1988 Mitsubishi Starion Esi-r Coupe 2-door 2.6l on 2040-cars
Salem, Oregon, United States
This car is a true survivor that is very good condition for its age. I have spent the last year getting this unique car back on the road. It is a West Coast car and is rust free. I have only driven the car 300 miles since it's completion. Here is a detailed list of what has been professionally done to this car: Professional engine rebuild: Original block was hot tanked, bored, and milled. New pistons were installed and the connecting rods were reconditioned. The balance shaft was deleted and new timing chain and guides were installed. The original crankshaft was reconditioned. A new mild cam was installed. The head is a new non-jet type that was polished and intake and exhaust matched. New valves, guides, and seals were installed. ARP head studs were used to install the new head. All new seals, gaskets, and bearings were installed. The oil pump was replaced with a new unit as was the water pump. New engine mounts were installed prior to the engine being installed in the car. A new 14G turbo was installed with a new down-pipe. New Venom injectors were installed. A new Centerforce stage 2 clutch disc and pressure plate were mated to a lightened flywheel and installed. I installed an aluminum radiator with a custom shroud and two high volume electric fans. The car has an aftermarket polished intake pipe with an aftermarket blow-off valve. Other new components include: a new alternator, all new belts and hoses, and battery. A Kenwood stereo was installed that includes HD radio and Bluetooth. New Alpine component speakers were installed in the doors and Alpine 3-way speakers were installed in the back. It also has a digital Alpine amplifier and is wired for a sub. The interior of the car is in amazing condition! The original carpet was removed and professionally cleaned and then reinstalled. I had the original seats recovered in black vinyl with perforated inserts to match the original covers. The dash does not have any cracks. The center console armrest is intact and the pad is without defects. The automatic seatbelts work well. Both power windows roll up and down smoothly. The automatic locks work. All gauges and light work as they should. The digital climate control works. The car has been repainted some time ago but the paint is in good shape. It does have some scratches and the front air dam is damaged. The body is straight and is rust free. This car is for sale locally and this auction can be terminated by the seller at any time. |

2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR
Wed, 03 Apr 2013Quick Corners And Long Goodbyes
Editor's Note: While driving the Mitsubishi Evolution in the slush and snow of a Michigan winter is a fine enterprise, photographing it in such conditions is usually not fruitful. That's why you'll notice a slight disparity between our wintry text and sunny, California-based photographs of the subject car. Rest assured, both the review vehicle and the photo car are of the same basic Evo GSR flavor.
It was a dreary, gray, barely sufferable winter morning in Ann Arbor, MI. Temperatures hovering just over 30 degrees allowed for snow or rain or some combination thereof at a moment's notice, and the thickly clouded sky hinted at dark secrets while promising nothing. I've never been a rally driver but I couldn't help but feel that this murky, imprecise day was good winter rally weather. I'll admit: I don't usually wake up and look out the window to judge which kind of racing would be best just then, but the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR delivered to my house the day before was coloring the mood of the hour; most of my thoughts ran to where I was going to drive it, when, and how fast.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV now for real due in 'late summer, early fall'
Fri, Apr 1 2016Any day now, American plug-in vehicle shoppers will be able to actually buy a plug-in hybrid SUV. Europeans and Japanese buyers have had this option for many years, since the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV went on sale in those markets in 2013. There have been plenty of diversions in the route that is bringing the big PHEV to our shores, but it's looking like, "late summer, early fall," is when thing will for real happen. 10-20 percent of total Outlander sales would be "a very good number." That's the message from Don Swearingen, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), who we spoke to at the New York Auto Show where the PHEV made its debut appearance. Swearingen said that the dealers are as ready as the customers. "As we talked to our dealer council, they are all very interested in this product," he said. "[Range anxiety was] eliminated with this vehicle, and because of that, I think we are going to have some pretty good response." Swearingen didn't put a specific number to that claim, but said that 10-20 percent of total Outlander sales (which currently sit at around 2,000 a month) would be "a very good number." Previously, Mitsubishi representatives said they expected to sell 4,000 PHEV units in the first year. As we've documented over the years, there were a number of reasons for why the US didn't get the first batch of Outlander PHEVs. One of the big ones was that the PHEV was selling like gangbusters elsewhere. It's the best-selling PHEV in all of Europe, for example, and was the fourth-best-selling plug-in vehicle anywhere in February 2016. And Mitsubishi just couldn't make enough of them. Swearingen said the main bottleneck for this was the battery pack supplier Lithium Energy Japan, which didn't have the capacity to make more than it did. So, instead of leaving three markets without enough supply, Mitsubishi decided to leave one in the lurch and focus on the other two. Plus, since the Outlander PHEV will be based on the 2017 gas-powered Outlander, it will come with numerous safety enhancements as well as the 100+ improvements that the 2016 Outlander got compared to the 2015. In other words, all the pieces are all coming together. The Outlander PHEV is "the best of both worlds." - Francine Harsini At least, that's what Francine Harsini, MMNA's senior director of marketing, said. The final important part are the customers, and Harsini said that Mitsubishi will be a big national marketing push. The general theme?
Japan may aid carmakers facing U.S. tariff threat
Wed, Sep 12 2018TOKYO — Japan is considering giving carmakers fiscal support including tax breaks to offset the impact from trade frictions with the United States and a sales-tax hike planned for next year, government sources told Reuters on Wednesday. Going into a second round of trade talks with the United States on Sept. 21, Japan is hoping to avert steep tariffs on its car exports and fend off U.S. demands for a bilateral free trade agreement that could put it under pressure to open politically sensitive markets, like agriculture. "If the trade talks pile pressure on Japan's car exports, we would need to consider measures to support the auto industry," a ruling party official said on condition of anonymity because of sensitivity of the matter. The auto industry accounts for about 20 percent of Japan's overall output and around 60-70 percent of the country's trade surplus with the United States, making it vulnerable to U.S. action against Japanese exports. Japan's biggest automakers and components suppliers fear they could take a significant hit if Washington follows through on proposals to hike tariffs on autos and auto parts to 25 percent. Policymakers also worry that an increase in the sales tax from 8 percent to 10 percent planned for October 2019, could cause a slump in sales of big-ticket items such as cars and home. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has twice postponed the tax hike after the last increase from 5 percent in 2014 dealt a blow to private consumption, which accounts for about 60 percent of the economy. To prevent a pullback in demand after the tax hike, the government may consider large fiscal spending later when it draws up its budget for next year, government sources said. "One option may be to greatly reduce or abolish the automobile purchase tax," one of the government sources said. The government is also considering cuts in the automobile tax and automobile weight tax to help car buyers, the source added.
