For sale is my pristine 2006 MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works with optional Aero kit and English Panther Leather interior.

The car has been meticulously maintained. Body and paint are in excellent condition, with no prior accidents.  My wife was hit by some debris on the freeway, which dented the hood and front air dam.  Both were replaced under insurance claim, and I had the shop clean up all dents and door dings, and spray the doors and 1/4 panels.   Paint is OE quality, bonnet stripes are matte black and painted on.  Looks impeccable, this car turns heads everywhere it goes.

It has 6-speed manual transmission and the following Factory Option Packages:

All fluids and filters replaced, spark plugs, all systems checked and adjusted.  No mechanical problems found, you are welcome to contact them to verify.  They have a MINI technician that used to work at the dealership where I bought it.  Mark has performed the bulk of the service.

I have seen several MINIs from 2006 with less miles for sale here on eBay.   I realize mileage is always a consideration, but keep in mind that a car with 50k miles will soon need many of the repairs listed above.  The gaskets hoses, water pump and control arm bushings are fairly universal repair items for the 2002-2006 MINIs.   Although my car has higher mileage, these repairs have been completed, saving you money.

I've spent $5000 in the last year or so completing these repairs, so figure you're saving about that much over a lower mileage MINI.

Tires are Continental extreme contact DWS in 215/45, with more than 80% tread life, mounted on brand-new 17" Konig feather ultra-light performance wheels in powder black.

Also available are the factory JCW 18" alloy wheels, but they need refinishing.  All four have curb rash and need tires.  I'm willing to sell the car with only the JCW rims, keep the Konigs and contis, and discount $900 from final auction price.

As you can see from the photos, the drivers rocker panel was damaged when I installed the springs.  I was quoted $250 to resurface and paint it.  There is also a scratch near the drivers door, caused by the clip of my stupid pocket knife.  The factory appliqu'e on the rear spoiler is peeling a bit, and I was quoted $150 to remove it and spray with matte black to match the bonnet stripes.

Please keep in mind the car will need ~$500 of body and paint work to look perfect.

Interior is excellent, but there is some minor wear in the drivers seat caused by that same stupid knife clip.  Barely noticeable, but I'm giving you all the details in the interest of full disclosure.  We don't smoke and this car has never had a cigarette inside her.

I love this car to death, but we want a new GP MINI.  So we need to sell her to buy that.  Anyone looking for a head-turner that has the creature comforts of a daily-driver but is auto cross and track ready, has found it all in this incredibly fun-to-drive little package.

BMW, Sixt carsharing making money most places

The DriveNow carsharing service, which is a partnership between BMW and Sixt, is growing quite rapidly. "We've been surprised about the explosion of new subscriptions, which has helped boost revenue," says Sixt CEO Erich Sixt. The number of DriveNow users has increased from 215,000 at the end of last year to 300,000 today. Sixt says that DriveNow has been profitable in cities in which it has been established for over a year. Perhaps encouraged by its unexpected success, DriveNow is set to expand even further. The service is currently available in five German cities, as well as in San Francisco, California, and the involved parties are considering a five-year plan to expand to 25 more cities in Europe and the US. Still, Sixt expects DriveNow to report a "small-to-medium, single-digit" loss for this year, according to Sixt CFO Julian zu Putlitz. It's no big deal, just the result of startup costs in new areas. Sixt, which is Germany's largest car rental company, also reported that its own second-quarter income rose 12 percent to $37.7 million, while sales rose 7.6 percent to $585.78 million. DriveNow uses a membership and pay-per-minute model that allows customers to rent BMW and Mini vehicles as they need them. The service also acts as a way to let potential customers try out the vehicles and familiarize themselves with the brands before they buy cars of their own at some point. Depending on the location, DriveNow's fleet includes the BMW 1 Series, ActiveE and X1, as well as several Mini vehicles like the Cooper, Clubman and Countryman. Thanks to smaller engines, vehicle dependability falls for first time in 16 years

As automakers have made engines smaller and smaller to improve fuel economy, problems in those vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger. That's the synopsis of a J.D. Power vehicle-dependability study, which found that dependability dropped for the first time in 16 years, largely because the proliferation of four-cylinder engines is causing the vehicles to be less reliable. Specifically, the number of problems per 100 vehicles (or what J.D. Power calls PP100) during the past 12 months for 2011 model-year vehicles rose six percent from the year-earlier figures for 2010 model-year cars. Singling out four-cylinder vehicles revealed about a 10-percent increase in problems during the past year. This issues largely related to engine hesitation, rough transmission shifting and lack of power, signaling the inability of vehicle makers to iron out some of the problems in their smaller engines as they strove for better fuel economy. Six- and five-cylinder engines proved far more reliable. Among car brands, BMW's Mini sub-brand came out as least reliable, with 185 problems per 100 vehicles during the past year. Toyota's Lexus badge was easily the most reliable, with just 68 problems per 100 vehicles. Coming in second place was Mercedes-Benz. The overall average was 133. Check out J.D.
