The Good:
This is a nice working example of a rare, hard to find car. The first hardtop convertible in the United States since the Ford Fairlane. A twin turbo V6 pushing out 320 hp with a six speed manual transmission, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, tunable suspension and anti lock brakes. This car is pretty much as close as you can get to exotic car performance without having to shell out $100,000. There are a few cosmetic defects, detailed below, but otherwise it is mechanically sound. It starts, stops, and runs as expected. The air conditioning cools, and the heater heats. All power accessories work, windows, locks, seats, etc. All glass is clear without defect. The rear defroster defrosts. There are no fluid leaks. Best of all, the top works! Everything is factory standard, including the stereo. There have been no modifications. The car still has the original paint. I have kept it in a temperature controlled garage as long as I have owned it. The mileage is very low for the year, which should help for future collectability. I purchased the car in 2003 with 63,000 miles on it, so I have put 14,000 on it in the last 11 years. I know it sounds corny but I pretty much only drove it in the summer or on sunny days. I have just replaced the tires in the last two weeks so they have less than 100 miles on them.

The Bad:
While the car operates well, there are a few issues, some of which are noted issues with the car in general. Typical issues with the 3000GT in general are:
1) The rear view mirror is cloudy, and a little loose. This has never bothered me enough to do anything about it.
2) There is some clear coat peeling the roof.

3) The shifter boot vinyl is peeling. This is easily replaced for around $40 I just hadn't gotten around to it.

Issues with this car specifically:
1) The power antenna will not retract into the body
2) There is a small dent in the hood that occurred while I had it parked at work. The paint is undamaged so you should be able to pop it back out or use one of those paintless dent removal techniques.
3) The driver's seat has a split seam shown in the pictures. It is on the seam, so it should be fairly easy to fix.
4) There is some damage to the rear bumper. Rather than slathering it with bondo and trying to cover it up I elected to purchase a replacement bumper. I haven't gotten to installing it, and at this point I don't want to. So it will be included in the sale of the car for the new owner install at their leisure.

5) The rubber seals for the windows are almost 20 years old, so they have hardened a little bit in their old age, so I would not recommend running it through a car wash. Standard driving in rainy weather, or short term parking outdoors are not much of a problem but I would recommend keeping it in a garage. I have heard of products you can use that will soften up the rubber, but have yet to try anything.

6) The clip that holds the driver side visor in place has broken. The visor still stays in place without the clip.
6) There are miscellaneous other little nicks and scrapes that would not be uncommon on a 19 year old car, most of which could be buffed out. Just trying to say that this is not showroom condition if that is what you are expecting.

The Beautiful:
This car is a blast to drive! I have had people photograph me and the car in traffic.  It may not be the fastest car on the road, but with 320 hp it is faster than most, The AWD means it corners extremely well, and the all wheel steering means that changing lanes at speed is more like stepping sideways than actually turning. The tunable suspension lets you stiffen the suspension with the push of a button increasing the handling performance of the car.  Lowering or raising the top is an instant attention getter, or conversation starter if you're looking for one. It is just heavenly to drive around with the top down on a nice, sunny day. I always feel like I am on vacation, even if I am just driving to or from work. It's a great stress reliever! The stereo is equipped with an AUX input, something almost unheard of in the 90s, so an IPod can be plugged in.

Factor in the low production run (Only 850 VR-4 spyders ever made) and the scarcity of running examples, and this car is poised to be a future hot collectible.

The Details

The car is being sold as is, with no warranty or any other guarantee. I would prefer a local buyer, or at least meeting the buyer here to pick it up, but I am open to shipping out of state as well. Shipping must be arranged and paid for by the buyer. A deposit of $1000 must be made by PayPal within three days of purchase, with the remainder due by cashiers check or cash within seven days, unless other arrangements are made and agreed upon. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on the vehicle before making a purchasing decision.

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross arrives in the U.S., pricing starts at $24,290

Thu, Feb 22 2018

The first shipment of the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has arrived in the United States. Mitsubishi's new all-wheel drive compact crossover will go on sale in showrooms in early March with a starting price of $24,290, including a destination charge of $995. The Eclipse Cross debuted last year at the Geneva Motor Show with design cues borrowed from the XR-PHEV II Concept from 2015. The exterior design, which Mitsubishi says is inspired by a runner in the "Get set" position, includes a forward-raked rear window, wedge profile and deep side crease. Its starting price slots it just below competitors like the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson, and it will come in four trim levels. Those include the base ES, which is the only trim available with front-wheel drive. Adding all-wheel drive, or S-AWC in Mitsubishi speak, adds only $600 to the base price. The LE S-AWC trim starts at $25,890 and the range-topping SE S-AWC starts at $27,390, though neither are eligible for options, so those are pretty much the prices customers will be dealing with. All trim levels are powered by a direct-injection turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four that makes 152 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The S-AWC acronym would stand for Super All-Wheel Control, Mitsubishi's system that manages torque supplied to each wheel for added straight-line stability and cornering performance. It offers three selectable driving modes — auto, snow and gravel — to enhance performance. Safety technology includes blind-spot warning and lane-change assist, forward collision mitigation and lane-departure warning, plus a system that automatically adjusts headlight brightness to the conditions. Interior features include an available 7-inch infotainment display with a touchpad controller, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus voice recognition via Google Assistant or Siri. There's also a full-color LCD head-up display available. A dual-pane sunroof and heated rear seats are some of the other niceties. The Eclipse Cross joins the brand's stable of crossovers, the Outlander and slightly smaller Outlander Sport, which helped Mitsubishi to a banner year in 2017, selling more than 100,000 vehicles for the first time in a decade. It also joins the Outlander PHEV, also new for 2018. Related Video:

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has a trunk for your junk

Thu, Mar 24 2016

If you're in the market for an inexpensive new car and it absolutely must be a sedan, then the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is both of those things. The tiny four-door isn't beautiful, but the vehicle offers buyers optional high-tech amenities like smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The little guy debuts at the New York Auto Show and arrives at dealers this spring. The Mirage G4 shares much of its styling with the hatchback but grafts a trunk onto the rear. The stubby front and back make the sedan look charmingly bulbous. There's just something cute about its short, rounded shape. The G4 also uses the hatchback's powertrain. A 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque spins the front wheels. Customers can choose between a five-speed manual or a CVT, Mitsubishi spokesperson Alex Fedorak tells Autoblog. The update for 2017 Mirage five-door also just benefited from larger brakes and a retuned suspension. Look for live photos of the Mirage G4 from the New York Auto Show soon. We're curious to see how the pudgy sedan looks in the real world. (MMNA) today unveiled the all-new 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. A sibling to the well-established and popular Mirage hatchback, the all-new Mirage G4 brings consumers a fresh dose of clean style, environmental consciousness, agility, connectivity, affordability and value. The Mirage G4 goes on sale this spring at Mitsubishi showrooms across the country. "A few years ago we entered the subcompact segment with the Mirage hatchback and its popularity with consumers has grown every year with its combination of top fuel economy, attractive pricing and one of the industry's best new car warranties. The new Mirage G4 repeats that value equation in a four-door sedan package," said MMNA executive vice president, Don Swearingen.

2014 Pikes Peak Hill Climb: Final Practice Day 4 and pre-race notes

Sun, 29 Jun 2014

The running order has been established for the 92nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for all classes and everyone's had all the practice they're going to get. On Sunday, June 29, the 14,110-foot-high mountain will ask each of them, "Who wants some?" Unlike previous years, while the bikes will run according to class, the cars will run according to their qualifying times set on the bottom section of the course, regardless of division, the fastest guys going first.
That puts Romain Dumas at the head of the 67 car entries, having set a time of 3:37.525 in his Norma M20 RD in the Unlimited Class, but the next Unlimited entry doesn't appear until sixth, Piero Nappi in his Picchio P4 pp with a time of 4:03.357. In between them, the two Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution IIIs start second and third in the Electric Modified class, that first one driven by Greg Tracy 11 seconds behind Dumas. Then comes Monster Tajima is his E-Runner Pikes Peak Special, then Paul Dallenbach leading the Open Wheel class, four positions ahead of the next Open Wheel competitor.
Leaders in the other classes: Michael Skeen driving a Nissan GT-R in the Open class in seventh, 12 positions ahead of the next class entrant; Jeff Zwart in eighth, driving a Porsche 911, will be the first in Time Attack 1, his competition starting right behind him; Robert Prillka in 21st is the first Time Attack 2 entry in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, three positions ahead of the next entry; in 23rd is Christopher Lennon in his 1973 Porsche 911 in the Vintage class, the next Vintage entry in 37th; the first Exhibition entrant is Donald Huffman in a Radical RXC in 50th, four positions ahead of the next in-class competition; and representing for Electric Production is Roy Richards in a Honda Fit EV.
