2003 Mini Cooper S 1.6l Turbo - Electric Blue W/ White Top - Black Leather on 2040-cars

Year:2003 Mileage:87597
Location:

Matthews, North Carolina, United States

Matthews, North Carolina, United States

Great combination of the gorgeous and uncommon Electric Blue Metallic color with white roof, white mirror caps, and white X-Lite V-Spoke wheels (factory Mini wheels, not aftermarket).  Even more uncommon are the front AND rear white racing stripes - almost all Mini Coopers with stripes only have them on the front.  The windows are tinted and do not exceed the maximum legal tint in North Carolina.

It is a 6-speed manual transmission with a 1.6L supercharged 4 cylinder engine.  It gets great gas mileage, about 22 city and 31 highway.  Because of the light weight and the supercharged engine, it can really get moving when you need it to.  It has a surprising amount of power and torque in first gear and can easily start from a stand-still even in second gear.  As far as manual transmissions go, this is a very easy one to drive and would be a great car for learning to drive stick.

The car is in great condition for its age.  As you can see from the pictures, the leather interior is generally in fantastic shape.  The front seats do show some signs of wear on the sides, but are otherwise in great condition.  The rear seats have rarely been used and are in like-new condition.

The paint has been well cared-for and shows no signs of oxidation or fading. It really shines like a new penny, especially in the sun. There are some minor scrapes and rock-marks that are shown up-close in the pictures, but are not noticeable from a few feet away.

There are three issues with the vehicle that you should know about before bidding.  First, as you can see in the pictures, the car was in a low-speed (~5mph) parking lot collision about two months ago that damaged the front driver's side bumper area.  The car is still fine mechanically, but there is a small dent in the bumper and a slightly larger dent in the sheet metal beside the headlight.

Secondly, the heat does not work.  We haven't bothered to get it fixed because we don't drive the car in cold weather. The A/C compressor was replaced about two years ago with a used compressor.

Finally, the sunroof sometimes rattles.  When it starts, we usually crack the sunroof and the noise vanishes completely.

Mini adding new driver assist systems to future models

Sun, 13 Oct 2013

With all the recent news about automated vehicle technology (from Ford, Nissan and Toyota, among others), Mini is bringing some not-so-groundbreaking tech into its products to better keep the driver connected to the car. Other than stating that these new technologies will roll out in future models, there is no telling when we could see them starting to show up, although our best guess is the 2015 Mini Cooper.
Two of the more notable technologies that Mini will introduce include a head-up display system (shown above) and the "city braking" system to work in conjunction with collision warning and passenger detection. The automated braking system is made possible with the forward-mounted camera, which is also used for adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming headlights and a street sign detection system (to relay speed limit and traffic sign info to the driver). A new parking assist feature helps drivers find a properly sized parking spot, and then drivers can take advantage of the backup camera.
Mini obviously isn't the first to introduce these technologies, but it might be among the first to bring such a large number of advanced safety features into a car priced under $30,000 - though there is no telling how much these options will cost. The automaker has issued a brief press release for its upcoming driver assist systems, which is posted below.

2015 Mini Cooper S does best gymkhana impersonation in Malaysia

Fri, 18 Apr 2014

Mini Malaysia wants you - at least those of you in Southeast Asia - to know that the new Mini has a riptide of adrenaline and sharp teeth underneath its larger, more ergonomically efficient exterior. To make the point it enlisted the aid of Putrajaya roads, local agency Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid and four local action sports stars: Fizzy, Shuk, Rizlan and Nasa.
A bog standard Mini Cooper S is the star, its 192-horsepower engine and rollcage-free cabin reinforcing the message that you can do the same thing in a model right off the showroom floor... if you happen to have the same skills as Ivan Khong, the Malaysian Gymkhana Champion behind the wheel. You can read the backstory in the press release and watch how it all comes together in the video below.

Mini testing new JCW on the Nurburgring Nordschleife

Tue, 27 May 2014

Mini fans have had plenty to chew on lately. In the past month alone, the Anglo-Saxon automaker revealed its quirky, one-off Paceman Adventure pickup and dazzled showgoers over the weekend at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este with the Superleggera Vision concept. But what enthusiasts (to say nothing of dealers) have been really waiting for since the debut of the new Mini hatchback late last year has been the new John Cooper Works performance model. And that's just what we have here.
Spied undergoing testing at the Nürburgring, this JCW prototype looks about ready for production, but is still keeping its front end under wraps. We can still discern the larger front intakes and bigger brakes with red calipers front and rear, and while the rear bumper is still stock, the wheels are definitely JCW: similar to those worn by the John Cooper Works Concept unveiled in Detroit a few months ago, they look more like five-spoke versions of the outgoing GP model's four-spoke units than the BBS-style alloys of the last John Cooper Works hatchback.
The new JCW is still probably a few months away from debut, but we're expecting around 230 horsepower under the hood when it does arrive.
