Up for auction is my 1978 MGB. I bought this car 2 1/2 years ago with the intent to restore it. I have recently moved and am finding that I just don not have the time for the car. My first two cars I owned were MG's and I have always had fond memories of those cars. I bought this particular car because of the A/C (I live in Mississippi) and the wire wheels, which were like the ones on my '69 MGB.
Once I go the car home, I changed the oil and got the car running. It was not running when I bought it and was last registered in 2000. I rebuilt the rear brakes and installed a new master cylinder. I have driven the car to the end of the street ( a mile or so) a few times and around the block several times. The engine runs well and the transmission shifts into all four gears. The brakes stop well.
The floors are in poor condition. I purchased new floors to install, but did not get around to installing them. I will include them with the car. In addition, the MGB had all of the usual rust spots, although nothing is major. A few repair panels will take care of them.
The car looks much worse than it is. The red paint has faded and revealed the original blue paint in many areas. The seats need to be recovered and a top needs to be purchased.
The good:
Runs and drives
A/C
Wire Wheels
The bad:
Needs floors (included)
Rust repair
Interior needs work
Speedometer does not work
Needs new top
I felt this would make a nice car with a little effort. I just don't have the time for it now.
This is a no reserve auction and the car will be sold to the highest bidder. A $100 deposit will be due within 24 hr. of the auction close and the balance within 7 days.
I have the title on hand. It shows the car to be a '79, but it was manufactured in 12/77. The VIN matches, etc.
A great restoration project!
