1971 Mini Cooper "S" MARK III
Offered for sale is a well prepared, great running Mini. I have owned the car for over 7 years and have enjoyed owning it every minute. After purchasing it I basically went through the entire car and rebuilt or replaced everything. I had a well known West Coast Mini engine builder go through the engine. He went through it all (complete list of details available on request) over $4000 invested in machine work and labor, not including parts, etc. Car runs amazing. Engine (1360cc) was dyno'd and peaked at 82.2hp at 6200RPM at the wheels. Tq. measured at 78.8 at 4800 RPM. (Dyno available as well) The car has all your standard "S" features: front disc brakes, twin tanks and the 140mph speedo. Paint is driver quality and presents well as I had nothing but driving on my mind while it was being built. (There are areas of rust on the floor and rear trunk like many Mini's, minor repairs were done to prevent further issues) No trailer queens for me!! The interior is completely restored. I had larger seats installed and had everything recovered. Seats are a combination of textured and perforated vinyl. New carpet and a really nice Suede headliner. The list of parts is too long (complete invoice is available for review) but in a nut shell; everything is new. Car is running a coil spring suspension along with front and rear sway bars. I was pleasantly surprised with the ride quality and the amazing performance. Car is on 10" Mini Lites and Yokohama's. A great city car with tons of grunt!! A street legal slot car or go kart!!! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via ebay.

Production Mini Rocketman still in the cards, but not without a partner
Mon, 02 Dec 2013There's not really any way around it - the new Mini Hardtop isn't all that mini. Considering its supposed to be the smallest model in the brand's lineup, this is hardly desirable. It's good news, then, that rumors are cropping up of a smaller Mini, based on the well-received Rocketman Concept that debuted in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.
The report, which comes from our friends at AutoGuide, claims that a production Rocketman is still on the radar of Mini's product chief, Pat McKenna, despite being officially on hold. As Mckenna explained it to AG, "the only way it would happen would be if it was a partnership with another company."
See, the problem is that Mini's current UKL platform, which underpins the new Hardtop along with the future Mini range, is too large for the tiny Rocketman. And since developing new platforms isn't as easy as popping down to the shops for a gallon of milk (nor as cheap), it makes the need for an ally to split the costs a necessity. Success, so far, has been limited.
Next BMW X1 moving to smaller, lighter FWD-biased platform
Thu, 20 Feb 2014BMW's decision to make the upcoming 2-Series Active Tourer front-wheel drive has been polarizing to say the least, but like it or not, that is the direction the company will go in the near future - one rumor put the number as high as 23 front-wheel-drive models for Mini and BMW combined. The next-generation X1 won't send all its power to the front wheels, though, when it launches in early 2016. While it will use the same platform as the Active Tourer, rumors suggest all models will use all-wheel drive - at least at launch.
A "high-ranking," unnamed BMW manager confirmed to AutoWeek that the new model will switch to transversely-mounted three- and four-cylinder engines and the same six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions as the Active Tourer. The new, smaller platform will allow for more efficient packaging, and despite the smaller size, interior space will remain comparable. All the changes should make it significantly lighter too.
Don't start wailing just yet because BMW surely won't be entirely abandoning sporty models. AutoWeek claims that the Bavarians are working on a higher-output version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with power closer to 300 horsepower, about a 72-hp boost. It's also rumored to offer a sporty version of the X1 that may be called the X2.
Mini's matte Countryman Black Knight Edition rises
Wed, 16 Oct 2013Mini is certainly no stranger to a special edition, as unique option and styling packs have been a staple of the Mini line since its return to the US market, but it's next special trim is quite a big departure from previous cars. It's based on the Countryman, and is called the Black Knight Edition.
As you cans see from the image up top, it'll sport a sinister, matte-black paint scheme, making this Mini not unlike BMW's range of Frozen Edition cars. First reported on by those Mini-obsessed folks at MotoringFile, the Black Knight Edition Countryman will be limited to 60 units, and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, making this car quite a bit different from previous special editions, which generally stuck around for a full model year.
According to MF, the matte finish will only be available on the Cooper S Countryman, although oddly, one of the teaser images shows a John Cooper Works badge. BKE models should be coming nearly loaded, which means that there's not a lot of customization done and the price tag is probably going to be exorbitant for a Mini. Buyers will, though, have the choice of front- or all-wheel drive and a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
