This is your opportunity to own a 1948 MGTC with a Moss Motors Supercharger. It runs perfectly.
I have owned several MGTC's and they are wonderful cars and easy to work on with parts available from many sources. Over many years I always wanted a supercharged version but was reluctant to purchase a used supercharger that may or may not fit the TC and a unit that was missing pieces or was inappropriate for the application. Then last year Moss Motors developed a supercharger just for the MGTC and the TD. I was one of the first buyers of a unit modeled from an Eaton Supercharger that was made for a TC. My engine had been recently rebuilt so I felt confident that it would work as advertised. (If you go to their catalog or web site you will see the criteria they recommend prior to installation)
In conversations with Moss techs, they felt that installation time would be 8-12 hours. Wrong. Total man hours to disassemble the front of the engine, install the supercharger and dial it in so it ran correctly was over 60 hours. It might have been fewer hours but I am a fanatic for perfection. Brackets had to be modified, water pump extension developed and with the engine raised, new engine mounts installed. Research recommended that the distributor had to be rebuilt and the advance curve modified to get the most performance out of the supercharger. Advanced Distributors completely rebuilt it to current and expected performance standards. Additionally, SU Fuel Pump Restoration rebuilt the SU pump to accept the new demands of 6-8 lbs of boost and fuel requirements.
As with any modification of this sort, there was still several issues related to carb adjustments, linkage and belt adjustments. Final result is an awesome TC that has about 20-25 more horsepower and scoots along like no other TC I have ever owned. It runs just as I had hoped it would and what I had expected. Folks at Moss Motors were very helpful.
This TC is not concours quality but it does have a beautiful paint job and the interior is impressive. The turned aluminum dash really makes the interior appear to be a custom TC. All the gauges work, the brakes are new as are the Firestone tires. The wire wheels have no loose spokes. It has an aftermarket steering box and it tracks straight as an arrow with no shakes or shimmy.
It is a numbers matching TC and I took a photo of the engine tag for you to see. The spark plugs and wires are new and I just completed a recent oil/filter change. It leaks no fluids. The only project left is an adjustment of the valves. They were adjusted prior to installation of the supercharger, however, it has been recommended to me to do them again. I will leave this project up to the new owner. The total cost of the supercharger including the purchase of the unit, labor to install, new distributor and rebuilt SU carb was over $12,000. The vinyl top and tonneau are recent purchases. The side curtains are clear and need no repairs.
I will gladly answer any questions about the car. My price reflects the additional work involved and the uniqueness of the TC. Be the only one at your next car show to have a supercharged TC!!
