This car has seen very little use since the rebuild which I'm told was several years ago.
As a British Car Mechanic, www.britishcarmechanic.com I have maintained this vehicle, but only for the past year. I recently changed the engine oil, gearbox oil, replaced the choke cable, and fitted new cork seals to the SU carbs. If you purchase this vehicle and live locally I can continue to service and maintain the vehicle.
The car is very clean but does have a few knocks and scrapes which I have tried to show in the photos. The gold colored paint in the center dash area has worn off around the choke cable, I'm told the heater is an aftermarket unit, it shows signs of rust around the edges, it does work, well,,, it makes a noise when you turn it on, not sure if it would keep you warm. The tires look good but are over 7 years old, so I would recommend getting them replaced. The soft top and the tonneau cover are "as new" and are the cloth type material, as opposed to the lower quality vinyl. Together with the "as new" spare tire cover these items would be around $1400 to purchase. However, there doesn't seem to be any side curtains with the car.
The carpets are good but do show signs of wear in the usual heal area on the drivers side. The door panels and seats are very good with no damage. The inside edge of the glove box is coming away slightly. But overall the car is a better than average example of a good old British Classic.
I drove the car recently and found that it rides well but the gearbox is noisy, rattling in all forward gears and a little in reverse. I found I could reduce the rattle considerably, almost to no rattle in top gear, by putting pressure on the gear stick. I suspect worn selector shafts/connections, possible bearings to be the cause. The engine fires up as soon as the starter knob is pulled, and runs very steady with no odd noises or rattles.
I didn't notice any other issues during the drive, other than fresh gas would have been nice. The car hadn't been driven in several months. Note, the car is 61 years old, in better condition than most 61 year olds !!!, but never the less it is old and like all the cars I work on will need continuing TLC to maintain its current condition. Please take this into consideration when bidding.
The plate information is as follows:
