1974 Austin Mini

Right Hand Drive
"Kieth's conversion" convertible. Which means it tarted out as a hard top coupe. Then the roof was cut off and made into a convertible and a roll bar was added by a company in England called Kieth's conversions".

1000cc engine. Needs rings (puffs blue smoke). But it comes with a spare 1100cc engine known to be in good condition. I just never got around to swapping it out.

It has a few rust bubbles here and there, the driver door sags, and there's some rust at the door sill. But the floors, trunk, and rest of the body is all pretty solid. The convertible top is serviceable. The cloth interior is from a 25th anniversary model. It's a bit sun faded. But has no rips, tears, or seam separations. Overall it's a fair condition daily driver. It runs, drives, and stops.

It has the upgraded to the 8-gallon gas tank, wheel flare kit, and 13" wheels/tires. Comes with a spare set of 12" Minilite wheels, a spare gauge pod, and a stereo. (I have both cassette and CD players. Let me know which one you want).

I imported this fun little gem from England a few years ago for my wife as a family fun runabout (holds 4 people easily) and weekend country driveer. It was also an economical daily driver since it gets 30 mpg. The kids LOVED to ride around in it. But now they're teenagers and have better things to do besides riding around with mom and dad on the weekends, plus the wife rarely drives it anymore, and I need the money to put into the next project in the garage.

For an extra $1000, I will install the replacement engine and stereo for you.

Sold as-is with no warrantee offered, expressed, or implied.

2013 Mini John Cooper Works

Tue, 30 Apr 2013

Location, Location, Location
Back in February, Mini invited me to come try out its brand-new Paceman coupe-crossover-hatchback thing in Puerto Rico, and not long after, I spit out a Quick Spin detailing my impressions of the little-big two-door. But here's what I didn't tell you: Mini also let me loose on those fine, curvaceous, tropical roads in its hottest hatch, the John Cooper Works GP. And while that behind-the-wheel gigglefest would have no doubt made for a story laden with positive notes and warm regards, the truth is, I only drove it for 15 minutes, so I couldn't in good conscience offer much of a story to you. (European Editor Matt Davis also got a short stint behind the wheel of the GP late last year.)
So for the sake of due diligence, I buckled down and spent a full eight days with the JCW GP back home in Detroit, just as springtime was starting to stick here in southeast Michigan. But after my time with the Mini, I was wishing that I could have just been left with my GP memories from Puerto Rico, where I was pushing the little hotbox hard around smooth corners and flexing every one of its muscles to eke out the full JCW GP experience in only a short timeframe.

2020 Mini Cooper S E caught completely uncovered at photo shoot

Tue, May 28 2019

Thanks to one of our spy photographers, the wait to see Mini's latest electric car is now over. The 2020 Mini Cooper S E was caught completely uncovered during an apparent photo shoot, probably for press and marketing materials. The finished car isn't all that different from the regular 2019 Mini Cooper hatchback and convertible, but it does have a few unique features. From the front you'll immediately notice the filled-in grille. It's bisected in the middle by a highlighter yellow stripe that contains a small opening, just like on the concept. It's basically the inverse of a gas-powered Mini's grille. There's also a circular medallion attached to the grille indicating its electric powertrain. The only other exterior changes include the electric logo debossed in the fuel-filler door, which is obviously now a charging port cover, and the wheels, which are smaller versions of the asymmetric pieces seen on the concept. Otherwise the metal body panels, bumpers, lights, windows and everything else on the body is taken directly from the regular Mini hatch. Since Mini is taking official photos of the car, we expect it's pretty much finished and ready for launch very soon. That would be in keeping with Mini's statement that the car would launch this year. The Frankfurt Motor Show this fall would be a possibility for the release, but we wouldn't rule out something even earlier. Details about the powertrain are scarce. We'd love to see similar specs to the 2009 Mini E, which made 204 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and had a range of around 150 miles. That said, reports indicate the 2020 Mini Cooper S E will borrow the drivetrain from BMW's i3, which would mean 168 hp, 184 lb-ft, and a range of around 114 miles from a 33.8-kWh battery pack. We'll find out for sure soon enough.

Mini John Cooper Works gets ready to rumble

Fri, 14 Nov 2014

Mini gave us our first taste of its next-generation John Cooper Works Hardtop in concept form at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. And in fact, we already know that the production version will make its debut at the 2015 Detroit show in January. Fitting, then, that this most recent round of spy shots shows a JCW that's pretty much ready to roll - peel back that yellow swirly paper, and you've pretty much got the final deal.
It's easy to make out the final design for the revised front and rear fascias, and we can clearly see a more robust brake package nestled behind those alloy wheels. Speaking of, we must admit, the wheels here look rather pedestrian for a JCW model, but they could just be prototype rollers and not indicative of the final rolling stock. We expect the flashy red decals of the concept to be offered on the production model, as well, though they could be optional kit.
As reported earlier, power is expected to come from a 230-horsepower turbo-four - a modest increase over the 208 hp from the outgoing Mini JCW. Expect that to route through a six-speed manual transmission, sending turbocharged oomph to the front wheels.
