The 100,000th EV sold in the US is... a Mitsubishi i-MiEV

The news here isn't that 100,000 EVs have been sold in the US, although that's quite the accomplishment. It's that the 100,000th car is a Mitsubishi i-MiEV - a car that takes nearly a full day to recharge on a standard outlet and can only travel about 62 miles per charge (according to the car's Monroney).
Jabs at the Mitsubishi aside, the fact that US dealers have moved 100,000 electric cars is made more impressive in that it's only been done since the latest generation of EVs arrived, typified by the Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus Electric and aforementioned i-MiEV. Chronologically, that means roughly the last two years. It's a number that we can only expect to climb, as EVs gain a stronger foothold among manufacturers and consumers.
Plug In America, an EV advocacy group, crunched the numbers for a contest called #PIA100K, to find the lucky buyer, who would be given a ClipperCreek Level 2 charger (which takes the i-MiEV's recharge time down to just seven hours). The winner, Rich Salmon of Grand Bay, Alabama, picked up his i-MiEV from Pete Moore Mitsubishi.

Pristine, time-traveling 2006 Mitsubishi Evo sells for $138K

Remember that never-sold 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution we told you about last week? The one with 9 miles on the odometer, its seats wrapped in plastic and never titled? And that had already earned a bid of $100,100 on eBay? Well, that Evo has now sold for a hair under $138,000, Road and Track reports. That's $100,000 over its original sticker price of $37,094. The seller was South Coast Mitsubishi in Orange County, Calif., which one Reddit user claims has stockpiled multiple Evos and sold them off at a premium. This high-fetching Evolution is an IX MR model in Graphite Gray with black trim, a six-speed manual, all-wheel-drive transmission. It's optioned with the MR package that includes some aluminum and carbon-fiber bits and boost-gauge kit, plus the Zero Lift aero kit. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter, 16-valve inline four-cylinder, 286 horsepower engine with 289 pound-feet of torque. It can do 0-to-60 in 4.4 seconds. The car's production run ended with the 2015 model year. The car fielded a total of 80 bids, which started at $30,000. Mitsubishi Mirage sedan confirmed for US

The Mitsubishi Mirage easily takes the cake as the worst new car I've driven in the last year. Actually, make that the worst new car I've driven in several years (Side Note: when was the last time I drove a Smart Fortwo?). But regardless of what I, or my colleagues, think about the Mirage, it's selling decently – Mitsubishi has moved over 14,000 of them so far this year, which is actually higher than the company initially expected. And now, we've got official confirmation that the sedan version is headed our way. This isn't really shocking, considering earlier reports, but Motor Trend received further confirmation of the Mirage sedan's arrival during last week's Los Angeles Auto Show. There's no official timing as to when the sedan will arrive, and when I reached out for comment, a Mitsubishi spokesperson said of this report, "Yep. Confirmed." So, yeah, the Mirage sedan is headed our way. It'll probably come in somewhere around the low, low $12,995 price of the hatchback, and hopefully, it'll be better to drive than its more versatile hatchback sibling. And hey, if it can help Mitsubishi build sales momentum here in the US, then that's a win, right?
