1984 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Pickup Truck 2.3 Diesel 5 speed manual 2wd.
Great condition, small surface rust on hood. Body is rust free and very solid, never been damaged and very straight, the turbo was removed at one point in its life. All lights & electrics work as they should, even the original radio works, although 1 speaker is missing. Truck engine was broken in after rebuild and then the injection pump stopped working. It was rebuilt after 3 attempts at repairing it and now its not getting fuel to the engine so the truck won't start, I've been trying to get to it for 6 months now and its just turned into one of those things that I don't have time to get around to looking at. I heard a spring 'pop' when I put the last bolt in the injection pump, sounded like a spring came unseated inside the pump but I've lost all heart in fixing it. Would make a very very simple fix to someone whos willing. Its just sitting in my shed collecting dust. Things I've done in the past 6 months and the truck has done 0 miles since: New rods ($300) New rod bearings ($40) New piston rings ($125) New main bearings ($45) New complete engine gasket kit ($175) Incl: -New main seal -New rear seal -New head gasket -New valve stem oil seals New clutch kit ($110) Rebuilt oil pump ($130) Rebuilt injection pump ($400) New head rotor ($150) Resized crank ($240) Sonically cleaned valves ($60) New timing belt ($30) New oil belt ($15) New fan & AC belts ($50) Removed & inspected transmission - all is 100% Filled with fully synthetic oil ($40) Removed & inspected differential - all is 100% Filled with fully synthetic oil ($35) New vacuum pump ($300) New brake master cylinder ($130) New clutch master cylinder ($50) 1 New injector ($400) New rubber fuel lines ($60) I may have forgotten a few things but including miscellaneous odds & ends I've spend over $3,000 just on parts. I wish I had some more time to get everything 100% and drive this truck for the next 30 years. I got 52mpg on long runs and high 40s around town easily. I have receipts and pictures of the whole rebuild from top to bottom. Very rare wee truck and very economical. Genuinely gutted I have to sell it. Some pics are included, I have more. The pic of the engine is before I put the timing belt on, its on at the moment. |

Nissan's purchase of Mitsubishi is officially official
Thu, Oct 20 2016After the company's announcement in May, the Nissan's purchase of a 34 percent stake in Mitsubishi is now official. The deal cost Nissan $2.3 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal, and brings Mitsubishi into the Nissan-Renault Alliance. The company explained that this new partnership will manifest itself in shared vehicle platforms and technology, joint purchasing, and shared manufacturing. Nissan also said that this purchase will make the company one of the three largest companies by volume in the world. Nissan also emphasized that Mitsubishi will very much be a partner in the current alliance with Renault. In addition, Carlos Ghosn, CEO of both Nissan and Renault, has been nominated to be the new chairman of the Mitsubishi board. With Ghosn at the head of the board, current Mitsubishi president and CEO, Osamu Masuko, will remain in his positions but Nissan's current chief competitive officer will join Masuko as co-chief executive officer at Mitsubishi. With these companies now working together, we'll probably start seeing more commonality between Nissan and Mitsubishi products here in the States. It would also be a great opportunity to get some of Mitsubishi's cooler products here. Perhaps Mitsubishi and Nissan will take our hint about the Delica. This article has been revised to clarify that Nissan Motors purchased the stake in Mitsubishi, not the Nissan-Renault Alliance, and to add the value of the purchase. Mitsubishi Motors halts some SUV sales in Japan as MPG scandal grows
Tue, Aug 30 2016Mitsubishi's fuel-economy scandal is going from bad to worse. First, the Japanese automaker claimed it lied about the fuel economy for a few kei cars, then it claimed fuel economy tests for as far back as 1991 could reveal mile-per-gallon figures that were tampered with. In May the automaker, admitted that every single vehicle it's sold in Japan could be affected by the fuel-economy scandal. Now, the Japanese automaker revealed that more of its vehicles were involved in the fuel-economy cheating scandal – and one of them is sold in the US. After completing its investigation into the automaker's fuel-economy scandal, Japan's Transport Ministry found that Mitsubishi overstated the fuel economy for eight more vehicles in marketing brochures, one of which is sold as the Outlander Sport in the US, reports Automotive News. The Transport Ministry ordered Mitsubishi to stop domestic sales of the models, which include the Pajero, Outlander, and RVR SUV (known as the Outlander Sport in the US). The latest finding adds to four kei cars that were previously noted for having overstated fuel economy figures earlier this year. Japan's sixth-largest automaker is having a hard time recuperating since the scandal broke earlier this April. The initial scandal led to the automaker suspending its sales, which caused a large dip in the automaker's market value. The scandal required Mitsubishi to seek financial assistance from Nissan, which agreed to buy a controlling 34-percent stake for $2.2 billion. Investigators hired by Mitsubishi to look into the automaker's overstated fuel economy figures revealed the company's "corporate culture" as the issue. More specifically, the investigators founds the company's pressure to improve fuel-efficiency figures, a lack of unity between divisions, and an unwillingness to accept fuel economy shortfalls as the reason for falsifying its vehicles' mpg figures. Mitsubishi is expected to compensate Japanese owners for the overstated fuel economy figures, which would result in a massive loss for the automaker. The company is expected to post a net loss of roughly $1.4 billion this year, pushing Mitsubishi into the red for the first time in approximately eight years. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV's US debut pushed back yet again [UPDATE]
Wed, Dec 30 2015UPDATE: The story's been updated to include a response from Mitsubishi. Better late than never, the saying goes, and when it comes to the US debut of the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, the key words are "better" and "late." The crossover's debut in the US has already been the subject of a number of delays, and it is will once again having its stateside debut pushed back by a few months, according to Green Car Reports. Instead of a springtime arrival, we're now looking at late summer. We already know that the first US Outlander is an updated model compared to the one currently sold in Europe and Japan, but the Japanese automaker is apparently still tweaking the model to make it better suited for US driving. That means an improved interior and better sound insulation for what will be the 2017 model-year Outlander PHEV, and will likely involve better performance for both drivetrain power and fuel efficiency. "We decided to bring in the Outlander PHEV along with the 2017 Outlander launch," Mitsubishi spokesman Alex Fedorak wrote in an e-mail to Autoblog. "Doing so will allow us to better equip the vehicle for the US market." We doubt major changes are in store, so it still looks like the plug-in Outlander will pair a 2.0-liter gas engine with two electric motors. The crossover PHEV can go about 32 miles on electricity alone, at least, it can on the more lenient European driving cycle. The Outlander PHEV was first slated for a 2014 US debut, but that was pushed back to 2015 because of a battery shortage. More recently, Mitsubishi said this past January that the US debut would take place in April 2016. Overseas, the model continues to make headway when it comes to global market share of plug-in vehicles. Through November, Mitsubishi moved more than 36,000 units of the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid worldwide. That puts it third among plug-in vehicles, trailing only the sales of the Tesla Model S and the Nissan Leaf electric vehicles, according to EV Sales.
