Thanks for looking at the listing for my 1993 Mitsubishi VR4.  I was the second owner of this car and it's been in my possession since 1996.  This was a fantastic car and up until the last few years gave me almost no problems.  Unfortunately she is twenty years old and has spent most of the last twelve years outside.  Additionally, she's been driven very little in the last year and a half which always causes some problems.  She's complete and not in terrible shape but she does need work.  I'm going to try to list everything in detail that she needs so it's going to seem like a laundry list of problems.

Mechanical issues:
The single biggest issue she has is that when running the engine won't hold a consistent idle.  The engine starts well and runs just fine but after a few minutes it begins to surge.  The idle will rev from 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm or so continuously.  Occasionally she will hold idle but a bit too fast.  The car can be driven as is but I wouldn't say she's fit for a long drive.  Looking around on the internet the most likely culprit is one or several bad capacitors in the main computer.  You could either replace the computer or if you're handy with a soldering iron, replace the bad capacitors.
The car's active suspension defaults to performance almost as soon as the car is started.  After that the suspension light flashes.  Again, if you read up on VR4s this is far from an uncommon problem.  Normally it means a short in one of the shock towers.
The anti-lock brake light has been coming on since about 1998.  I've had three different dealers and two mechanics look at it and no one could find the issue.  I've tested it on a snowy road and the anti-lock seemed to work.  Bad sensor perhaps?  Ghost maybe?
The engine smokes a little.  However, after switching to a slightly thicker oil the issue mostly cleared up.  I know that's not a proper fix but it told me that the issue wasn't desperate but rather annoying.
The timing belt and spark plugs have been recently replaced.

Interior:
Twenty years of sun has done a number on the interior.  As you can see from the photos the driver's side seat cover is totally destroyed.  The power functions as well as the lumbar adjustment still work though.
The passenger side and rear seats are complete but in only fair condition.  The back seats need some additional cleaning but really look pretty decent.
The headliner is probably fine but does need a cleaning.  There are no rips or sags in it.
The carpet certainly needs to be cleaned but there are no major issues except for the black residue from the floormats.  A good steam cleaning would probably take care of most of it.
The door panels are complete and I don't believe there are any rips or tears but the vinyl has lifted in the center of the arm areas.  An upholstery shop might be able to fix that with replacing the whole thing.  The power locks and windows work though the locks are a little sticky.  Some lubricant may take care of it.  The interior weatherstripping is not in great shape but is present.
All of the instruments work well and are clear and clean looking.  The glass instrument faces are in decent shape and would probably only need a polish to get them in shape.
The radio is original in nice shape and works well.
The air conditioning works well but it isn't quite as cold as it once was.  It still gets cold but a top off of refrigerant would probably get it back to the arctic blast it was when new.
The glove box is intact and looks fine but it does fit somewhat loosely.
The console lid is in nice shape with no rips.
The cigarette lighter is there but no longer works.  The electrical lead seems to have come loose and I never got around to digging in the console for it.
All the seat belts are present and work well.
The interior lights all work.
The trunk area is in good shape except for the retractable sunshade.  It's there and it retracts but it's badly sun damaged.
The dash is cracked in several places from the sun and the defroster vents are cracked and broken.  That's pretty standard though.

Exterior.

The body is complete and in pretty nice shape but the paint is faded and has some chips.  The passenger side rear quarter has several door dings.  I tried to get a photo of them but they just wouldn't show up.
The paint on the spoiler and the mirror has faded.  Some compounding would probably help the whole car but it really probably just needs a fresh coat of paint.
The mirrors are in good shape and the power functions work well.
The active Aero both front and rear work well.  the rear does stick sometimes but that may be due to the car sitting so much.
The radio Antenna is broken.  It is still connected to the radio but it does not retract.
The windshield wipers function well but the arms look awful.  They could be stripped and repainted or just replaced outright.
Both door handles and key locks work well.

I've attached lots of pictures but if there is something specific you'd like to see just let me know and I'll try to get a picture of it.

France tries to dodge blame for blowing up FCA-Renault merger deal

Thu, Jun 6 2019

PARIS — France sought to fend off a hail of criticism on Thursday after it was blamed for scuppering a $35 billion-plus merger between carmakers Fiat-Chrysler and Renault only 10 days after it was officially announced. Shares in Italian-American FCA and France's Renault fell sharply in early trading after FCA pulled out of talks, saying "the political conditions in France do not currently exist for such a combination to proceed successfully." French finance minister Bruno Le Maire said the government, which has a 15% stake in Renault, had engaged constructively, but had not been prepared to back a deal without the endorsement of Renault's current alliance partner Nissan. Nissan had said it would abstain at a Renault board meeting to vote on the merger proposal. However, a source close to FCA played down the significance of Nissan's stance in the discussions, believing French President Emmanuel Macron was looking for a way out of the deal after coming under pressure at home. Context The FCA-Renault talks were conducted against the backdrop of a French public outcry over 1,044 layoffs at a General Electric factory. The U.S. company had promised to safeguard jobs there when it acquired France's Alstom in 2015. The collapse of the deal, which would have created the world's third-biggest carmaker behind Japan's Toyota and Germany's Volkswagen, revives questions about how both FCA and Renault will meet the challenges of costly investments in electric and self-driving cars on their own. The merger had aimed to achieve 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) in annual synergies, with FCA gaining access to Renault's and Nissan's superior electric drive technology and the French firm getting a share of FCA's lucrative Jeep and Ram brands. FCA has long been looking for a merger partner, and some analysts say its search for a deal is becoming more urgent as it is ill-prepared for tougher new regulations on emissions. It previously held unsuccessful talks with Peugeot maker PSA Group, in which the French state also owns a stake. French budget minister Gerald Darmanin said the door should not be closed on the possibility of a deal with Renault, adding Paris would be happy to re-examine any new proposal from FCA. "Talks could resume at some time in the future," he told FranceInfo radio.

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi pool $200 million to invest in tech startups

Fri, Jan 5 2018

PARIS — The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance is setting up a $200 million mobility tech fund, three sources said, in the latest move by major carmakers to adapt to rapid industry change by investing in startups through their own venture capital arms. The fund, due to be unveiled by Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn at the CES tech industry show in Las Vegas next Tuesday, will be 40 percent financed by Renault, 40 percent by Nissan and 20 percent by Mitsubishi. "It will allow us to move faster on acquisitions ahead of our competition," one of the alliance sources told Reuters. Frederique Le Greves, a spokeswoman for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, declined to comment. The traditional auto industry model based on individual ownership is threatened by pay-per-use services such as Uber, as well as ride- and car-sharing platforms, a challenge heightened by parallel shifts towards electrified and self-driving cars. Wary carmakers are struggling to embrace changes and technologies that some of their executives are only beginning to grasp. To accelerate the process, many are investing directly in the new services — and gaining access to intellectual property — via their own corporate venture capital (CVC) funds. BMW has purchased stakes in a plethora of ride-sharing, smart-charging and autonomous vehicle software firms through its 500 million euro ($600 million) iVentures fund, the biggest such in-house facility belonging to a carmaker. Among others that have been increasingly active are General Motors' GM Ventures, with $240 million, and Peugeot-maker PSA Group's 100 million-euro investment arm. CVC funds, a familiar feature of innovative sectors such as tech and pharmaceuticals, have become more commonplace among carmakers since the 2008-9 financial crisis. They let companies skip some of the formalities otherwise required for new investments, and pounce more swiftly on promising startups. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi venture will also obviate the current need to thrash out the ownership split for each new alliance acquisition. It represents a further step in the integration of the carmakers as they pursue 10 billion euros in annual synergies by 2022. France's Renault holds a 43.4 percent stake in Nissan, which in turn controls Mitsubishi. Ghosn heads Renault and chairs all three.

Mitsubishi struggling to sell doomed plant due to union workers

Sat, Oct 3 2015

Mitsubishi is about to end vehicle production in the US, but the company is having serious problems finding a buyer for its Normal, IL, factory that currently assembles the Outlander Sport. A major sticking point, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal, is the plant's workforce of over 900 United Auto Workers members. The automaker has been trying to find another company to take over the site for months and has set November as the point to stop manufacturing there. The Normal, IL, factory is unique because it's the only plant in the country that's run by a Japanese automaker with a UAW-represented workforce, after starting as a joint venture with Chrysler. That makes Ford, General Motors, and FCA the preferred buyers because they could conceivably take over the union contract. However, the Blue Oval and the General likely aren't interested. According to plant officials speaking to The Wall Street Journal, FCA and some unnamed car companies are potential buyers, but there's absolutely nothing final, yet. Proponents argue that buying the location is cheaper than building a new one. Making matters harder is that the UAW and Mitsubishi are currently negotiating a new union contract, and the factory's next owner might have to take over the deal, according to the WSJ. The workers were ready to vote whether to strike recently, but that was averted when an announcement on the local's webpage said a tentative agreement was expected Sunday. Of course, the Big Three have been experiencing their own, similar issues with crafting deals, too. Related Video:
