You're reviewing a true original MGB survivor, garage find, purchased new in March of 1978 and sold to second owner with just 2,000 miles on the odometer also in 1978. The second owner, a school music teacher, drove the little brown B through 1998. It was a special car to him and he took good care of it. Since 1998 it has been stored in a garage in eastern Michigan. This is an excellent fun and inexpensive drive-as-is summer car or basis for total restoration.
MECHANICAL: With just 31919 miles on the clock, the car runs great. It has had recent fuel pump, oil change, carburetor and brake service so it runs and drives well. Doesn't smoke even on start-up, clutch works well as do shifting through the four gears. Nearly everything works including lights, fan, turn signals, dimmer, flash-to-pass, wipers, all gauges, map light, seat belt buzzer even the clock ticks steadily keeping good time. Items that don't work are radio, hazard and dash dimmer switches, and horn. You could jump in the car today and use it as a daily driver with a little mechanical service and 2 new tires.
INTERIOR: The MGB comes with soft top, full tonneau (both need repair or replacement) and cover when top is folded. Seats are in good condition with one pencil size hole in driver seat bottom. No dash cracks or fading. Glove box works well and locks/ unlocks. Original carpets are useable but should be replaced to be really nice.
BODY - overall very very good condition. There are no dents or dings and the chrome is all smooth and shiny. The bumpers have no marks or tears and the lower front valence is excellent. ZERO rust on floors, boot, wheel wells, frame rails, around headlights, on hood or boot lid. The car was rust proofed way back when - see boot picture for example. However there is bubbling on the bottom of both "dog legs" (the areas directly between rear of each door and rear wheel opening), on the bottom of one front wing between wheel opening and door opening and some scaling on one rear wing top. The black color on the boot picture is of rust-proofing.
DOCUMENTATION included: The original MGB owner's manual and warranty both in great condition, original window sticker, original owner's purchase document, ALL the annual license renewals, many repair and maintenance receipts.
To return it to its original condition the little B could use repair of both lower dog legs and passenger front lower wing and a complete re-spray. The paint is faded and dull although from 10 feet it looks presentable.
Additional items that need attention for it to be A-1: wheels repainted, new wheel trim rims, bumpers refinished, new top or tonneau cover, new carpet, new boot mat, 2 new tires.
