Mg - Tf The Last And Most Eye Catching Of The T Series on 2040-cars

Year:1955 Mileage:45000
Location:

Sometime around 1967 I was driving in Austin in the MGB I owned at the time and I saw what I thought was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen.  It was an MG TF and I decided that one day I would find one and buy it.  While living in Seattle in the late 80’s I found one and have had it ever since.  But now it’s time to sell it.

You can see from the photos that the car is in good shape and has held up well in the years of its life.

Here is a general rundown and description of the TF.

BODY––Very good condition.  As far as I can tell there has never been any bodywork done.  There is no rust and all the wooden parts are sound.   I believe that the paint color of the TF is the original Birch Gray.   The paint is in good condition with just a few areas of scratches.  There are no dings or dents in the bodywork.

ENGINE––Before I had the car it was refitted with an MGA engine and transmission.  I understand that such a conversion is not uncommon on TF’s due to the original engines being on the underpowered side (I don’t know if the TF was originally a 1250cc or a 1500cc).  The conversion was well done with no problems arising from the work.  I don’t know how many miles are on the engine but it runs well.  I have never had any engine work done other than tuneups.

RUNNING GEAR–– The differential is original.  The brakes were recently rebuilt.  Any brake cylinders that were leaking were replaced during the past year.   The bias ply tires are older but functional and all hold air fine.   The TF has wire wheels that are in good condition with no apparent spline wear.  The spinners hold tight although they have obviously been hit by the hammer on occasion.

INTERIOR AND INSTRUMENTATION––The interior finish is older and somewhat worn but is very likely original.  There is no cracking on the leather seats.  There is a small tear on the upper seat back on passenger side due to contact with some hardware on the frame for the top.  Overall the interior is functional.  It’s not torn up or damaged but does show signs of wear and use.  All the instrumentation works except for the horn and the speedometer.  Both are fairly easy fixes.

TOP––The top is in good condition.  I do have the tonneau and side curtains.  I have never installed either.  The rear plastic window on the top is clear but the windows on the side curtains are cloudy.

I am asking $1150 for this TF.  It is located in Austin, Texas.
