Thanks for looking at the listing for my 1993 Mitsubishi VR4.  I was the second owner of this car and it's been in my possession since 1996.  This was a fantastic car and up until the last few years gave me almost no problems.  Unfortunately she is twenty years old and has spent most of the last twelve years outside.  Additionally, she's been driven very little in the last year and a half which always causes some problems.  She's complete and not in terrible shape but she does need work.  I'm going to try to list everything in detail that she needs so it's going to seem like a laundry list of problems.

Mechanical issues:
The single biggest issue she has is that when running the engine won't hold a consistent idle.  The engine starts well and runs just fine but after a few minutes it begins to surge.  The idle will rev from 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm or so continuously.  Occasionally she will hold idle but a bit too fast.  The car can be driven as is but I wouldn't say she's fit for a long drive.  Looking around on the internet the most likely culprit is one or several bad capacitors in the main computer.  You could either replace the computer or if you're handy with a soldering iron, replace the bad capacitors.
The car's active suspension defaults to performance almost as soon as the car is started.  After that the suspension light flashes.  Again, if you read up on VR4s this is far from an uncommon problem.  Normally it means a short in one of the shock towers.
The anti-lock brake light has been coming on since about 1998.  I've had three different dealers and two mechanics look at it and no one could find the issue.  I've tested it on a snowy road and the anti-lock seemed to work.  Bad sensor perhaps?  Ghost maybe?
The engine smokes a little.  However, after switching to a slightly thicker oil the issue mostly cleared up.  I know that's not a proper fix but it told me that the issue wasn't desperate but rather annoying.
The timing belt and spark plugs have been recently replaced.

Interior:
Twenty years of sun has done a number on the interior.  As you can see from the photos the driver's side seat cover is totally destroyed.  The power functions as well as the lumbar adjustment still work though.
The passenger side and rear seats are complete but in only fair condition.  The back seats need some additional cleaning but really look pretty decent.
The headliner is probably fine but does need a cleaning.  There are no rips or sags in it.
The carpet certainly needs to be cleaned but there are no major issues except for the black residue from the floormats.  A good steam cleaning would probably take care of most of it.
The door panels are complete and I don't believe there are any rips or tears but the vinyl has lifted in the center of the arm areas.  An upholstery shop might be able to fix that with replacing the whole thing.  The power locks and windows work though the locks are a little sticky.  Some lubricant may take care of it.  The interior weatherstripping is not in great shape but is present.
All of the instruments work well and are clear and clean looking.  The glass instrument faces are in decent shape and would probably only need a polish to get them in shape.
The radio is original in nice shape and works well.
The air conditioning works well but it isn't quite as cold as it once was.  It still gets cold but a top off of refrigerant would probably get it back to the arctic blast it was when new.
The glove box is intact and looks fine but it does fit somewhat loosely.
The console lid is in nice shape with no rips.
The cigarette lighter is there but no longer works.  The electrical lead seems to have come loose and I never got around to digging in the console for it.
All the seat belts are present and work well.
The interior lights all work.
The trunk area is in good shape except for the retractable sunshade.  It's there and it retracts but it's badly sun damaged.
The dash is cracked in several places from the sun and the defroster vents are cracked and broken.  That's pretty standard though.

Exterior.

The body is complete and in pretty nice shape but the paint is faded and has some chips.  The passenger side rear quarter has several door dings.  I tried to get a photo of them but they just wouldn't show up.
The paint on the spoiler and the mirror has faded.  Some compounding would probably help the whole car but it really probably just needs a fresh coat of paint.
The mirrors are in good shape and the power functions work well.
The active Aero both front and rear work well.  the rear does stick sometimes but that may be due to the car sitting so much.
The radio Antenna is broken.  It is still connected to the radio but it does not retract.
The windshield wipers function well but the arms look awful.  They could be stripped and repainted or just replaced outright.
Both door handles and key locks work well.

I've attached lots of pictures but if there is something specific you'd like to see just let me know and I'll try to get a picture of it.

Waymo partners with Nissan, Renault on robotaxis outside U.S.

Thu, Jun 20 2019

SAN FRANCISCO — Self-driving car pioneer Waymo is teaming up with automakers Renault and Nissan to make its first journey outside the U.S. with a ride-hailing service that will dispatch a fleet of robotaxis in France and Japan. The partnership announced late Wednesday underscores Waymo's ambition to deploy its driverless technology throughout the world in an attempt to revolutionize the way people get around. The Mountain View, California, company can afford to try because it's backed by one of the world's richest companies, Google, which secretly began working on driverless technology a decade ago before spinning off that project into what is now known as Waymo. After launching its ride-hailing service in France and Japan, Waymo intends to explore other European and Asian markets with Renault and Nissan. "This is an ideal opportunity for Waymo to bring our autonomous technology to a global stage," Waymo CEO John Krafcik said. Waymo, Renault and Nissan didn't set a timetable for when their ride-hailing service will launch. They left most other details vague. It seems likely it will still be several years before Waymo will be in a position to pose a serious challenge to Uber, the world's largest ride-hailing service. Although Waymo's self-driving technology is widely considered to be the world's most advanced, it still isn't adept enough to be trusted without a human poised to take control in case something goes awry with the robot. Waymo had hoped to launch a fully autonomous ride-hailing service last year in the Phoenix area, but instead is still keeping human safety drivers in those vehicles more than six months after it rolled out. That service, known as Waymo One, is still only offering rides to a few hundred passengers that previously participated in a test program. Krafcik told the German newspaper Handelsblatt last year that Waymo will likely use a different brand for its ride-hailing services outside the U.S. That could be one reason Waymo is working with France-based Renault and Japan-based Nissan, household names in their home countries. Waymo has previously struck deals with two automakers, Fiat Chrysler and Jaguar, but those involved ordering tens of thousands of vehicles to be equipped with self-driving technology for services in the U.S. So far, Waymo is only using Fiat Chrysler minivans for its Phoenix service. The partnership with Renault and Nissan also involves a long-time alliance they formed with Mitsubishi.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport gets another refresh at Geneva

Tue, Feb 12 2019

A mysterious electric SUV isn't the only vehicle Mitsubishi is bringing to the Geneva Motor Show. The company is also showing a refreshed 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (or ASX as it's known in some markets). And yes, despite the fact the Outlander Sport hasn't been completely redesigned since its introduction in the 2011 model year, Mitsubishi is only giving it a mild update. Up front, the entire fascia is changed with all-new headlights, grille and front bumper. It's all more angular, and appears to be a blend of the Eclipse Cross and that electric SUV concept teased recently. It's easily the most successful part of the refresh. The sides are unchanged save for some chrome fake fender vents. The back features new LED taillights and a rear bumper with a faux skid plate rather than a faux diffuser. The inside is almost unchanged except for the new infotainment screen. At 8 inches, it's an inch larger than the old model. It also has the ability to play videos from a USB flash memory stick when the car is parked. Powertrain options for the U.S. haven't been announced, but we expect it will use the same 148-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder currently available, plus its associated drivetrains. The current model can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive, with just a CVT on all-wheel drive models, and an available manual on front-driver versions. One final interesting aspect about the Outlander Sport just getting a refresh again is that it's the best-selling Mitsubishi in America, and the third-best worldwide. It seems strange to give so little love to a relatively successful model. Then again, the crossover has probably mostly paid for itself by now and it keeps selling, so perhaps Mitsubishi is just trying to maximize returns while it works on the smaller next-generation version. Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II points the way forward with its angular look [w/video]

Wed, Mar 4 2015

The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II on display at the Geneva Motor Show isn't really a completely new vehicle but more of thorough reworking of the earlier XR-PHEV from the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. For the latest interpretation, the Japanese brand is getting the design ready for an eventual debut for the road. While the two concepts look practically identical at first glance, the XR-PHEV II is far more possible for production than its predecessor. The grille and hood now feature openings to let the vehicle cool its plug-in hybrid system, and the rear design offers enough glass to actually let the driver see out of the back. The interior for the latest version also looks mostly functional this time and is clad in eye-catching orange upholstery. The XR-PHEV II's powertrain is a bit more mysterious, though. It's a front-wheel drive PHEV that's powered by a 12-kWh battery and offers a total output of 160 horsepower. However, Mitsubishi isn't taking about the internal combustion engine's displacement or the model's transmission. Still, the company is clear that this look is a glimpse at its future crossovers, and that would be a welcome change. XR-PHEV II's more angular design would certainly liven up Mitsubishi's somewhat staid lineup.
