2012 Mini Cooper Countryman S on 2040-cars
Montgomery, New York, United States
EXCELLENT CONDITION GARAGEDModel ReviewThe 2012 MINI Countryman includes three models: MINI Cooper Countryman, Cooper S Countryman and Cooper S Countryman with 'ALL4' all-wheel drive. The Countryman includes a 121-horsepower, 1.6L 4-cylinder engine that can help the MINI reach 60 mph in 9.8 seconds; the Countryman S gets a 181-hp turbocharged version of the 1.6L that's capable of getting to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. Yet both engines are very fuel efficient: EPA ratings for the base Countryman are 27 mpg city, 35 highway
Following its introduction in 2011, the 2012 Countryman sees only minor changes, and they are aimed at making the car more user-friendly. Chief among them is a rear bench seat option, which expands occupancy to five passengers. A new Technology package includes a center armrest, Park Distance Control, a harman/kardon sound system and either MINI Connected or MINI Connected with Navigation 2012 MINI Cooper Countryman Wagon CrossoverBenefits of Driving a 2012 MINI Cooper Countryman Wagon CrossoverThe 2012 MINI Cooper Countryman is a tall (for a MINI), rugged 4-door model that represents the automaker's venture into crossover vehicles. The Countryman is also the first MINI to offer all-wheel drive and the first model from the brand to offer adaptive headlamps. With four doors, the Countryman also offers a little more passenger versatility than the MINI Cooper models, while the brand's reputation assures they are more nimble, eager-feeling alternatives to other larger crossover vehicles. Its interior is also more versatile and spacious, with textured-grain surfaces and trim details, plus cargo solutions including the customizable Center Rail system that allows for four passengers, or a new rear bench seat that allows for five. With the added value, the Countryman has a starting price that isn't much higher than that of the MINI Cooper. |

500-hp Acura V6 turns this classic 1974 Mini into a mid-engined sleeper
Tue, Jun 9 2020Originally designed on a napkin, the world-famous Mini launched by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1959 was envisioned as a cheap, practical city car for families on a budget. Now, 61 years later, it's a sought-after classic that many aftermarket companies hail as the ideal foundation on which to build their wildest dreams. Gildred Racing thought further out of the box than most by turning a Mini into a mid-engined, 500-horsepower sleeper. Starting with a 1974 model, the California-based firm removed the original four-cylinder engine (and the four-speed manual transmission bolted right under it, where you'd normally expect to find the oil sump) and completely stripped the interior. Only the front seats ended up going back in; the space occupied by the tiny rear bench is now home to a 3.2-liter V6 that started life under the hood of an Acura CL Type S from the early 2000s. It's mounted transversely, and it spins the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Acura quoted the six's output at 260 horsepower, which would be a healthy upgrade for the little Brit, but Gildred tuned it to 500 horses and 383 pound-feet of torque by making a long list of modifications (including, significantly, adding a supercharger). That's a 466-horse increase compared to a stock 1974 Mini 850, so the scope of chassis upgrades is long. It includes bigger brakes made by Wilwood, and a fully redesigned suspension. And, although packaging a V6 in a small, front-wheel drive car like the Mini was as challenging as it sounds, Gildred pulled it off admirably. The engine bay is now home to the fuel tank and the radiator, while opening the trunk reveals a huge exhaust. The trade-off, of course, is that there's no longer a trunk, but it's a sacrifice we'd happily make. Performance specifications haven't been released yet. Gildred simply said its 1,400-pound Super Cooper is "quite impressive," which we believe. The original wasn't; it took 34 seconds to reach 62 mph from a stop. Gildred also made several changes in the name of modernity. It added a 9.7-inch iPad where you'd expect to find a touchscreen for the infotainment system in a modern car, an Alpine sound system, a push-button ignition, power locks and windows, LED headlights, plus automatic A/C. We imagine the whole cabin gets hot when the V6 works up a sweat. The passengers sit on leather- and suede-upholstered Recaro bucket seats that are heated and cooled.
28 "flexible ladies" cram into a Mini Cooper [w/video]
Sat, 17 Nov 2012The Mini Cooper is now confirmed as a great car with which to pick up chicks-up to 28 of them at a time, to be specific. That's the number of limber ladies you can fit in a Mini, as proven earlier this week in London.
The flexible females used every available space in the car, including the footwells and dashboard, to set the Guinness World Record for the most people inside a 2012 Mini. They beat their own previous record of 27, set last year.
Organizer Dani Maynard said before the attempt that the girls had undergone extra training and stretching since last year's record-breaking stunt. "While we have not quite been able to fit any of the girls into the Mini's glove box, there is a surprising amount of space to utilise," she told UK news site Metro.
BMW and Mini getting GoPro integration
Fri, 13 Jun 2014The small, high-quality and relatively inexpensive GoPro camera has been revolutionary for Internet video, especially of cars. Imagine how much awesomeness and hilarity we would have missed without them. Finding ways to integrate the cams into performance cars is becoming increasingly popular among automakers, as well. For example, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has its Performance Data Recorder, and Volkswagen is giving GoPros to early buyers of the 2015 GTI. BMW Group is going straight to the source for its rendition, though, with a new app that allows drivers to control a GoPro from inside of some BMW and Mini vehicles.
In July, owners with 2012 or later models equipped with BMW Apps or Mini Connected can download the new app. There are a few hurdles to jump over, though. Not only do users need a model with the infotainment system, a WiFi-equipped GoPro camera is also required. The app also must be installed on an iPhone connected to the vehicle.
Once all of those stipulations are met, the app can configure and control the GoPro through iDrive and display a nearly live image on the infotainment system. Menus are simplified on-screen but still allow users to select among six camera modes, aim it and start and stop recording. While filming, it shows recording time, battery life and signal strength. While BMW's approach isn't quite as nicely integrated as the Corvette's solution, it's interesting to see automakers working to make filming easier. Scroll down to read the full announcement.
