For sale is my 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 w/ Twin Turbo AWD. Roughly 95,000 miles on the car with only a few hundred miles on a brand new Pampena motor! Also, recently repainted so it looks amazing. The leather seats are in great shape and don't have the typical wear that you find on the side of the drivers seat. Previous owner bought it from Florida and drove it back to Wisconsin. Stored winters. Never seen salt or snow!

Previous owner did a lot of work on this car and spent thousands on new parts that now only have a few hundred miles on them. List includes:

3.1L forged Pampena motor (over $3100)

Refreshed heads

Poly Motor Mounts

New OEM: water pump, oil pump, timing belt, timing tensioner

New 18x9 Rota G-force rims w/brand new tires ($1600)

Aftermarket aluminum radiator

Brand new stereo head unit and Boston Acoustics speakers

Aftermarket gauges in dash (above climate controls)

ECU capacitors replaced

3" 3SX downpipe and test pipe ($330)

ABS, ECS Delete

All wheel steering delete kit from Pampena Motorsports ($130)

Rear subframe bushings replaced with poly

New clutch master cylinder

Stage 4 racing clutch from 3SX and light weight flywheel ($629)

Braced transmission housing 3SX bracket ($125)

New output shaft and transfer case spool - stronger than stock ($419)

3SX Pre-turbo intake piping (red) ($99)

3SX Spark plug wires ($69)

HKS Blow-off valve

Brand new 99' lifters

Brand new power steering pump

Drilled and slotted rotors

New window tint

As you can see, a lot of time and money invested in this car. It runs great, sounds excellent running. I'm sure I am forgetting to mention some of the little improvements and upgrades like the Pampena plate that covers the spark plug wires on the valve cover or the 3SX oil cap. Oh, the pop-up headlights work perfectly too which is very cool.

Now for the things that still need some work.

The speedometer doesn't work. Local shop said $30 to diagnose this but I haven't had the time to drop it off there yet. It's probably the speed sensor either disconnected or needing to be replaced but I'm not sure.

The e-brake handle welds that hold it in have broken off from the previous owner. Sounds weird but it apparently is a common problem from what I read on the forums. The e-brake handle is included with the car and just needs to be welded in or re-bolted into the car.

The stereo surround plate that goes around the radio is missing. $25 on 3SX website.

The rear windshield wiper has been removed and the radio antenna was removed. Both were replaced with black rubber plugs.

Overall, an awesome car that has had a lot of time and attention given to it. Ready to drive around today or a project you can continue. With some fuel system upgrades and bigger turbos you could have a real beast of a car. Leaving it as-is and you have a great ride that will turn heads everywhere you go.

If you are looking for a VR4, look no further as you won't find one with a new Pampena motor and all of these other maintenance items done to it.

You could spend less and have faded paint, worn out seats, and wonder when your ECU's capacitors will start to leak. OR you can spend more and buy one with huge turbos and NOS and wonder when your transfer case and axles will go.

This car is the perfect balance between stock and performance. This one is well cared for.

Happy bidding. Any questions, I will do my best to answer. Email me at dnolan16@att.net

$500 deposit required within 48 Hours of auction end. Balance due within 7 days.

Do not bid unless you intend to buy.

Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for shipping.

I can have someone available anytime to assist with the pick up process if giving proper notice and details.

Car is sold as-is, no warranty. VIN JA3BN74K6PY037563

Junkyard Gem: 1999 Mitsubishi Galant GTZ-V6

Sun, May 26 2024

The Mitsubishi Galant first appeared on American streets as the 1971 Dodge Colt and then a bit later with Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Sapporo badges. Mitsubishi Motors finally began selling Galants from its own U.S. showrooms for the 1985 model year, and Galant sales continued here through four more generations before getting the axe in 2012. We saw some interesting and/or quick Galants along the way, including the Sigma, VR-4, GS-X and Ralliart; today's Junkyard Gem is a rare example of the sporty eighth-generation Galant GTZ sedan, found in a North Carolina self-service wrecking yard recently. The final year for the hot-rod all-wheel-drive VR-4 and GS-X Galants in the United States was 1992. By 1998, there were just three levels of new Galant here, all with 141-horse four-cylinder engines driving the front wheels. Then the 1999 model year arrived, and so did the 6G72 V6 engine under Galant hoods. This SOHC (yet still 24-valve) engine was rated at 161 horsepower and 205 pound-feet. It was available in the U.S.-market ES-V6, GTZ-V6 and LS-V6 Galants for the '99. The GTZ was sporty-looking, but not as loaded with luxury features as the LS. 1999 was the first model year for the eighth-generation Galant in North America, and it had finally become big and powerful enough to be considered a genuine rival for the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord (both of which had been available with V6 power for quite a few years). The 1999 Galant got a grille that resembled the one on its upscale Diamante big brother, which had five years to live at the time. The MSRP for this car was $24,300, which comes to about $46,374 in 2024 dollars. The base 1999 Galant DE started at just $16,999, or $32,441 in today's money. Those prices were in the ballpark with the Galant's Camry and Accord rivals; the Camry LE V6 with automatic started at $22,748 ($43,412 now) with automatic transmission, while the Accord LX V6 with automatic was $21,700 ($41,412 today). Both those cars had a lot more power than the Mitsubishi, though: 194 horsepower for the Toyota and 200 for the Honda. The 1999 Galant sold in the United States was not available with a manual transmission, which made the El Cheapo DE trim level a steal compared to the cost of two-pedal base Accords and Camrys. The Galant DE even came with air conditioning at no extra cost. The factory wing on the GT-Z is serious. Collectible today? Hardly, but an interesting bit of automotive history. Mitsubishi's Tokyo-bound PHEV concept doubles as a boom box

Wed, Sep 18 2019

Mitsubishi will unveil a futuristic concept car at the biennial Tokyo Auto Show opening in October 2019 that doubles as a boom box. Billed as a small SUV, the model remains under wraps for the time being, but a dark teaser image provides insight into what we can expect. Power for the yet-unnamed concept comes from a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain. At this point, we'd be surprised if Mitsubishi dared to unveil a concept that wasn't electrified to some degree. While full powertrain specifications are being kept secret, we know the design study features all-wheel drive, and it's capable of driving on electricity alone for relatively short distances – all of which sounds perfectly feasible for a company that sells the Outlander PHEV already.  Plug-in hybrid cars are often considerably heavier than comparable non-hybrid models because they gain a bulky battery pack, at least one electric motor, and yards of extra wiring. Mitsubishi promises its Tokyo-bound concept benefits from a downsized powertrain that's lighter than normal.  Evidently taken in a room with closed curtains, the teaser image shows a sloping greenhouse accented by what looks like a pair of speakers integrated into each roof pillar. Carbon fiber seemingly keeps weight in check, and part of the gasoline-electric powertrain is visible under a clear glass panel, which is a styling cue we'd normally expect to find on a supercar, not on a Mitsubishi SUV. All told, the Tokyo-bound concept looks like a forward-thinking display of the direction the Japanese firm's vehicle development teams will take in the coming years, not an accurate preview of an upcoming, production-bound model outdoors enthusiasts will be able to go off-roading in. We'll know for sure when the Tokyo show opens its doors on October 24.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Plymouth Laser

Sun, Feb 11 2024

Chrysler began selling rebadged Japan-built Mitsubishis beginning with the Dodge Colt in 1971, with plenty of Arrows, Champs, Challengers, Ram 50s, Conquests, Raiders, Stealths and Sapporos following those cars across the Pacific. Starting with the 1983 model year, Mitsubishi Motors began selling vehicles with its own badging in the United States, and that caused Chrysler and Mitsubishi to crash into the voluntary import quota that Japanese carmakers imposed on themselves in 1981 as a means of avoiding tougher restrictions threatened by the Reagan Administration. To get around the quota, the two partners created Diamond-Star Motors in Illinois, where Rivians are now built. The very first product to be assembled by DSM was a liftback sports coupe that debuted as a 1990 model under three different names: the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, found in a Denver car graveyard recently. The Laser name had been used on Chrysler-badged Dodge Daytonas for the 1984 through 1986 model years, and the name seemed futuristic enough to revive on a Plymouth. The cheapest of those three DSM siblings in 1992 was the Eclipse, which started with a list price of $10,859 ($24,120 in 2024 dollars). The cheapest Laser had an MSRP of $11,206 ($24,891 after inflation), while the most affordable Talon cost $13,631 ($30,277 in today's money). The reason the Eclipse and Laser were so much cheaper than the Talon was that the base Talon came with the 2.0-liter Mitsubishi 4G63 engine and its 135 horsepower, while the entry-level Eclipse and Laser were equipped with the 1.8-liter 4G37 and its 92 horses. This Laser is a base model with few frills, so it has the 1.8 engine. It also has the five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic was available, for $701 extra ($1,557 now).  Like the Talon and Eclipse, the Laser was available with turbocharging and all-wheel-drive. Those cars were genuinely quick by the standards of the time. This one probably was purchased as a fun-enough-to-drive commuter that was easy on the gasoline budget, and it put in just over 150,000 miles during its life. In 1992, federal law required that news cars be equipped with either driver's-side airbags or the universally loathed automatic shoulder belts. This car has the latter. Someone installed aftermarket multi-bolt-pattern wheels on this car, probably during the early phase of the Fast and Furious Era.
