Garage find in late 2010. A grand touring automobile in every sense of the word.

AT, CC, PW, PDL, Bose stereo, climate control a/c, optional metallic paint, optional driver's side air bag.  As found had 7 yr old gas in it.  Fuel system completely disassembled, two injectors replaced.  Has been driven only 4k miles since found - once on a 500 mile road trip, and several times on local cruises and to car shows.  Has new HP tires with 3k miles on them. Since major fuel system refurbishing, has run Amzoil synthetic only.  All other fluids drained and replaced in 2012. It gets about 22-24 mpg at any reasonable speed, but will do unreasonable speeds. All engine seals intact - no leaks. All equipment works.

All body panels are straight, no rust anywhere, no parking lot dings anywhere, no curb rash on the wheels. The vinyl under the T-tops and on the pull-out cover for the luggage compartment is as new.  All rubber body seals are intact.  The single mechanical modification was to replace the factory air intake with a Stillen unit, which freed up engine breathing and improved mileage and performance.  The original is intact and with the car.

One small interior blemish -- 1.6" on the driver's seat where a metal buckle on the first owner's jacket slightly scored the leather surface. A small 4" x 8" area at the very bottom of the LF quarter panel took a glancing rock in the ChipGuard.  That area has now been re-done, and the match now looks perfect. Otherwise mint. Always garaged every day of its life.

This was $38,000 new in 1991.  All original documentation and records are intact.  It was driven to one car show and took a first in class in Oriental Cars against some nicely turned-out competition.  The 3 oz sterling silver medal from that show will go with the car. All keys, including the original titanium key ($400 to replace) are included.  Several books, pamphlets etc from the Z32 series go with the car. Dash and car cover included.

My wife feels  the car is "too nice to drive" and feels that driving it is somewhat intimidating because "something might happen to it, and I'd feel terrible."  She's right -- it is that nice. On a sunshiny day, it even smells new!  I let this go Very reluctantly, but there's no sense in having it if my wife isn't comfortable driving it more than she does.

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.

UAW calls on US State Department to help with Nissan plant

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

The United Auto Workers is calling for reinforcements in its ongoing battle with Nissan at the manufacturer's Canton, MS factory, where the Altima, Armada, Titan and NV (and eventually, the next Murano) are built. The union has been attempting to organize the employees at the factory for several years, but it's been largely unsuccessful.
Now, Reuters is reporting that the UAW is teaming with the IndustriALL Global Union and requesting intervention by the US State Department, with both groups accusing Nissan of using "threats, intimidation and fear" to keep the 5,600 workers at the facility from organizing. The two unions say this violates the guidelines of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, an international organization dedicated to stimulating economic growth.
The UAW and IndustriALL are asking the State Department's National Contact Point to serve as mediator with Nissan, to make sure things play out fairly. Speaking to Reuters, though, there's at least one Michigan-based labor adviser that's skeptical of the move.

Nissan NV200 taxi goes on sale in NYC while mandate still being figured out

Sat, 12 Oct 2013

Cab drivers in New York City may not be mandated to purchase the Nissan NV200 "Taxi of Tomorrow" per the orders of a Supreme Court Judge, but that isn't stopping Nissan from beginning sales of the bright yellow people movers.
Speaking to Automotive News, Howard Koeppel, a Queens-based dealer said, "We just got them about three days ago, and we've sold five to individual operators. They're good cars." A fully loaded example of the Mexican-built taxi is priced at $29,700, and are due to officially begin service on October 28.
The NV is meant to be the go-to vehicle for NYC cabbies, mandated by the Taxi and Limousine Commission, although the process of switching over the city's 15,000 cabs has been ensnarled by legal proceedings virtually since the word "go."
