This car is fantastic.  I’ve personally cared for this car over the majority its lifespan, since August 2005 (purchased with ~600 miles), and I’ve done everything to make sure it has had the best of everything.  I am selling because my fiance and I have 2 cars, but only one parking space and we rarely drive, since we both take the metro every day.

I chose to sell the car on ebay because I’m not trading in for another car, the car has a lot of extra parts and accessories included that are part of the deal, and I think this is the best place to find the perfect buyer that will appreciate the enhancements and thorough care put into the car.  In addition, I don’t want to haggle on price, I want the car to speak for itself and let it fetch the price it deserves.

My goal is to be as forthcoming and thorough as possible in this description, but if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Overview:

My original expectation was that I was going to keep the car forever and my intention was to keep it running BETTER than new for 200,000+ miles.  Obviously I’ll never see that happen since I’m selling it, but hopefully I’ve laid the groundwork for the next owner to see that happen.  Another motivation was to have the absolute best performing maintenance items in the car so that the car can handle anything from braking reliably down a steep mountain or zipping out of a dangerous situation on an on-ramp.

Maintenance has been a major focus of mine with this car, but I’ve also done some (what I consider to be) “tasteful” enhancements to the car to try and capture its potential.  I have always made absolutely sure that everything I have done to the car is fully reversible and I’ve kept every single stock part that I’ve replaced so that I or the future owner can put the car back to absolute stock condition.  In other words, no holes/cutting or irreversible modifications have been done to the vehicle, all parts have used the stock mounting locations.  With the performance accessories, the car has always been driven responsibly by an adult and never taken to a track.  The car has never been in an accident.  Please feel free to run a Carfax and have your mechanic inspect it.

Update: As a matter of fact, please do run a carfax- After creating the ebay listing, I'm noticing an erroneous odometer reading on the ebay "AutoCheck" vehicle history which is seriously throwing off the report.  I checked the carfax a year ago and did not see this issue.  I am looking into this with ebay and will hopefully get it resolved.

I will make myself fully available during the duration of the auction to show the car.  Please try to come see it while there is daylight (my condo has weird rules about not selling cars in the garage so I have to pull it outside).  I am very motivated to sell soon so the reserve is well below the conservative blue book value on this listing.  I have the title in hand and I'm prepared for a smooth transaction.

 Body:

The car just received a full professional exterior detailing (3 stage buffing plus wax) from Like New Auto Detailing and while there, I had all of the dings and dents removed so the body is in great condition.

The car has had an invisible bra on the front since it came from the dealership in 2005 and I left that on for the next owner to continue to protect the paint, replace, or just take off.

The car has been garage kept for the last few years, but when it was parked outside, it was not immune to the birds and trees, so under certain light you can see some inconsistencies in the paint.  These imperfections are mainly on the hood, roof, and hatch but are not overly noticeable as you can see in the pictures.

Interior:

I’ve kept the interior extremely clean over its life.  Even with its low use, I get the carpets shampooed at least once a year.  It has never been smoked in.  There is some minor wear and tear consistent with a car of this age.  Two items on the interior are a discolored spot in front of the shifter and a small tear in the passenger side window tint, which has been like that since I first got the car with 600 miles on it.  Both of these things can be pretty easily fixed if you choose to do so.

The aftermarket stereo is extremely practical.  It has HD Radio, Bluetooth (phone and audio streaming), USB, and AUX jack.  It is more than adequate, but if desired the future owner can replace it back with the stock radio or another aftermarket system (most should pop right into the aftermarket kit installed).

Engine:

Currently Amsoil Full Synthetic 5W-30 and Amsoil Oil Filter.  Has had Full Synthetic oil running in it since its first oil change with a magnetic drain plug.  Oil is typically still clean when I change it and I don't think it's ever burned a drop of oil.

K&N Performance Air Intake System

Kinetix V2 Plenum Intake Manifold (the VQ35 engine in the Z is notorious for starving the front two cylinders for air with the stock manifold, and this part relieves that bottleneck and makes the engine breathe properly, as well as cools down the intake air temperature since the part is made of composites and avoids heat soak)

Performance Stainless Steel Cat-Back Exhaust with Titanium Tips

Optima RED TOP battery

Brakes and Steering:

EBC Vented and Slotted Rotors

Hawk Performance Brake Pads

BG Full synthetic DOT 4 Brake Fluid

BG Full synthetic DOT 4 Clutch Fluid

BG Full Synthetic Power Steering Fluid

Tires:

Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2 tires filled with Nitrogen (All tires pass the Lincoln-head test - Rear tire, with the least tread overall, is pictured)

Drivetrain:

Redline Synthetic Transmission Fluid

Amsoil Synthetic Differential Fluid

*Something I thought I would mention regarding the drivetrain:  A handful of times in the past when I had to leave the car outside overnight in very cold temperatures, there would be a noise coming from the drivetrain for the first few minutes of driving.  It was obviously due to the cold and went away very quickly when the drivetrain warmed up.  I actually have not experienced this at all in the last few years (maybe because the car is always garage kept or it may just not exist anymore) but this has been in the back of my head and I wanted to be as forthcoming as possible and make sure there were no surprises.  From what I could gather on the forums, this is not an abnormal occurrence with this type of car given the tight mechanical clearances.

Miscellaneous:

Rear Hatch shocks just replaced

Light tint to the windows

Sylvania SilverStar ULTRA Headlights

Parking lamp bulbs recently replaced

Extras included with the sale:

Car Cover with lock - fitted for the 350z

Brand new K&N Oil Filter recharge kit

Cooling Plate for directing air through the radiator (I took the part off to paint it and never got around to it)

Test Pipes (fitted for 2-3k miles, and moved to Northern VA where there are emissions tests :) and never put back on)

Carbon Fiber Vented Hood (Never fitted to car.  It required drilling into the car to put hood pins and I could never bring myself to do it.  It was not easily returnable, and I never got around to selling it again.  You may need a separate SUV/Truck to pick this up when picking up the car)

Stock intake air box

Stock Exhaust system

Stock Intake Manifold

Stock Stereo

Renault delays decision on merger with Fiat Chrysler

Wed, Jun 5 2019

PARIS — Renault has delayed a decision on whether to merge with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, a deal that could reshape the global auto industry as carmakers race to make electric and autonomous vehicles for the masses. The deal still looks likely, but faced new criticism Tuesday from Renault's leading union and questions from its Japanese alliance partner Nissan. The French government is also putting conditions on the deal, including job guarantees and an operational headquarters based in France. The French carmaker's board will meet again at the end of the day Wednesday to "continue to study with interest" last week's merger proposal from FCA, Renault said in a statement. A Renault board meeting Tuesday to study the deal was inconclusive. The company didn't explain why, but a French government official said board members don't want to rush into a deal and are seeking agreement on all parts of the potential merger. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government policy, told The Associated Press the conditions outlined by France's finance minister still "need to be met." France and Italy are both painting themselves as winners in the deal, which could save both companies 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) a year. But workers worry a merger could lead to job losses, and analysts warn it could bog down in the challenges of managing such a hulking company across multiple countries. And a possible loser is Japan's Nissan, whose once-mighty alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi is on the rocks since star CEO Carlos Ghosn's arrest in November. Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa cast doubt Tuesday on whether his company will be involved in a Renault-Fiat Chrysler merger — and suggested adding Fiat Chrysler to the looser Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance instead. Saikawa said in a statement that the Renault-Fiat Chrysler deal would "significantly alter" the structure of Nissan's longtime partnership with Renault, and Nissan would analyze its contractual relationships to protect the company's interests. If Renault's board says "yes" to Fiat Chrysler, that would open the way for a non-binding memorandum of understanding to start exclusive merger negotiations. The ensuing process — including consultations with unions, the French government, antitrust authorities and other regulators — would take about a year. A merger would create the world's third-biggest automaker, worth almost $40 billion and producing some 8.7 million vehicles a year.

These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years

Thu, Nov 19 2020

The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss. Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
