Following a hiatus in 2008, the 2009 Nissan Murano picks up where the 2007 model left off in terms of offering lots of performance and amenities in a crossover SUV.The Murano returns in three trim levels--S, SL, and LE. The S and SL are available in either front- or all-wheel drive, while the top-of-the-line LE only comes in all-wheel drive. All models are powered by Nissan's ubiquitous and exceptional 24-valve 3.5L V6, which now puts out 265 horsepower and 248 ft-lbs of torque, and all make use of the company's second-generation continuously variable transmission (CVT). Limited slip is optional on FWD models and standard on AWD models. All 2009 Murano models feature a 60/40 split fold-flat rear seat, dual power mirrors, UV-reducing glass, push-button ignition, electroluminescent gauges, dual-zone automatic climate control, one-touch power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with cruise control, three handy 12-volt outlets, and a six-disc in-dash AM/FM stereo with MP3 capability. The SL adds fog lights, rear privacy glass, an eight-way power driver's seat, power return rear seatbacks, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.Step up to the top-line LE and you get 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic high-intensity discharge (HID) xenon headlights, dual heated mirrors, a power liftgate, Bluetooth phone system, an information center with a seven-inch screen, a power tilt/telescopic steering column, driver's seat memory, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a retractable cargo cover, four-way power to the passenger's seat, heated leather seats front and rear, wood accents, a Bose stereo system with speed sensitive volume control, and XM satellite radio.Several packages are available on the 2009 Murano. The Premium Package features a Bose stereo, XM satellite radio, a security system, and more, while a Technology Package includes HID headlights, intelligent keyless entry and ignition, and rain-sensing wipers. A leather package, navigation and music package, and a DVD package are also available for about $2,000 each.Standard safety features on all 2009 Muranos include six air bags, traction and dynamic stability control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. Renault-Nissan debuts new Common Module Family for future vehicles
Thu, 20 Jun 2013Platform sharing is nothing new for the 14-year-old Renault-Nissan Alliance, but this partnership is set to introduce new modular platform components that will eventually underpin 11 Renault models and three Nissan vehicles by 2020. Rather than being a typical platform, the Common Module Family (CMF) actually represents five segments of a platform that can be used in various applications, and one of the first vehicles to use this architecture will be the 2014 Nissan Rogue (spy shots of which are shown below) when it arrives "in late 2013."
As pictured in the image above (click to expand), CMF is composed of four chassis component, principally the front underbody, rear underbody, engine bay and cockpit as well as a common electrical system. Besides the next-gen Rogue, future Nissan models to share CMF will include the Qashqai and X-Trail, while Renault models will start using the platform next year on vehicles including the Scénic and Laguna. The CMF architecture is expected to help the Alliance reduce the parts cost of a vehicle by up to 30 percent and reduce the entry cost by up to 40 percent. The official press release with more details about CMF, and what it means for Renault-Nissan, is posted below.
Nissan teases Sao Paolo CUV concept, production future likely
Thu, 16 Oct 2014Back in 2012 at Brazil's São Paulo Motor Show, Nissan showed off an angular subcompact crossover concept, Extrem, that seemed to to portend the future of the Nissan Juke. Now, the Japanese automaker is teasing an as-yet-unnamed CUV concept for this year's show. The new showcar, set for an October 28 unveiling, is expected to be a closer-to-production version of the Extrem ethos.
Why should we care? Autoblog has reason to believe that this vehicle is under consideration for global distribution. The production Extrem - or whatever it ends up being called - is likely to be positioned size-wise in between the Juke and the recently upsized Rogue, offering more space and still-adventuresome styling, yet at a less expensive price. If accurate, that sounds like the production model will be a fair bit larger than the conceptual Xtrem, which was built atop a modified version of Nissan's V-platform, a model that underpins its March supermini (and speaking of the March, Nissan has also teased what looks to be a sporty concept version of it for the Brazilian show, too).
It's important to note that Nissan already has a bustling small CUV portfolio globally, what with its popular Qashqai / X-Trail models in markets beyond ours. There continues to be persistent rumors that Nissan is considering bringing over the Qashqai, as well, a model seemingly already quite close in size and execution to the Rogue. Despite this, Nissan has shown no hesitation in exploring every niche of the burgeoning CUV market, and while not every derivative has been a success, models like the Juke have rewarded the company's bravery with handsome sales.
Nissan Patrol attempts Guinness record with 170-ton cargo plane tow
Fri, 23 Aug 2013Yesterday, Nissan teased us with a video showing a Patrol pulling up to a 170-ton cargo plane at an airport in the Middle East - we could only assume that the not-for-America sports utility vehicle would attempt to tow the jet.
Well, somebody leaked the official Nissan video, which indeed shows the Patrol successfully pulling the plane 30 meters for what reportedly is a Guinness world record. While Guinness hasn't confirmed the record on its website at time of writing, the 170-ton jet would be the heaviest plane ever towed by a production automobile. The video was taken down quickly, but another video shot by an observer at the event was posted for our enjoyment. We figured Nissan would move to repost the official video sooner rather than later, and it did.
The Patrol seems to have no problem towing 340,000 pounds, but let's just say it wasn't a quick ordeal. Check out the official and unofficial video of the tow below, as well as Nissan's teaser video. In a reversal of fortunes, we also threw in another, somewhat smaller but perhaps just as impressive vid, just for fun.
