Rare Nice Rust Free Az 1978 Nissan 280zx Ac 4 Spd S30 Datsun Non Turbo Fairlady on 2040-cars
Tucson, Arizona, United States
1978 Datsun 280ZX Coupe Up for auction a nice clean unmolested 280ZX The car shows 71k on it and has really 1 original owner since 78-2012. The original owner kept pretty good records too that come with car. And its a nice original un restored Z. Which with a little interior work, would be a great car. Paint is original Az faded, but for a driver, its fine. The cars been a 2nd car for most of its life which explains the low miles which we think are original . Being an AZ CAR, expect little to NO RUST on or near the body etc. The chrome on both bumpers is in amazing shape. No pitting or rust - and they are straight on. Check out our feedback - feel comfortable buying from someone like us with GREAT large pics in our ads and GREAT FEEDBACK. Ive been driving the car around now for the last week almost daily and it has plenty of power, starts and runs great every time and is a blast to drive. Some things I know the car needs: Hi/low beam headlight switch not working / small dent LF fender / boot around the shifter torn or missing, you get alot of heat from the motor up thru there when driving. / and once in a while I hear a small rattle by the motor. Sounds like either maybe an alternator bearing or water pump ? I hear it from time to time, but havent pinned down whats making the noise. DRIVETRAIN: Original S30 L4 runs great with plenty of power in every gear. ALL stock - un molested just the way Nissan built it. Trans and clutch feel good too. INTERIOR: Showing it age from the Az sun over a 30 yr span but fine for a daily driver and would restore easily enough in a weekend. Headliner gone, dash cracked (cheap cover on it currently) seats and door panels showing wear. But again, this is all cosmetic and you could drive the car like this for more yrs if you wanted to. Glass is good, but the inside glass needs a good cleaning. Think it had window tint on it that was removed yrs ago. AC all connected and worked last summer, but now it is blowing cool, not cold. Unless Im not using the controls correctly. SUSPENSION: All stock original down to the OE alloy rims Feels good, but Im sure it will need some bushings if you looked hard. But no weird noises , but I the shocks are old and mushy. Tires decent, but nothing special. (We also are a tire dealer, so if you want a new set of tires installed on the car before taking delivery, let us know what you want and we can price it out for you, installed.) BODY: Really nice shape for its age. A few small dents and dings here and there, but some are so small they are hard to see in the pics. Air damn is in good shape, where most are torn or ripped off. Trunk struts work well. overall, this is a great Driver as is or would be an easy car to restore back to original. DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU ARE A REAL BUYER IF YOU HAVE LOW FEEDBACK AND ARE BIDDING PLEASE EMAIL US TO LET US KNOW YOU ARE LEGIT. NO EMAIL AND WE CAN CANCEL YOUR BID EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE THE PICS BELOW SPEAK VOLUMES but Im sure I may of overlooked some stuff. Check out over 120+ pics below, be patient it may take a minute for them to all load depending on your connection. Reasonable Reserve / which can be lowered too if we want to at anytime during the auction. Bid Early and bid smart so you dont lose out !! A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]
Thu, Dec 18 2014Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
Datsun expands low-cost revival with new Mi-Do in Moscow [w/video]
Fri, 29 Aug 2014Those who were disappointed when Datsun changed its name to Nissan over three decades ago may have been pleased to see the marque revived last year, even as a budget brand. Nissan's counterpart to its ally Renault's Dacia budget brand, Datsun has been steadily expanding its lineup of low-cost transportation for developing markets with the debut of the Go hatchback in India, the Go+ minivan in Indonesia and the On-Do sedan in Russia. And now it has returned to Moscow to reveal its fourth model, the Mi-Do.
Based closely on the On-Do sedan (which itself is based on the Lada Granta) the Mi-Do takes on a five-door hatchback bodystyle but with no more frills. It uses the same front-drive chassis with the same wheelbase as the sedan, but its chopped tail makes it a good foot and a half shorter overall. Into that compact shape, Datsun has fitted dual airbags, ABS and... well, that's about it. It's got a 1.6-liter, eight-valve inline-four kicking out a grand total of 87 horsepower to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Bare bones, this is.
While delivery of the first On-Do sedans commences next month (with the first example going to an IT specialist in Omsk), the Mi-Do is set to begin delivery early next year. Scope out the video and press release below from the Mi-Do's reveal at the Moscow Motor Show.
Nissan could offer plug-in hybrids by 2016
Fri, Jun 6 2014Nissan is recharging the idea of a production plug-in hybrid model. The Japanese automaker may start making a plug-in hybrid by as soon as late 2015, with deliveries to start in time for the 2016 model year, Green Car Reports says, citing an interview with company executive Andy Palmer. Those comments go against what Nissan said during the North American Auto Show in January. Palmer didn't specify what class of vehicle the plug-in hybrid would be, but he said battery-electric vehicles are best suited for cars 3,850 pounds or lighter, according to Green Car Reports. That would imply that the plug-in hybrid powertrain may be used for a mid-sized sedan or a crossover vehicle. Either way, a Nissan PHEV may pair the Nissan Leaf's 108-horsepower electric motor with a gas engine. Whether Palmer's projected timeframe was more of a ballpark estimate is anyone's guess, as the company hasn't made official plans for a 2016 model-year plug-in hybrid, Nissan spokesman Tim Gallagher wrote in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen. Either way, feel free to join us in the comments below. Nissan is coming off its best-ever sale month for the Leaf, which has moved about 115,000 units around the world. Domestic sales of the Leaf in May rose 46 percent from a year earlier to a monthly record 3,117 vehicles. Through the first five months of the year, Leaf sales increased 36 percent, to 10,389 units.
