Mg-tf 1500 Driver In Great Condition on 2040-cars
Englewood, Colorado, United States
The last of the MG-”T” type roadsters, the MGTF was superseded by the iconic MGA. Of the “T” type cars, the TF was the most highly evolved and, debatably, most attractive variant. Retaining features from the previous TC and TD models, the TF came in two varieties; a pre-1954-1/2 car, featuring an upgraded spec. version of the TD model’s 1250 engine and the 1954-1/2-1955 version, the TF 1500. The TF also included other new features and design changes. The headlamps were incorporated into the front fenders, a sloped grill with faux radiator cap and a new, pressurized cooling system. The rest of the car remained virtually unchanged, however that does not imply a sacrifice, as the “T” type had been introducing revolutionary features for many years previous. The clever rack and pinion steering system worked very well and the independent front suspension was reported by many test and road drivers as the most positive alteration to the “T” type. Of 9,600 TF cars manufactured, a mere 3,400 units were renamed “TF1500? and can be identified by the badge on the exterior of the engine compartment just below the bonnet and rear of the fender arch. Production of these cars ended on 4 April, 1955, meaning the car you see here was one of the latest produced. This car is another classic find. Sitting virtually untouched for many years, it is extremely original and the body and frame are in good condition. Around 10 years ago, a father/son team set out restoring this car. Clearly, they started out with a very clean and straight car. Major items included new paint, interior and an engine rebuild. After the restoration, this car sat virtually unused for 7 years. To this day, this car is very clean, attractive and rust free. It was finished in period correct colors and includes a new, correct soft-top of beige canvas and matching side curtains. At Classic Investments of Colorado, we specialize in the service and restoration of the finest European sports cars from the 1940's-1970's. We have completed a maintenance check to ensure that the mechanical components are in good working condition and results are listed below. This is yet another beautiful roadster and excellent addition to anyones collection! Compression check showed that cylinders 1,3 and 4 all read exactly 110psi with cylinder 2 reporting 105psi. Oil pressure at operating temperature was 50psi@idle and 90psi@2000rpm. The engine was run on a gravity feed from an aux tank. To make an excellent driver this car will need some minor work on the fuel system. The tank should be removed and cleaned as a precaution as this vehicle sat for several years. New lines are also in order and a new fuel pump and wiring should be installed (this is a POS ground car). Talk to us about performing these services with Classic Investments of Colorado and have this great car delivered just in time for show season!
