Fiat introduces new Fullback pickup

Fiat has unveiled its first foray into the mid-size pickup truck market, the Fullback, at the Dubai Motor Show. It's not an entirely new product, confirming earlier reports. It's closely related to the Triton pickup (also known as the L200) that Mitsubishi builds in Thailand for markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Moreover, it's not likely ever to make it to North American showrooms. Riding on a 118-inch wheelbase, it measures 208 inches long, 71 inches wide and 70 inches tall. Those are identical measurements to the Mitsu, and give it roughly similar dimensions to the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon we get here. The Fullback can carry up to 2,300 pounds, and is powered by a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine available in either 150- or 180-horsepower states of tune, and mated to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Fiat Professional will roll out the Fullback in markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where it will compete against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Volkswagen Amarok. The new, medium-duty pick-up will join the award-winning FIAT Professional range in autumn 2016 and will be available only with a practical double cab body style configuration in the UK making it an ideal vehicle for both commercial and leisure time activities. Measuring up to 1,780mm in height, 1,815 mm in width and 5,285mm in length, with a wheelbase of 3,000mm, the new FIAT Fullback will offer a competitive payload of 1,045 kg and will be powered by a 2.4-litre, aluminium, turbo-diesel engine with a power output of either 150hp or 180hp.

2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport recalled for leaky transmission

The Basics: Mitsubishi Motors is recalling 45,731 Outlander Sport crossovers from model year 2015. Built between June 25, 2014 and November 25, 2015, the affected vehicles use the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and continuously variable transmissions. The Problem: A clamp on the CVT hose may have been installed incorrectly. If the hose comes off, transmission fluid can leak out. While the transmission will start acting up – and eventually grind to a halt – the bigger concern is what happens if the transmission fluid comes into contact with hot surfaces: fire. Injuries/Deaths: Thankfully, it doesn't sound any owners have crashed, caught fire, or been injured or killed due to loss of transmission fluid. Mitsubishi didn't list injuries or fatalities in its recall paperwork with NHTSA, but the chronology only describes "warranty claims," which sounds like the vehicles never caught fire. The Fix: Dealers will inspect the hose clamps on all 45,000 Outlander Sports and reinstall them if there's a problem. Repairs are free of charge. If you own one: Since NHTSA's bulletin doesn't advise owners on whether they should or shouldn't drive their vehicles, we recommend looking for leaks and checking your transmission fluid level as soon as possible. If it's low or leaking, you probably shouldn't drive. Mitsubishi's all-electric Pikes Peak challengers are in it to win it

With a second-place finish already in the books from 2012, there's only one thing on the minds of Mitsubishi drivers Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy: winning. As the presenting sponsor for the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, there's no doubt the Japanese manufacturer is hoping for a good showing this year, and the video you'll see below explains how Mitsubishi changed things this year to help ensure a win... basically, more power and more downforce.
Winning in 2013 certainly won't be easy. With competitors that include Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima and Rod Millen, who's driving for Toyota, winners in 2012 in the Electric class. Our own Jonathon Ramsey sat down and spoke with the boys from Mitsubishi, and found that, if not for the over-the-top presence from Peugeot, the the all-electric MiEV Evolution II (which may be a sort of test-bed for potential Lancer Evolution-of-the-future components) may even be capable of challenging for the overall victory.
