Thank you for your interest in my 1970 MGB Chrome Split-Bumper Convertible. Up for bid is a very desirable 1970 Chrome Split-Bumper MGB. The MGB was produced from 1962 through 1980. Of the 18 years it was in production, the 1970 model was the only year that the split-bumper was available. Documentation that came with this car when I bought it reveals that it was a Texas car so overall, it is very solid and rust-free. However, at 44 years old, it has its share of dings. Please refer to the detailed photos for specifics.
I bought this car 2 years ago but have put my time and driving into the '74 MGB that I already owned. It starts up, runs, drives, brakes, etc. The engine sounds very smooth and quiet, at least compared to my '74 that I drive on weekends and to shows. The exhaust has a louder, sportier sound than my '74 also. I don't know a lot of the history of the car but I bought it from a gentleman in Minnesota, so I know it's been through Texas, Minnesota and Pennsylvania during its 44 years. The previous owner had some kind of damage to the driver door which was somewhat fixed before I acquired it. I spend several days searching just about every store in our area that sold red anti-rust spray paint and found one that was a close match. I sanded down that area and sprayed it with some red paint from the rattlecan to protect the metal. Overall, the exterior paint is ok. Still shiny in most places, but there are several places where there are scratches and blemishes, some of which were sanded down and sprayed with the red rattlecan to help protect from rust and be less noticeable at a 10-foot glance. The usual issues with the door crack near the mirror is apparent on the driver door, and a slight amount showing on the passenger door. The interior is in good condition in some areas and in rough in other areas. For example, there are nice black seat covers and all carpet is in place and in decent shape, but the panel behind the passenger seat is missing and the dash has some cracking. The passenger side mirror and radio antenna were in bad condition when I acquired the car so I removed them both and have a swatch of duct tape covering the holes for now, which can be seen in some of the photos. All of these items are readily available for sale on sites such as Moss Motors, Victoria British, etc. The spare tire in the trunk is bad, but it is mounted on a wire wheel. The trunk is filled with parts & hardware. In some cases, there are 2-3 of the same item in there that you can trade or sell. Please refer to the photo for an idea of what's in the trunk. I have not cataloged it, nor will I. Consider it 'extra stuff' that comes with the car. Please note that there is no convertible soft top included with the car, although the convertible soft top frame is in the trunk. The previous owner didn't bother to replace it since he drove it either with the hard top installed or removed. The tires have considerable amount of tread depth on them also, which can be seen in the photos. I've provided numerous photos of the exterior, interior, engine bay and undercarriage of the car. I'm not an expert at this, but I'm impressed with how solid and rust-free this car is. That is the reason I bought this specific car as we all know that bodywork and metalwork is a money-sink and can absolutely kill your restoration budget. Please be sure to look over the photos of the floor pans, rockers, doglegs, sills & rails. I've provided several photos of both sides of the car. I've tried my best to cover everything about the car that I asked before I purchased the car. I consider the '70 MGB to be one of the best years in the MGB line. The mystique of being the only year with split-bumper and still being old enough that it still had the chrome bumpers instead of those unsightly & heavy rubber bumpers that came out in the 74 & 1/2 model. This car isn't perfect, but if you've read this far, you already know what this car IS, and what it CAN BE. About 5 years ago, I searched for months for my first MGB and when I finally found the one I wanted, it was here on eBay. I contacted the seller and agreed to meet to take a look at it. As I was driving the 1/2 hour to the seller's place to see the car, somebody else bought it with Buy It Now. So back to searching I went. Moral of the story: Don't let this special opportunity pass you by. Current values can be found at: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1970/MG/MGB/Mark-II-2-Door-Roadster/Values The Hard Top, new Battery, Pertronix Electronic Ignition, Car Cover, and Cable are valued at around $900 on top of the NADA values. The MGB is listed in several places, locally and online so don’t delay! Summertime top-down driving season is upon us! Car is 44 years old and is therefore sold As-Is, with no warranty. The MGB is garaged approximately 1 mile from my residence in the 17070 zip code near Harrisburg, PA. If you are local, and would like to see the car, I would be more than happy to show it as long as the auction has not ended. I will be keeping the license plate to return to the DMV, so you'll need to arrange your own transportation to take the car home. I've used the services offered here on ebay for both of my MGB's and have bee pleased with the results. I can work with you just about any day of the week/weekend, day/evening to show the car and/or help complete the transaction.
