2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Gsr on 2040-cars
Branford, Florida, United States
Vehicle Overview
Mitsubishi's latest Lancer Evolution marks the pocket-rocket's 10th generation. It shares the current Lancer's body, which was introduced for 2008, and uses a 291-horsepower turbocharged engine. Public enemy No. 1 is Subaru's WRX STI. Mitsubishi bills the new Lancer as a better car for everyday driving, with extra sound-deadening materials and better torque distribution from the four-cylinder engine. Should you want to, you can tune the suspension for a more compliant ride. The all-wheel-drive system integrates an electronic stability system with an active center differential. The differential can split power between the front and rear wheels based on how much the steering wheel is turned, whether the car is skidding and how hard the driver is stomping on the gas. Drivers can switch between Tarmac, Gravel and Snow modes. Mitsubishi offers two trim levels: The Evolution GSR, with a five-speed manual transmission, and the Evolution MR, with a six-speed, twin-clutch automated manual. Exterior Mitsubishi says the Evolution's shark-like nose was inspired by the air intakes on fighter jets. The current Lancer's forward-leaning stance is already one of the more aggressive shapes among compact cars, and the Evolution looks even more so. The grille has a dark mesh insert, while 18-inch wheels frame four-piston Brembo front brakes. A rear spoiler is standard, and the optional extra-large spoiler is tall enough to hang shirts on to dry. The Evolution's hood, fenders, bumpers and roof are made of aluminum, which theoretically would lower the car's center of gravity. The MR includes an even more hunkered-down suspension, enhanced brakes for better cooling, unique 18-inch wheels and xenon headlights. Interior Heavily bolstered Recaro racing seats have leather/fabric upholstery, but otherwise the interior looks much like the regular Lancer's. Automatic climate control, power windows and locks, a six-speaker CD stereo and cruise control are standard. The Evolution MR adds audio controls on the steering wheel. Options include a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate stereo, navigation system and keyless access. Under the Hood Though output is up just 5 hp over the ninth-generation Evolution, Mitsubishi says the latest 2.0-liter four-cylinder has a host of other improvements, like an aluminum engine block — the old one was iron — and intake and exhaust valve timing, versus the previous intake-only timing. The 300 pounds-feet of torque now peaks at 4,400 rpm versus the old version's 289 pounds-feet at 3,500 rpm, but Mitsubishi says the torque curve is wider than before, with revised turbocharger dynamics yielding as much as 20 percent quicker response. The MR's twin-clutch automated manual works much like Audi's DSG gearbox, with the next gear at hand as soon as the previous gear is released. That should make for lightning-fast shifts, which can be performed automatically or with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The transmission offers three shift programs: Normal, Sport and S-Sport. Sport holds lower gears longer and shifts more quickly than Normal, while S-Sport optimizes performance for the racetrack. Safety Seven standard airbags include the required frontal devices, as well as a driver's knee airbag, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows. Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes and an electronic stability system are also standard. |

This Mitsubishi Colt Galant is a GTO from Japan
Fri, Sep 18 2015The letters GTO have been used by several automakers – each from different countries. Depending on where your automotive enthusiasm is centered, you might associate the name with Pontiac or with Ferrari. But those weren't the only ones to use those letters. So did Mitsubishi. In fact, the 3000GT (also known as the Dodge Stealth) that competed with the likes of the Toyota Supra and Nissan 300ZX back in the 1990s was sold as the GTO back home in Japan. But Mitsu didn't pull that name out of nowhere. It was merely the revival of an old nameplate. Back in the 1970s, Mitsubishi used those letters on a version of the Colt, of all things. And that's what Petrolicious has profiled in this latest video. This Seventies-era Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO GSR belongs to one Matt De Mangos, an enthusiast, collector, and consummate tinkerer out in California who fell in love with the vintage pocket rocket. Since the Colt Galant GTO was designed for the Japanese Domestic Market, few ever made it to other markets. So De Mangos imported one privately to the United States, and invested a lot of time into researching and restoring the vehicle. The result may not be the usual classic you'd expect to see an American hot-rodder restoring, but that's apparently just the way Matt likes it. Hear his story in the video above.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV arrives in UK with 'no' price premium
Thu, Apr 3 2014For UK buyers who are interested in a plug-in hybrid SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV just got a little bit sweeter. The reason is that the base model of the vehicle will be available with or without a plug for the same price at the base diesel model. "If it's not going to save people money, they won't buy it" - Mitsubishi UK's Lance Bradley According to Cars UK, the price for the Outlander PHEV will be GBP28,249 (about $47,000 US) after a government grant of GBP5,000. In other words, the plug-in SUV actually costs GBP33,249 ($55,000) but thanks to pro-EV regulations, buyers can choose the powertrain they want, not the one they can afford. The managing director of Mitsubishi UK, Lance Bradley, told BusinessCar that it just makes sense to price the two vehicles at the same level. "There are some clever cars in the market but they're all too expensive," he said. "There should be a clear cost benefit because if it's not going to save people money, they won't buy it. The Outlander PHEV has an all-electric range of 32 miles, a top speed of 75 miles per hour in EV mode and a towing capacity of over 3,000 pounds. The SUV invades Britain in May and is scheduled to arrive in the US in 2015. Mitsubishi Motors North America's Melvin Bautista told AutoblogGreen that the UK price equivalence doesn't mean anything for the US, and that the company hasn't even begun the pricing for the vehicle in the US. The way the vehicles are packaged in the UK is also be different than how things work in the US, so we can't read anything into the UK price. Another factor is that, at the time when the PHEV launches in the US, the standard gasoline version will be undergoing a light facelift, which will also be applied to the PHEV model. This isn't the first time an alternative-fuel powertrain vehicle has cost the same as the old-fashioned gas model. The 2013 Lincoln MKZ could be had with a 2.0-liter hybrid or a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder for the same price.
2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport models with leather seats recalled over airbag fears
Tue, 25 Feb 2014Mitsubishi is recalling 733 of its 2013 Outlander Sports that were fitted with leather seat covers due to problems with the seat-mounted airbags. Apparently, the wiring for the airbags may have been routed incorrectly when the seat covers were installed at the port.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration bulletin, the issue only really crops up if owners adjust the height of the seats. Naturally, if the seat wiring is damaged, the airbag may not deploy in the event of a side impact.
The affected vehicles were all manufactured between July 20, 2012 and May 29, 2013. There have been no reported injuries or accidents due to this issue. Mitsubishi, meanwhile, will begin notifying owners, who will need to report to their local dealer for free inspections or repairs. Take a look below for the bulletin from NHTSA.
