Black-Plate MG TC Stored Since ’64
This 1948 MG TC (S/N TC6885 Engine XPAG7740) has not seen the road since 1964. I bought this car two years ago but simply cannot find the time to do the restoration I would like. The previous owner bought it, but an unexpected Monterey purchase meant this project no longer had a garage spot. The gentleman he acquired it from bought it in 1956, and kept meticulous records. He was an early member of the TC Motoring Guild, and the windshield has the remains of a sticker from the 4 Cylinder Engine Club of America, an early SoCal based club. The 25,000 miles showing are believed to be original based on the maintenance log. The seller has not attempted to start the engine but the engine number does match to serial number tag. It is available in San Clemente, California. The body is rust free and the wood structure seems very sound. Front toeboards are soft due to engine/gearbox oil. It has original top frame, though the top, side curtains and tonneau will need replacement. The car was painted once in the 50?s, in what is believed to be the the original color. Seats were re-trimmed from red to black vinyl in 1956 Last run 47 years ago, the engine will likely need work. Brake, fuel and cooling systems will also need attention. Spares include a new cam for roller bearing tappets (also included). The car has a partial tool kit including the jack.
The car wears both California black plates and is titled to those plates, and has registration records back to 1956. The seller found a Jaguar D-Type Matchbox behind the seat when he was cleaning it out (pictured and included with the sale). The seller believes that this TC should be a very straightforward car to get road worthy, or the next owner can carry out a full restoration if so desired.
