White With Gray Roof, 2 Door Sedan, Sunroof, Single-centre Clock, 848cc Engine on 2040-cars
Nottingham, United Kingdom
I have owned this 1972 Morris Mini 850 for 2 and a half years, it has been garaged for the majority of the time and taken to plenty of shows and events around England. This Mini truly is something special, still running the 848cc engine, the "magic wand" gearstick (none remote), hand pump window washer, single speed wipers and manual choke, it's great fun to drive and very economical - generally managing to get over 30mpg. Although the engine is small, it keeps up with most road traffic, I've had comments from other mini owners with larger engines of how well it manages to keep up with them.
Prior to owning, this mini had been taken off the road in 1996 when it was owned by an airplane technician, who made slow progress on restoration, he then sold it on to a gentleman who restores classic cars as a hobby, he restored the mini to the best of his ability, fitting replacement panels where needed and plenty of new mechanical parts, along with new carpets - I can provide photos of the rebuild if requested as I am still in touch with the gentleman who rebuilt it. The paintwork isn't perfect - he wasn't a professional, although the finish is great - I have provided a photo of the area that has been rubbed down causing it to look grey (primer). It has been upgraded to an aftermarket electronic ignition, and the grey interior is from a later "Mini Sprite", also "angel eye" headlights have been fitted. I have the original steering wheel if the new buyer would prefer, however it looks more like it belongs on a bus! This mini is definitely a great 20 footer! This Mini has been well loved and pampered in the time I have owned it, I have upgraded from a dynamo to an alternator. The manual sunroof is fully working, and doesn't leak when it rains! The heater works and will blow cold air too, the window winders are a little stiff but work fine. The engine is the one it rolled out of the factory with, and has covered just over 70,000 miles - and still runs as it should do, I have the paperwork to support the mileage from previous MOT certificates. It is fitted with a 5.5 gallon fuel tank. The mini is fitted with a stereo, with 5" Focal full-range speakers at the back and 3" Ripspeed full-range at the front, the head-unit that is currently fitted will be removed on sale. The bad bits: The Mini could probably do with a new timing chain, I have all the parts; depending on how soon the sale goes ahead will decide whether I have time to get this replaced, if I get the full asking price I will make sure this is completed before shipping. There are a few very minor areas of surface rust bubbling up; on the rear quarter panel, below the passenger side headlight, along the "a panel" seam bband a few smaller areas where the paint has split. Also worth mentioning is the rattle from what I believe is the speedometer cable, I have had this checked over by a mini specialist and I have been assured this is not an issue that will affect the reliability and running of the car. This Mini has been extremely reliable, and any issues I've had, I have been able to fix myself at the roadside. Even over here this mini gets plenty of attention and I'm certain over in the States it will receive double if not more attention!! I'm willing to help where ever I can to make shipping as smooth and easy for the buyer as possible, however the buyer will need to cover their own shipping costs. Genuine reason for sale, planning on upgrading to something bigger and need the money to fund the new purchase. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like any more information or pictures. The mini is advertised elsewhere and I reserve the right to remove this listing at any time. |

Mini moving away from leather as it shifts to recycled interiors
Wed, Feb 3 2021In the midst of a far-reaching transformation, Mini announced that it will gradually phase leather upholstery out of its range in the coming years. It plans to fully adopt recycled fabrics in a bid to make its cars more eco-friendly. "We don't need leather any more in the future, because we don't believe it's sustainable. We're totally convinced that we will have modern and high-value products without leather," affirmed Oliver Heilmer, the firm's design boss, in an interview with British magazine Autocar. He didn't reveal when leather will disappear completely, however. Demand for real hides nonetheless remains relatively high; Autocar pointed out that about 54% of the new cars that Mini sells in the United Kingdom are ordered with leather upholstery, which is generally either sold at an extra cost or made standard on upmarket trim levels that come with a price premium. We've asked the company's American division to provide us with the take rate on our shores, and we'll update this story if we learn more. Mini's shift towards recycled materials is ongoing. As of writing, 100% of the fabric it uses to upholster seats is recycled, according to the same report, and 70% of the material underneath the cloth is, too. Looking ahead, it will make interior trim pieces with recycled materials. Cork was used in the Urbanaut concept, for example. Heilmer's comments add another piece to the next-generation Hardtop puzzle. Tentatively due out in 2023, so possibly as a 2024 model, it will embody the nameplate's biggest evolution since BMW rebooted it in 2000. It will likely still be offered with two or four doors, though the convertible is allegedly living on borrowed time, and both will be smaller than their respective predecessors. It will also showcase a purer approach to design. Heritage will continue to shape the exterior design. Inside, the theme will come "more from a home perspective rather than an automotive one," Heilmer noted, which partially explains why stylists want to incorporate different materials. His team is still debating whether features like the toggle switches need to come back, or if they're outdated. Most can be replaced with a menu in the infotainment system, but tapping a screen is not as satisfying and a lot more anodyne than flipping a switch. Designing a new Mini requires balancing the past and the future. "We're looking to create a timeless design.
Mini's Super Bowl ad stars Serena Williams and Tony Hawk
Tue, Feb 2 2016Everyone seems to have an opinion about what kind of car a Mini is, and what it says about its driver. For many, it seems, buying one is as much a fashion statement and lifestyle choice as it is anything else. And Mini is out to face those notions head-on in its latest Super Bowl ad. Set to air during the third quarter of the big game on the 7th, the spot brings in a star-studded list of celebrities. Tennis great Serena Williams, soccer player Abby Wambach, hip-hop star T-Pain, major-league pitcher Randy Johnson, skateboard legend Tony Hawk, and actor Harvey Keitel all feature in the 30-second spot dubbed "Defy Labels." The ad was produced by Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners and shines a spotlight on the new Mini Clubman. But you don't have to wait until Sunday to see it: you can watch it right here, and scope out the additional behind-the-scenes video below. This content is hosted by a third party. As more than 100 million viewers around the world prepare to tune into the big game on February 7, MINI USA is unveiling its star-studded 30-second spot today, set to air in the third quarter of the year's biggest night in television advertising. The ad, created by Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners (BSSP), embraces many of the labels the brand has experienced over the years with a very powerful message: it doesn't care what you call it. "Defy Labels," has its roots in the fact that everyone and everything is labeled but how you handle those labels is what matters. With defiance at its core, the campaign inspires people to shed the labels society has placed upon them and instead define themselves. "Ever since the first Mini was built in 1959, it has been labeled as one thing or another. It's small. It's cute," said Tom Noble, department head, MINI Brand Communications. "This campaign acknowledges those labels in a very authentic way while simultaneously showing people MINI is more than that. With the launch of the new Clubman, our brand is growing up, our products are more sophisticated, and its time to reset the conversation." The brand worked with an ensemble cast of athletes and celebrities to help start that conversation.
2017 Mini John Cooper Works Clubman ALL4 | Pint-size performer with a premium price
Fri, Jul 14 2017Last September, Mini revealed the Clubman John Cooper Works (JCW). It applied the same general JCW formula used on the regular three-doors to the longest Mini by giving it even sportier suspension and the potent 228-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. But from there, Mini gave the Clubman JCW even more torque than other JCW models, and the most of any Mini model, with a total of 258 pound-feet. It also fitted standard all-wheel drive. On paper, it sounds like the ultimate performance Mini, and it doesn't hurt that it's about the most practical model. So how did it hold up in practice? First of all, this Mini has a serious weight problem. You might be tired of alarmist auto journalists whining about the increasing size of vehicles, but it's a major issue with this Mini. It actually weighs more than a V6 Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro weighs 3,435 pounds, and the Mini weighs 3,450. That's for the manual transmission version, too. Our automatic-equipped test car weighed more than that. As a result, it feels noticeably slower than the competition, despite making 228 horsepower and the aforementioned torque. There's an area in which the Clubman JCW could easily lose some weight, and that's in the all-wheel-drive system. It's a Haldex-style system that only kicks in when the front wheels start to slip, so it's only beneficial for traction in bad weather, not for improving the driving experience by, say, reducing the car's understeer. That's fine for more mainstream Minis, but the JCW line is all about performance and speed, so if the all-wheel-drive system doesn't improve the driving experience, it should simply be dropped to make the car lighter. Despite the Mini's prodigious portliness, there are good points. The engine is very smooth, and power comes on almost instantly. In more aggressive driving modes, the exhaust pops and burbles almost every time you lift off the gas pedal. T he eight-speed automatic paired with this engine was equally up to the task. Shifts were fast and smooth. And it even worked well leaving it in automatic mode. It held gears smartly, and it would downshift while braking to ensure you had the right gear when taking off again. The Clubman JCW also has the brand's trademark corner-carving skills. Body roll is nearly absent in the normal driving mode, and what little was evident is removed when switching to Sport mode. The car responds immediately to each steering input, and it has tenacious grip through corners.
