Mitsubishi previews new Attrage global sedan

It's been about a month since we first saw the Mitsubishi Concept G4 at the Shanghai Motor Show, but now the automaker has revealed the first images for the sedan in production trim. Wearing the Mitsubishi Attrage nameplate, this sedan will go on sale this summer in Thailand and could eventually makes its way to the US. Despite being essentially a sedan version of its subcompact Mirage, Mitsubishi refers to the Attrage as its next-generation global compact sedan, suggesting it's a fair bit larger than its hatchback counterpart.
We only have this single image to go on, but the new Attrage obviously has the same overall look as the Concept G4. As expected, it does lose some of the more conceptual bits, including the fancy headlights, grills and wheels. While the styling has us thinking back to the late 1990s, the true advantage of the Attrage is likely to be its fuel consumption. US fuel economy for the Attrage hasn't been released, but the closely related 2014 Mirage is expected to return 37 miles per gallon in the city and 44 mpg on the highway using the same 1.2-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander priced from $23,845

Mitsubishi is on a slight upswing in the US recently after its first, though small, profit in the country in seven years. The company is now reportedly looking to boost its product lineup, and one of the first big changes in a while comes with the launch of the refreshed, 2016 Outlander. Even with significant upgrades for the three-row crossover, the price is actually $200 lower than last year to start at $23,845 (including $850 destination on all models). The most obvious tweak for the 2016 refresh is the Outlander's attractive, all-new front fascia. The crossover now wears a grille that mixes gloss black and chrome slats, and the whole design is outlined in curving chrome that leads down to accentuate the foglights. At the rear, the upgrades aren't quite as drastic, but the addition of LED taillights lends a more modern look. However, the changes are more than skin deep, and Mitsubishi also claims over 100 engineering and design modifications for the vehicle. The engines carry over from last year, and most models get a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It's hooked up to a revised CVT that Mitsubishi claims offers better acceleration and torque delivery. Buyers can choose between either front- or all-wheel drive. The other option is the top-spec GT trim that comes with a 3.0-liter V6 making 224 hp and 215 lb-ft, a six-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive. Mitsubishi Pajero successor still years away, but plug-in hybrid tech likely

You might not know it from looking at today's Mitsubishi showrooms, but the struggling Japanese automaker has a pretty enviable reputation for producing robust off-roaders. Its Pajero SUV built a solid reputation worldwide on the back of its durability in harsh climates, earning it consideration alongside the likes of venerable explorers like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Range Rover. Unfortunately, the Pajero eventually succumbed to one particularly harsh climate - the North American truck market. After enjoying a long run, Mitsubishi finally pulled the plug on the SUV's Montero twin after the 2006 model year. Blame evolving consumer tastes, low brand visibility, a lackluster marketing budget, or the need for updated product - in fact, go ahead and blame all of the above.
Despite its age, the current fourth-generation Pajero (itself arguably an extensive rework of the previous model) has been carrying a lot of water for the brand in other parts of the world since its debut in 2006. So it's pretty well time for a new one. Problem is, its replacement is still a ways off. That's according to Australia's Go Auto, which has learned that the next-generation Pajero could still be three years away, if not longer.
According to Go Auto, the next model will be a much-changed beast, with design targets including a major weight loss and increased efficiency to go along with more luxurious appointments. In order to make gains in fuel economy, the plug-in hybrid technology that the company has already introduced for its new Outlander crossover will likely be a part of the SUV's development program.
