This vehicle was purchased in 2012 through eBay when it had 18,000 miles on it. That seller apparently found and bought it at a police auction earlier the same year. The story was that it had sat in impound/storage for over 24 years after the vehicle was involved in a drug bust and subsequent car chase - thus the low mileage. The short story is that since I bought it, the engine was torn down to the block and rebuilt with new rings, pistons, bearings, and even a new head. Also replaced water pump, gas pump, radiator, heater core, turbo, computer, coil, and battery.
The leather interior is pristine as is the dash and carpet. All gauges work, even the original cassette player. The exterior is immaculate with a beautiful gloss black paint and NO rust either on the body or the frame. The rims are original but do show their 28 years of age. I would guess that the tires have about 12,000 miles on them. This car is 99.9% stock with the only known after market item being the coil. All features/options work except the rear wiper - I just never got around to dealing with it. Since the rebuild, I've taken it on two road trips and besides being faster than a raped ape, it drives and handles like new. It has been appraised by a certified, professional appraiser at over $14,000. You will NOT find a Starion that looks nicer, is more solid, has less miles AND drives better than this stock, pristine vehicle. I would drive it anywhere, anytime across country OR it is clean enough AS IS to go right to car shows and be considered the pride of the show. ** I have the original eBay listing that I bought this vehicle from as well as the appraisal, receipts for all stated work, plus other paperwork documented the history and mileage of this vehicle for any SERIOUS buyer ** |

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV US launch delayed over battery shortage
Mon, 30 Dec 2013Mitsubishi resumed full-scale battery production in August after a five-month shutdown due to a safety investigation. Supplier Lithium Energy Japan has been delivering 4,000 battery packs each month since September, but that's apparently still not enough to fill the overseas inventory pipeline for the Outlander PHEV and i subcompact EV while launching the Outlander PHEV here in the US. So instead of the previous tentative launch date of Fall 2014, the plug-in hybrid's Stateside on-sale date has been pushed back until 2015.
That's according to Automotive News, which also notes that Mitsubishi has sold 11,300 plug-in Outlanders this year, though that number reflects the production stoppage over the battery issues. As of April, battery supplier LEJ will be able to supply 5,000 packs per month just for the Outlander, but company president Osamu Masuko has gone on record saying that production will have to rise above that in order to make the US launch.
Every Mitsubishi dealer (and hopefully a fair number of consumers) will be looking forward to a crossover that, for the moment, doesn't really have natural rivals. The Outlander PHEV can drive 32 miles on electricity alone, has a top speed of 75 miles per hour in EV mode and offers all-wheel drive with a towing capacity of over 3,000 pounds. The model should get an impressive MPGe rating from the EPA when it finally arrives and it figures to be a bellwether for the plug-in Outlander Sport and Pajero utility vehicles that are expected to arrive after it. Hopefully 2015 will be its year.
Mitsubishi NA gets new president and CEO
Thu, 06 Feb 2014Last week, we told you that Mitsubishi will be getting a new global president, with Osamu Masuko stepping aside in favor of Tesuro Aikawa. The executive changes at the Japanese automaker are hitting closer to home, now, with official word that Mitsubishi Motors North America is getting a new president and CEO, as well. Effective March 1, Ryujiro Kobashi will take over for Yoichi Yokozawa, 49, who has been in charge since April of 2011. Yokozawa is headed back to Japan, where he will assume a spot in the company's corporate planning offices.
Kobashi, 53, has been with Mitsubishi since 1983 when he was fresh out of college. Previous to taking the top job in North America, he was installed as corporate general manager of the NA office at Mitsubishi's headquarters in Japan, where he coordinated regional operations for the US, Canada and Mexico. Before that, he held posts in planning, marketing, advertising and public relations for the company.
Kobashi takes over the company's North American operations at a pivotal time, when the region is finally showing signs of life after a prolonged period of stagnation. As Automotive News notes, Mitsubishi only sold 62,227 vehicles in the US in 2013, but that figure still represents an eight-percent increase. Its crossovers, the new-for-2014 Outlander and the two-year-old Outlander Sport have been selling relatively well, and the affordable Mirage subcompact is a new arrival at dealers.
Mitsubishi is killing the Lancer this summer
Fri, Jan 6 2017The small sedan segment is going to get a little smaller this summer. At a Mitsubishi event last night, the company discussed its new focus on the crossover market. It left us wondering where this leaves the future of Mitsubishi sedans. We asked executive vice president and COO of Mitsubishi's North American division Don Swearingen about this, and he said the Mirage G4 will remain on the market to handle some sedan demand, but that Lancer production will end this August. Swearingen did explain that there will probably be leftover stock for a few months after the end of production, but that the car would effectively be gone this summer with 2017 its final model year. He said the sedan market is shrinking and the company needs to make sure any new product it develops is profitable, which is why Mitsubishi continues to shift its focus to the ever-growing crossover market and there are no current plans for a new Lancer. It should also be noted that the current Lancer was introduced a decade ago and wasn't terribly competitive to begin with. Still, we'll miss the Lancer line, even if it was only for the hope that we'd see another Lancer Evolution someday. Related Video:
