Model Overview
All the Coopers in the MINI lineup are praised for their agility and fun-to-drive factor, and all of that returns for 2009. With the addition of the Clubman, there is a MINI to suit all tastes. The cars come as 2-door hardtops, longer Clubman wagons and as convertibles. The base powertrain across the range is a normally aspirated 1.6L 4-cylinder engine. In the hardtop models the engine is capable of 118 hp, while the ragtop sees 115 hp. Transmission options in the hard top models is either a standard 6-speed Getrag manual or a 6-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. In the convertible, either a 5-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT) with clutchless manual Steptronic are available. The Cooper S adds an additional level of performance to the MINI, again available across the range. The S is powered by a 172-hp turbocharged version of the 1.6L (168 hp in the convertible). Six-speeds are the norm on S cars, with either the standard manual or an available automatic. S models also feature 16-inch alloys and sport-tuned suspension for increased agility and responsiveness.New for 2009 is an exciting 207-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder of the John Cooper Works cars. The 6-speed manual is the only transmission available. Currently available in the hardtop and Clubman, the JCW adds 17-inch alloys, an even more aggressive suspension and big, heavy-duty brakes. Also included in the package are stability and traction control, special exterior and interior appointments, and supportive sport seats.MINIs are almost endlessly customizable, with a broad palette of exterior and interior color combinations and several cockpit materials. They are also available with a long list of options packages, which add features like an electric sunroof with twin glass front and back, automatic air conditioning, fog lamps, Bluetooth hands-free communication, auto rain-sensing wipers as well as heated seats and mirrors. All MINI Coopers come standard with six air bags, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake control and daytime running lamps.

Bought this Mini Cooper back in 2010 the car was running in perfect condition it had some cosmetic repairs to be done and a cracked windshield I didn't realized some water had leaked and damaged the body module. I took the car for repairs at Hassel Mini in Freeport NY back on December of last year I let the advisor know the car windows were slightly open and the car had to be either cover or inside the garage to prevent water from leaking in. A few days later I was called and told my car was ready to be picked up when arrived to pick up my car I notice it had water inside it had rained very hard and the car was left uncovered it had water all the way to the seats. I made a complaint and I was told that in a few days I will be hearing from them. A few weeks had passed and I didn't received any calls finally took a drive back and I was told I owed a lot of money in storage fees. I argue with the advisor who agree to "wave the fees" I told them I be back for my car to have it ready and running cleaned and detailed. Every time I called I was placed in hold I end up driving there again and calling a tow truck to remove the car. I'm frustrated over this situation take a car in just to get a module programmed and now the car carpets are ruined it has frozen water in the floor and cables and wiring hanging all over the place, I need to sell this car ASAP I'm not employed at the moment and my cousin wants it out of her yard. I'm selling this car AS IS HAS ELECTRICAL DAMAGE AND NEEDS REPAIRS everything else in the car, transmission, engine, body, suspension, is in superior condition this car has VERY LOW MILAGE. Once this car is fixed it will be worth over $14,000! Offers and trade ins will be considered! You might contact me at (917) 834-9685 Text Preferred

BMW restores classic Mini as it revives production in Netherlands

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

Mini will be kicking off production in the Netherlands, a country that hasn't built a Mini-badged machine since 1966. In honor of this event, BMW Group Classic, the team responsible for all the cars in the BMW Museum, as well as being a spare parts and restoration company in its own right, revived a classic 1959 Austin Seven. That particular car, number 983, was one of the first Minis to be built in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands' JJ Molenaar's Car Companies built 4,000 Austin Sevens and Morris Mini-Minors between 1959 and 1966, although we imagine Dutch Mini production will be much bigger when it starts up again in summer 2014. A five-person team from VDL Nedcar, the group handling production of new Minis, took to the job of restoring the diminutive British car from nose to tail.
The 34-horsepower engine and the transmission were both completely rebuilt, while the door panels were redone by hand. Help from the Mini community aided the VDL Nedcar team in finding authentic replicas or original parts where possible. All told, the new classic Mini is a striking example of what a good restoration can do to a car. The Seven was repainted in its original Farina Gray, adding to the car's sense of authenticity.

2014 Mini Cooper rockets into view

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

Here it is, all but undisguised. We've been clocking the 2014 Mini Cooper for months now, but engineers' well-placed camouflage has meant that our views have been very limited. Today, though, the disguises have been cast aside and the new Mini has been revealed in both standard and Cooper S form during a photo shoot, and there are some real surprises afoot.
For one, we had no idea that the Cooper would adopt the LED daytime running lamp corona headlamps from the much-loved 2011 Rocketman concept, but there they are, looking both unique and a little frightened. The front grille has been resculpted and and is now more rounded, integrating the bumper strike face in matte black. In fact, the entire nose looks a bit more rounded to our eyes, with all variants carrying a small but noticeable power bulge (shown here on the S model above the intake slot in the hood). The profile looks largely unchanged save for a slightly faster windshield, but the rear picks up a set of oversized taillamps that we'll likely have to see in person to get comfortable with. Our spy shooters tell us that the 2014 Cooper, codenamed F56, appears to be slightly larger in the metal than its predecessor, as expected, with much of that length coming in the form of a longer front overhang (perhaps to assist with pedestrian safety regulations).
Expected to ride atop the same UKL architecture shared with the upcoming BMW 1 Series GT and MPV, the entire line of Coopers may move to an all three-cylinder lineup, including BMW's 1.5-liter I3 that features a twin-scroll turbo, direct injection and variable valve timing, a combination good for anywhere between 120 to 200 horsepower. Eventually, higher-performance models could generate up to 300 horsepower out of this tiny engine. Our well-connected lensmen suggest that at least one four-cylinder engine might carry over to the launch of this new generation, but it may only be available for the first model year.

Mini battling sales slump again, is it becoming cliche?

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

Things aren't looking good for Mini this year. The diminutive BMW brand has shown falling sales every month in 2014 in our By the Numbers wrap-ups. If that weren't bad enough, the latest Cooper Hardtop suffered fuel economy issues upon arriving to the US. First, there was a delay getting some versions certified, and then several models had to have their miles-per-gallon ratings revised.
According to Automotive News, the brand's sales are down about 20 percent for the year through October, despite hitting a record 66,502 vehicles in the US for 2013. For their part, Mini execs attribute much of that drop due to constricted supply. However, with the new-generation three-door Cooper finally on sale and the five-door coming at the end of the year, there might be room to bounce back some in the final months of 2014. "We are starting to claw back our way a little bit. It will be an uphill battle," said David Duncan, vice president of Mini of the Americas, to Automotive News. "We will not get back to where we would be even year over year. It should be a lower decrease than it is so far."
AutoTrader Senior Analyst Michelle Krebs reminds Autoblog that external factors aren't helping the brand's sales either. For one, there's "a direct correlation exists between falling gas prices and lower small car sales," she said, and the average price per gallon is now $2.94, according to the US Energy Information Administration. Also, the booming popularity of small crossovers is eating into the compact car market. Mini has its Countryman model, but the trend could be hurting the rest of its lineup. "Mini was fresh, new, unique and stylish, but fashions change and fashion-conscious buyers are fickle. They move on to the next thing," Krebs said.
