When I bought this car from Mini of Escondido - who also sold it new - the ad said "own a piece of Mini History." I thought that was pretty typical dealerspeak at the time, but have since come to realize it was probably pretty accurate. So this last of the supercharged Minis simply appears to have every possible JCW option. Perhaps some Mini expert will see this and point out something it's lacking; I don't know. What I do know is it's really an incredible little car that is fun every single time you drive it and I'm going to be truly sorry to see it go. Honestly, when was the last time you've seen one like this? Totally stock with all JCW engine upgrades, JCW suspension, JCW exhaust, JCW 18" wheels, JCW carbon fiber interior, JCW floor mats, full aero package, English trim leather heated seats, Harman Kardon Stereo with dealer installed ipod connector, xenon headlights and auxiliary driving lights. All the stuff you want and none of the stuff you don't. I am the second owner and bought it in the spring of 2012 with just over 12,000 miles. I learned a few things about the original owner at that time and can safely say that the car has been adult driven only, by nonsmokers who consider it an obligation to take the best possible care of their vehicles. This has not been a primary car for either of us and was obviously not any kind of daily driver. I have receipts from Mini of Murray for a couple routine things including a fresh AC recharge a couple of weeks ago, but basically there aren't a lot of records because it hasn't needed anything. Here are the car's issues: It is missing the cover for the 12V outlet in the cargo area. The lid on the center console does not stay shut the way it's supposed to. I talked to the dealer and was told it was a weak design link that has since been resolved, but I wasn't annoyed enough by it to pay whatever they wanted for a new one. There is a slight ding / blemish on the top of the driver's side front fender. I tried to photograph it but wasn't too successful because it's not easy to notice. This didn't come out well in the photo either, but there is some fairly substantial paint chipping on the nose of the car. It would seem that I got behind a leaky gravel truck at some point. I'm fairly anal but was not bothered enough by it to have it redone. It had the original P-Zero run flats when I took over and I replaced them with a set of wider, lower profile BFG G-force tires, which are much stickier and have about 6000 miles on them. I still have the Pirellis and they are included, as are the manuals in the leather cover and two remote keys. I haven't been able to find the valet key, but if I do it's all yours. If you haven't driven one of these, it's probably quicker than you'd imagine and the handling is very precise. I believe it was supposed to have 214HP when new and it doesn't feel like it's lost much. It commands respect and attention from the driver; the rewards definitely being worth it. You can absolutely improve your skills with this car and have a great time along the way. Personally, it's made me develop such a taste for go-kart like characteristics that I'm moving into a Lotus. So there you have it - If you've been waiting for a hot JCW that hasn't been trashed it would seem like you'd want to consider this one pretty carefully. From what I've seen, you could wait a very long time for another one like this to come along, so happy bidding. I want to be involved as little as possible in shipping, but will try to assist and be helpful as necessary. It's location is 84103. I'm open to various payment options, but please let's have it ready and keep it simple. The title is clear and in hand. Thanks for your time and good luck.

Mini Hardtop Four-Door Carbon Edition breaks cover [UPDATE]

Wed, Nov 11 2015

UPDATE: Mini USA sent a announcement with official details and pricing for the Carbon Edition, which is available below. After an $850 destination charge, the models cost $37,100 with a manual gearbox. Mini doesn't offer the John Cooper Works trim on the Hardtop Four-Door, but a handful of US customers can now order the next-best thing. The new Carbon Edition satisfies the needs of enthusiasts wanting extra power to go with the two additional doors, but Mini will only offer 150 of them here. The Carbon Edition starts with the Hardtop Four-Door Cooper S and then layers on the John Cooper Works Pro Tuning Kit to create a 208-horsepower hot hatch. An upgraded exhaust with Sport and Track modes also comes with that package, according to MotoringFile. For extra style, they all wear a JCW body kit in Midnight Black, and there's a heap of carbon-fiber trim to fit the name. Matte black stripes amplify the menacing look and feature a little Carbon emblem cut into the ones on the sides. Additional improvements include LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, and JCW interior trim. The array of improvements don't quite take the Carbon Edition to the full 228 hp from the JCW Hardtop Two-Door, but Mini spokesperson Mariella Kapsaskis tells Autoblog that the US product team handpicked these parts to get as close as possible. If this limited-edition, four-door hot hatch intrigues you, get on the phone with a dealer soon. According to Kapsaskis, the first examples are already at dealers, and the Carbon Edition might not last long with just 150 of them on the road. The Carbon Edition combines the already powerful MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door model with the new John Cooper Works Pro Tuning Kit, valve exhaust system and high-grade carbon fiber accessories. The result is 208 horsepower and an ultra-aggressive exhaust note with Sport and Track Mode*. The exhaust flap is operated wirelessly via two clicks of the Bluetooth controller and unleashes devilish backfire pops and crackling sound on the overrun. Genuine carbon fiber mirror caps, air intake trim, and tailpipe finishers are offset against Midnight Black metallic paint and exclusive matte black sport and side stripes accented by a red pinstripe.

2014 Mini John Cooper Works GP

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

About three weeks prior to this brief yet balls-to-the-wall drive on the Spanish island of Mallorca, I saw that Mini USA announced pricing for the keenly anticipated Mini John Copper Works GP. And that number would be - *a-hem* - $39,950 for starters.
I am always intent upon finding the pinnacle of what a certain car promises me, and almost at any cost. Almost. When I think "steaming hatchback," I think of something exactly like this Mini GP, and the steep price doesn't squelch my pleasure. They're only building 2,000 of them anyway, and the units coming to the US will start arriving in owners' hands on March 16 of next year. These buyers will be extremely happy and remorse-free.
Five scorched laps at the very Mini-perfect Circuito Mallorca RennArena showed me all.

Mini locks out the podium at Dakar Rally

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Motor racing is often overcome by dominant forces. In Formula One these days, it's all about Red Bull. Le Mans is absolutely dominated by Audi. Citroën devastated the World Rally Championship for years. And the Dakar Rally is no exception to that particular rule, either.
The Mitsubishi Pajero won the event seven years in a row and many times before that. Then Volkswagen took the lead, winning three years running with competition-spec Touaregs once the rally shifted from North Africa to South America in 2009. But these days it's Mini that dominates.
The Mini All4 Racing team won in 2012, again in 2013 and has just won it again for 2014. Not only did it win again, but it took a devastating 1-2-3 finish to lock out the podium. Over the course of 13 days, Minis won 11 out of 13 of the total stages that make up the grueling rally, at the end of which Nasser Al-Attiyah crossed the line in third, Stéphane Peterhansel finished second, and just five minutes ahead of him, Nani Roma crossed the finish line in Valparaíso in first place. (Of course it didn't hurt that there were no fewer than 11 Minis entered in this year's rally, but still.)
