Mitsubishi to add new crossover to US lineup

With crossovers of all sizes enjoying immense popularity with consumers, Mitsubishi is making a grab for some of the action with a third CUV offering. The as-of-yet unnamed vehicle is set to slot in between the baby Outlander Sport and the full-size Outlander, CEO Osamu Masuko told Automotive News ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show. Aimed squarely at the crossover-crazy US and European markets, this new vehicle will likely enter production two years from now. That should mean an auto show debut at Paris or Los Angeles in 2016, or at some point in early 2017. The new vehicle would duke it out with the redesigned Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon. If it sounds like this new CUV would cannibalize some of its little brother's sales, you'd be right. To prevent this, Mitsu will tweak the sizes of the vehicles it currently offers. "The Outlander is growing in size, while the Outlander Sport is getting smaller, so it opens a space for the new SUV," Masuko told AN. "We need something to fit in between." Having a three-tiered CUV lineup might help Mitsubishi, which has enjoyed 26 percent sales growth through September this year. According to AN, over half of Mitsu's current sales come from the Outlander and Outlander Sport. Adding a third CUV would capitalize on a US market that's clamoring for light trucks and crossovers. Before the third model debuts, the next step for the brand will be the arrival of a plug-in hybrid Outlander. You can look for our review on that next year. Mitsubishi teases new compact crossover that could be called Eclipse

Does the world need another compact crossover? No, not really. But Mitsubishi could certainly use another vehicle in the hottest segment in America. And the Japanese automaker is about to show off a brand-new model at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show that will slot between the Outlander Sport and the larger Outlander. Rumors suggest that this new compact crossover might revive a well-known name from the past: Eclipse. While that's undeniably better than a random series of numbers or letters, or another riff on the Outlander moniker, Mitsubishi would surely alienate some of its hardcore fans by christening a CUV with the name of an old sport coupe. Here's hoping those rumors stay exactly that. Moving past the potentially controversial name, what we're looking at is a pretty conventional coupe-like two-box shape. The sloping roofline looks current, and the steeply raked rear glass adds a sporty flare. We've got a little over a month before we see the new 'ute in all its glory, and probably about a year before it's in US showrooms. Mitsubishi celebrates 30th anniversary in US with Outlander Sport Limited Edition

The hurrah of the last kind for the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is this Limited Edition that celebrates 30 years of Mitsubishi Motors in North America. Built in North America as well, the 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition gets numerous black trim pieces outside, such as the center bumper, side mirror housings, wheel arch trim and skirting and roof rails. It sits on special Argent wheels.
Open the doors and the darkness continues with available Dove Grey and Black leather seating, and black leather parking brake sleeve, all accented by aluminum brake and accelerator pedals. On this model the six-way power driver's seat is standard. The sole performance mod is a new balancer shaft that makes for quicker acceleration without any penalty in the mileage rating.
