1995 Mitsubishi 3000gt Vr-4 – Mechanics Only on 2040-cars
Mountain View, California, United States
NOTE: Before reading further please note that this vehicle will
not pass smog in its current condition and the tags expired on the
last day of August. This vehicle is being sold as is. Details below.
Up for sale is a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. The vehicle is moded to 400+ hp. She’s in great shape except for the issues noted below. Top of the line for that year. Twin-Turbo (320hp stock), All-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, GETRAG 446 manual transmission, Active Aero package (see photos), leather interior and Infinity sound system with 6 disc CD changer. All four tires have greater than 75% tread and the wheels are still very clean. Title in hand. The body of the vehicle is free major dents or damage but she does have a couple of door dings, minor scratches and small bruises here and there – generally though she looks great (see photos). Interior is tan and the carpet is dirty but I used to own a 92 3000GT SL with black leather interior. The SL broke down on me years back but I removed the interior from it hoping to one day put it into this one, never got a chance but I still have the interior. It will be included if you want it to give her a black interior to go with the black exterior. CarFax is available and shows no prior accidents. Although, the rear bumper was red and painted over black at one point. It was like that when I bought it and I don’t know why that was done, the previous owner did not know why it was like that either. The upgrades to the car are: - HKS Double-Mushroom Air Filter - HKS Blow-off Valve - HKS Exhaust - HKS 60MM Peak Hold Boost Meter in the cockpit - HKS EVC (Electronic Valve Controller) a.k.a. Boost Controller - A’PEXi S-AFC II Air Flow/Fuel Converter - A’PEXi Turbo Timer - Denso Iridium IK24 Spark Plugs x6 Installation and user’s guide for the modifications will be provided. Also equipped with a Python Alarm system. Now for the issue. Two months ago I damaged piston number four and one of the two exhaust valves during a standing-start. The piston is cracked and the valve is bent. Due to the extra rich gases flowing through the EGR valve, it too has failed as indicated by the “Check Engine” light. I used an OBD to check it. The code was ‘43’ for an EGR valve flow error. Also, she has an oil leak coming from the oil pan gasket. The passenger side window does not come down. I disconnected the window control switch because, as I found out, one bushing in the window control motor had failed. I fixed it, I think, but disconnected the switch because I didn’t want to deal with taking the door panel off to fix it again. I have another window control motor and entire rail as a replacement. It will be included. The photos show that the front aero dam is torn, I am including a new replacement for it. The car still runs and in idle you cannot tell that one of the pistons is damaged. But upon accelerating or putting a load on the engine she will sputter. She can be driven around but not far and don’t expect to go fast, although she will get up to freeway speed in time. Both turbos are fully functional but the front turbo will not fully spool up, this because of the damaged piston and valve which don’t generate the proper exhaust pressure for that turbo. The price I’m asking makes this car a steal. The person(s) that take her and fixes her up will end up with a ride like few others. She stands out in the crowd and still draws attention even at her age. Before the engine got hurt she was a dream to ride. Very fast and gripped the road as though on rails. Don’t expect to drift her, all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering doesn’t allow that. Except maybe in the snow. |

Final edition Mitsubishi Evo X arrives next June as 5MT GSR
Sat, Nov 29 2014Jalopnik recenly held an online Q&A session with Don Swearingen, an executive vice president at Mitsubishi Motors North America. If you're into Mitsu you should peruse the whole thread because questioners jumped all over the subject map, asking about getting the Delica here (not going to happen) and a new Montero (another concept presaging production is coming to the Chicago Auto Show next year), the company's fleet vehicle stance (they kill residuals, Mitsu isn't interested), and a Mirage racing series (right now it doesn't make sense). But for any enthusiast, every question not dealing with a new Lancer Evolution XI is merely a side dish. On that note, Swearingen took his turn ringing the death knell for the Evo series, saying "There are currently no plans for an Evo XI," which is kinder than his words at the LA Auto Show when he told Motor Trend, "Its time has come and gone." Nevertheless, he gave us a few more details on the final edition Evo Special Action Model that Automotive News reported on three months ago: it will be a GSR five-speed with "More horsepower, some suspension tuning, and some bits pieces that are still being finalized. Around 2,000 units will be available." Those of you hoping for a spiffier interior or a massive curb weight diet won't take much solace from that, but the 2,000 or so buyers who get to drive the hommage to The Once and Future King probably won't mind.
NHTSA releases updated Takata airbag recalled cars list, but it still has errors
Wed, 22 Oct 2014
Unfortunately, the government's list still contains errors.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued an updated list of vehicle models that it's urging owners to repair under the mushrooming Takata airbag inflator recall. The latest version adds vehicles from new automakers like Subaru and Ford that are missing from the original announcement, and it also removes erroneous entries from General Motors, leaving only the 2005 Saab 9-2X (a reskinned Subaru WRX), and the 2003-2005 Pontiac Vibe, a joint project with Toyota.
Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags
Wed, Jun 1 2016If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.
