were rotated at 127,500 miles and now have about 10k miles on them.

In the summer of 2012 an air conditioning line ruptured and the A/C lost function. I took the car to the Nissan dealer, where they replaced the hard line and re-charged the A/C. The air conditioning cools as good as new now.

The OEM headlights had become pretty clouded and one of the driving lights didn't function so this spring I replaced them with new TYR complete headlamp assemblies. I also had a brake light out so last month I replaced both brake lamp bulbs in the rear.

The car is over 10 years old and has over 100k miles on it so it isn't perfect. The front end has paint chips, particularly on the hood. The windshield has minor chips and scratches typical of a car this age.  There is a small, barely noticeable dent on the driver's side rear quarter panel that has been there since the day my son was born (long story). The driver's side door has some bubbling on the front edge down low which indicates rust underneath (pictured). Besides that the car doesn't show obvious signs of rust. The stock radio functions fine but the CD player ate the last CD I put in it, so I'd assume that doesn't work.

Overall the car has served me very well and should have a lot of good years left in it with continued diligent care. As I said, it is great fun to drive.  Blue Book value for "good" (defined as better/worse than 50% of the used cars out there) condition is $3,250.  This is a NO RESERVE auction and the car will go to the winning bidder at the end of the auction.

Car is located in Maryland and I have clear title in hand.  Car is described accurately herein but is for sale as-is, where-is.  I am willing to work with the buyer's chosen transporter, but buyer is responsible for any and all shipping fees.  $500 deposit due via Paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction.  The balance is to be paid in cash at the time the vehicle is collected.

Nissan Rogue gives brand rare monthly sales lead over Honda

Tue, 04 Feb 2014

The five top-selling brands in the automotive industry are usually Ford, Toyota, Chevy, Honda and Nissan, in that order. This lineup emerged intact when counting a year's worth of sales for 2013, and there was no reason to expect it would change at the beginning of 2014. But it did. Thanks to surging sales of its all-new Rogue, Nissan managed to pull ahead of Honda to become the fourth best-selling auto brand in January 2014, selling 81,472 units (an increase of 10.41 percent compared to January 2013) to Honda's 80,808 (a decrease of 3.96 percent).
The Rogue led the way for Nissan, contributing an additional 4,880 units in January compared to the same month last year - a 54.5-percent increase for a grand total of 13,831 units. But the Rogue had help, with the Frontier pickup adding an extra 2,307 units (an 87.9-percent increase), the Juke an extra 1,081 units (a 45.8-percent increase), the Altima an extra 1,051 units (a 4.9-percent increase) and the Maxima an additional 983 units (a 32.9-percent increase). Honda, meanwhile, was hurt by falling sales of the Accord (down 13.9 percent) and Pilot (down 7.6 percent), and stagnant sales of the Civic.
Honda, however, should take pride in the fact that it's luxury division, Acura, outsold Infiniti, Nissan's luxury division, last month - 10,823 units sold to 8,998. That margin of victory was large enough to keep the parent company of American Honda ahead of Nissan North America for the month of January.

Bug-eyed next-gen Nissan Titan spied testing

Fri, 28 Jun 2013

It's no secret that the fullsize pickup truck market is dominated by offerings from Detroit's Big Three automakers, the Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra not able to outdo the Ford F-150, Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra twins. A great deal of that has to do with the fact that, while the American trucks have all undergone evolutionary updates that include a range of body styles, fuel-efficient engines and excellent technology, the Japanese offerings are, well, really old. Toyota is offering an updated Tundra for the 2014 model year, and while we haven't driven it yet, we're already betting that it's still behind the pack in terms of competitiveness - the 2013 model placed fifth out of sixth in a recent PickupTrucks.com comparison test.
At the bottom of the pack lies the Nissan Titan, a truck that hasn't received any sort of substantial update since its introduction nearly ten years ago. But that's going to change - a new truck is slated to debut for the 2015 model year, and these spy shots of a Titan mule clearly show that things are moving forward.
While this tester relies heavily on the current truck's bodywork for testing purposes, the new Titan will have a revised design, some of which is evidenced by the bug-eyed front fascia of this mule. No, the production model isn't going to look all weird (we hope), but the higher, more outboard headlight placement suggests that the new truck will be a bit wider than the current model.

Nissan testing experimental dealer with no desks or offices

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

Nissan thinks it has found a better way to sell cars, and it involves stripping showrooms of everything but the cars and sales team. The brand calls the experiment the Nissan New Retail Concept, and it might get tested in the US in a few years.
The concept is relatively simple. Showrooms ditch offices, reception counters, cubicles and desks. Instead salespeople walk around inside and outside the dealer with mobile devices to assist customers and even complete sales. Associates are trained to take immediate responsibility for each visitor they encounter. For example, if owners comes inside with a problem with their vehicle, the employee escorts them to the service department and introduces them.
A dealer in London has been testing the new layout for the last nine months, and so far it reports better customer satisfaction, loyalty and most importantly higher sales. Nissan next plans to launch test stores in Moscow and Stuttgart. Then it will broaden out to more of Western Europe and finally will be tested in the Japan, the US and the Middle East, according to Automotive News.
