PERFORMANCE

3.8-liter twin-turbocharged 24-valve V6 engine

Press the Nissan GT-R® accelerator and you feel more than raw power. The 545-hp twin-turbo V6 may be massive in strength, yet it’s highly refined, even earning ULEV-II emissions rating. Rather than traditional cast-iron liners, each cylinder features a unique plasma coating on cylinder walls, with an independent intake system for each bank of cylinders. The powerful twin turbo takes advantage of a Premium Midship (PM) design for balance, where much of the engine sits back in the chassis. Uniquely brilliant, built to perform.

Dual clutch 6-speed transmission with three driver-selectable modes

Two clutches, no clutch pedal. The GT-R® 6-speed sequential dual-clutch transmission shifts as quickly as 0.15 seconds when in R-Mode. Inside are separate clutches for the odd and even gears. When in an odd-numbered gear, the adjacent even-numbered gear is “pre-selected,” ready to make the shift immediately. Then, to achieve ideal front-to-rear weight distribution, the GT-R® clutches, transmission and transfer case are mounted in the rear of the chassis, creating the world’s first independent rear transaxle for an All-Wheel Drive vehicle.

ATTESA E-TS® All-Wheel Drive (AWD)

Instead of the traditional 50/50 torque split between front and rear axles, GT-R’s electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive system provides up to 100% of available torque to the rear wheels, and can send up to 50% of torque to the front wheels. This provides the steering feel and response of a rear-wheel vehicle, while giving the added confidence that only AWD can offer.

Bilstein® DampTronic® suspension system with three driver-selectable modes

The Bilstein® DampTronic® uses computerized control to continually adjust shock absorber damping. The system has three driver-selectable driving modes and constantly monitors vehicle speed, lateral acceleration, torque, engine rpm and braking behavior to help provide the ideal ride/handling balance. To match the precision of the other GT-R® suspension components, high-accuracy progressive-rate springs were developed and manufactured to extremely high tolerances. [*]

Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with three driver-selectable modes

Most stability control systems cut engine power or apply the brakes when they sense a loss of control. That's fine for the road, but slow going in competition conditions. While cornering with the advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system in R-Mode, it actually sends more power to the appropriate wheels when it senses oversteer or understeer, helping to keep it on the steered course, a much quicker way to go in track conditions. [*]

Nissan/Brembo® braking system

The GT-R® has massive 15.4" front rotors and 15.0" rear rotors are designed to shed high speeds, so they can easily tame a long downhill run. As the brakes heat up, unique “floating disc” rotors expand freely from their hubs. Diamond-pattern ventilation inside each disc rapidly extract heat and ducting in the wheel wells sweep it away. [*]

EXTERIOR

Multi-LED headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System and signature lighting

Developed exclusively for GT-R,® the new headlights feature four LED units to create an extremely natural light, the color of daylight, while also offering increased illumination. The super-wide-beam headlights expand the area of illumination toward the sides of the front of the car, enhancing visibility, especially when cornering. The headlights also adjust their illumination pattern relative to vehicle speed.

LED Daytime Running Lights

Make a visual statement with powerful LED Daytime Running Lights. Twelve high-intensity lights enhance the look of your GT-R® and increase vehicle presence when the headlights are off.

LED Taillights

The Nissan GT-R® sports efficient, high-intensity, multi-LED headlights that create a distinctive “lightning” motif, generating a striking exterior visual signature. With such a unique visual reference, the GT-R®’s road presence is enhanced, particularly in low-light and at night—while the fitment of the new headlights help gives the driver increased visibility. At the rear, the GT-R’s distinctive four-ring tail light signature now forms coherent circles of illumination, giving the GT-R an equally distinctive appearance, making it easily recognizable to fellow owners and enthusiasts.

20" Special dark-finished super-lightweight forged-alloy RAYS® wheels

20" super-lightweight dark-finished aluminum forged RAYS® wheels have knurled beads that help keep tires from slipping around the wheels under hard acceleration. [*]

Exclusively developed tires, nitrogen-filled at factory

Consider everything you expect from a tire—great grip, smooth ride, consistent performance—then add the necessity of taming 545 horsepower along with one of the most advanced powertrains and responsive suspensions Nissan has ever built. The Dunlop® SP Sport MAXX GT600 DSST CTT high-performance tires are filled with nitrogen, rather than conventional air, because nitrogen significantly reduces pressure changes during high-performance driving. [*]

Premium Midship (PM) platform with hybrid unibody

By using a powerful twin-turbo V6 rather than a larger and heavier V8 or V12, the Nissan GT-R® exploits its PM design for ultimate balance. In the PM design, much of the engine sits well back in the chassis behind the front axle—for crisper turn-in, quick steering response and overall balance. The lighter, more compact engine also pays dividends in performance and other interior room.

Dry carbon-fiber rear spoiler

The Black Edition’s rear spoiler is as breathtaking to the eye as it is slippery to the wind. Hand made in a limited monthly production run, the lightweight carbon fiber is also incredibly strong. To make it a feast for the senses, a special coating allows you to feel the weave of the carbon fiber. [*]

Aerodynamic undertrays with vented carbon-fiber composite rear diffuser

One of the greatest Nissan GT-R® aerodynamic breakthroughs is nearly invisible. With traditional vehicles, air hitting components underneath the vehicle creates drag—slowing the car and creating lift—reducing grip and traction. By using a series of composite panels beneath the Nissan GT-R® (a technique derived from racecars), cooling air can be channeled to the running gear, while the underside remains clear of obstructions, creating downforce that literally pulls the car to the road. [*]

INTERIOR

Driver-configurable Multi-Function Display system

For GT-R®, we reinvented how a driver gets performance information. Collaborating with PolyPhony Digital®, creators of the famed Gran Turismo™ racing games, we built an intuitive system that clearly displays performance, cornering, acceleration, and g-force data. It even keeps track of your lap times. [*]

Nissan Hard Drive Navigation System

With Nissan GT-R®’s touch-screen navigation system with voice recognition and a high-resolution screen, the world is at your command. It features a hard drive-based system for quick response, while NavTraffic advisories in real time help keep you ahead of the crowd. You can even keep track of the weather with NavWeather or get trusted restaurant ratings and reviews with Zagat Survey.® [*]

RearView Monitor

With the RearView Monitor, when you back-up, a discreet camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle helps you see what’s directly behind you. The system also includes a convenient new, wide 180? view, so even parking is a quick and easy affair. [*]

Nissan Intelligent Key® with Push Button Ignition

The Nissan Intelligent Key® lets you tap a button on the door handle to unlock your GT-R®, while your keys stay in your pocket or purse. With the standard Push Button Ignition feature, you just get in, push the button and go.

Black/Red Recaro® leather-appointed front seats

Recaro® leather-appointed front seats are undoubtedly built for performance. These bolstered sports seats help keep you in place, while cutouts in the driver’s seat cushion facilitate leg movement. The distinctive black leather with red accents revs up your interior. [*]

Black/Red interior treatment

The Black Edition is outfitted with an aggressive black and red interior treatment. Red accents slash through the black leather-appointed interior, highlighting features like the shift knob and door handles. Plus, a black headliner is a striking detail.

Carbon-fiber and charcoal brushed-metal interior trim

The GT-R® interior sports a sleek trim of carbon-fiber and charcoal brushed-metal throughout, highlighting the ergonomic, modern design of the performance cockpit.

Bose® audio system with Active Noise Control

The 11-speaker Bose® audio system works with the performance features of the GT-R®. The aluminum speaker mounts in the doors give the body rigidity, which has nothing to do with music and everything to do with performance. In the back, two subwoofers between the seats were designed to use the trunk as a giant bass enclosure. New Active Noise Control technology uses a microphone in the ceiling to identify undesirable low-frequency engine sounds and neutralizes them with sound waves of the opposite phase. The result – a quieter driving experience which still preserves the invigorating sounds of engine performance. [*]

Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System

The Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System activates via steering wheel-mounted controls. Now you can keep up connections no matter where the road takes you. [*]

SAFETY

Nissan Advanced Air Bag System

Nissan Advanced Air Bag System includes dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage air bags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage. [*]

Driver and front-passenger side-impact and roof-mounted curtain supplemental air bags

Standard side-impact supplemental air bags are built into the seats, so they move with you as you adjust your seat. Standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags help protect you and your passenger by deploying from above. [*]

3-point ALR/ELR passenger seat belt system (ELR for driver)

The ALR/ELR seat belts in the GT-R® are equipped with pretensioners, which are designed to take up slack in the belt automatically and to lock in place when the passenger moves forward at a higher than normal rate of speed.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with individual tire pressure display

TPMS monitors tires for low inflation pressure, which can shorten tire life and reduce the load-carrying capabilities of the vehicle. [*]

RC car drift video brings Fast and Furious style in 1:10 scale

Mon, Apr 13 2015

Taking a cue from Lexus' 2015 Super Bowl ad Let's Play, Falken Tire is proving that RC cars can drift just as well, if not better, than their full-size counterparts. However, to make things four times as exciting, this clip eschews a single hopped-up model hanging its tail out in favor of a quartet of them sliding around together. Starring 1:10 RC versions of popular drift machines like the Nissan S15 Silvia, Mazda FD-chassis RX-7 and Initial D star Toyota Corolla AE86, these cars also get a suite of blinking LEDs to lend some extra color to all of the tire spinning. Plus, the use of well-positioned cameras and a scale model environment almost makes this group look like they're at work in the real world. Nissan breaks annual EV sales record with two months to spare

Thu, Oct 30 2014

Nissan has sold more pure EVs in the US this year than any other automaker, ever. And there are still two selling months left. Last year, Nissan sold a record 22,610 Leaf electric vehicles in the US. This year, through the end of September, Nissan sold 21,822 Leafs and has been selling more than 2,000 a month for the last seven months (in some cases, over 3,000). Basic math skills make it clear that 2014 would handily beat 2013, so now we get to play the guessing game to figure out by how much. Nissan isn't yet saying what October sales were (the month isn't over yet, and we're expecting the numbers on Monday) but if we look up the general trend for the last quarter of 2013, sales stayed steady (compared to the previous months) in October and November and then shot up in December. Given the overall increase in 2014 versus 2013 (up 36 percent through the end of September), who wants to bet that Nissan will sell more than 30,000 Leafs this year? Anyone? Compare Leaf sales with the other plug-in vehicle that went on sale alongside the Leaf at the end of 2010: the Chevy Volt sold over 23,000 units in 2012 and 2013 but is way down so far this year (14,540 through the end of September). An updated Volt will go on sale in the second half of 2015. Nissan has not disclosed when a new Leaf will go on sale. Nissan has sold over 142,000 first-gen Leafs around the world and over 64,000 in the US. Nissan LEAF sets annual U.S. electric vehicle sales record - again NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With more than two months remaining, Nissan LEAF has shattered the record for the most U.S. electric vehicle sales in a single calendar year, surpassing the previous record of 22,610 that it set in 2013. "With nearly 20 electric cars or plug-in hybrid models on the road today, Nissan LEAF remains at the head of the class, outselling the nearest competitor by 50 percent through September," said Brendan Jones, director, Nissan electric vehicle Sales and Infrastructure. "Since the initial launch in 2010 our primary goal is to bring electric vehicles to the mass market in a practical and fun-to-drive package, and we continue to deliver electric cars to more new buyers than anyone else." LEAF sales in 2014 through September are up more than 36 percent compared to the same period last year. With more than 142,000 LEAF sales globally since launch and more than 64,000 of those in the U.S., Nissan is the global leader in electric vehicles. (Nissan will announce October U.S. sales on Monday, Nov.

Nissan Qashqai getting Juke-R treatment

Wed, 20 Mar 2013

As long as there are sacred cows, there will be heretics sharpening their knives in anticipation of the butchering. When Nissan first carved into the mighty GT-R to create the Juke-R, onlookers quickly fell into two camps: those who thought the plan was sheer genius and those who believed cannibalizing a GT-R to feed a Juke was a new brand of obscenity. We fell firmly in the former camp. Now Severn Valley Motorsport is looking to take that theme one step further by shoving the go-faster bits from a GT-R into a Nissan Qashqai. That noise you hear? It's us cackling like mad men.
While we can't say for certain, we're guessing the project should yield the world's fastest Qashqai thanks in no small part to the twin-turbocharged VR38DETT V6 engine from the GT-R. Throw in the all-wheel-drive system and the little CUV should change demeanor dramatically. We can't wait to see this thing in action.
