2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport shows its new nose

You know, I always thought the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was kind of attractive. Really. But I'm not sure I can say the same about this refreshed, 2016 model. The big change is up front, where the re-schnozzed Sport now has a weird mix of colors and trims going on. There's chunky chrome trim with black in the middle of the face. In some colors, it almost looks like the car's missing a panel. Elsewhere, the 2016 Outlander Sport's enhancements are mostly positive. There's a new steering wheel, 6.1-inch infotainment display, new color choices, and some fresh 18-inch wheels. That's about it for updates, though. Things are the same as they ever were under the hood, with either a 2.0- or 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine powering the Sport, offering up 148 and 168 horsepower, respectively. So it's better equipped, but I wish it still looked as good as the pre-facelift model. Nevertheless, the Outlander Sport does well for Mitsubishi, and hopefully potential buyers won't be too put off by that unfortunate nose. 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander confirmed for New York debut

Mitsubishi is putting a lot of work into updating its lineup this year after strong sales growth in 2014. In addition to bringing the Concept GC-PHEV (pictured above) to the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the Japanese brand is already spilling the beans about its plans for the New York Auto Show. "All of our 2016 model year vehicles will be refreshed with our new brand identity, starting with the 2016 Outlander, which will make its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April," Mitsubishi Motors North America Executive Vice President Don Swearingen said at the Chicago show. The future Outlander has already been spied testing in Europe. However, the launch of the plug-in variant has reportedly been pushed back until some time around April 2016. In the meantime, the Mitsubishi is showing the Concept GC-PHEV from an earlier Tokyo Motor Show in the Windy City. The company promises the vehicle's chunky design suggests its future design language, which is rumored to preview a future Montero. Under the hood, the GC-PHEV has a supercharged V6 and plug-in hybrid making 335 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic gearbox with power going to all four wheels. The GC-PHEV also has some sci-fi features to go with its next-gen looks, including something called the Tactical Table. While the name sounds like a high-tech way to play board games, the system lets occupants share information from a smartphone with the vehicle and other passengers. The concept includes an augmented reality windshield and collision mitigating braking, as well. 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport models with leather seats recalled over airbag fears

Mitsubishi is recalling 733 of its 2013 Outlander Sports that were fitted with leather seat covers due to problems with the seat-mounted airbags. Apparently, the wiring for the airbags may have been routed incorrectly when the seat covers were installed at the port.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration bulletin, the issue only really crops up if owners adjust the height of the seats. Naturally, if the seat wiring is damaged, the airbag may not deploy in the event of a side impact.
The affected vehicles were all manufactured between July 20, 2012 and May 29, 2013. There have been no reported injuries or accidents due to this issue. Mitsubishi, meanwhile, will begin notifying owners, who will need to report to their local dealer for free inspections or repairs. Take a look below for the bulletin from NHTSA.
