A purebred member of Her
Majesty's empire, the MGB is coveted to this day by countless collectors and
fun-loving folks who, young at heart, love going like the blazes in a lithe,
stylish British Roadster that is easy to maintain thanks to a minimalist, no
nonsense approach and a cottage industry that provides affordable spares
aplenty. This is an exceptional car in more than one way and a prime candidate
for any MG collector who looks for a unique specimen to add to the stable. It's
a low mileage car and also a 100% bone stock (except for the stereo) chrome
bumper MG, retaining all of its
factory-original interior. Aside from one repaint in the original Tartan Red
color, it's a car as original as it gets. With only 53,428 miles currently
showing on the car's odometer, engine runs very strong, doesn't use any oil, smoke, or make any
unusual noises. The MG's coachwork fits the survivor description
perfectly. The car doesn’t appear to
have been in any accidents, as its very
straight and appears to be free of corrosion.
The repaint was only done because the original paint was too Thin &
faded to be successfully buffed out. MGBs
were manufactured for 18 years and underwent many changes, especially to the
interior. It's fascinating to behold the original design in its unadulterated,
unmodified state. The pre-1976 cockpit is generally considered to be the most
beautiful layout, charming, simple, but not austere -- right up there with the
early Porsche 911 when it comes to sporting looks paired with functionality.
Driving an early MGB is an exhilarating experience, to put it mildly. It's hard
to describe to the uninitiated the pure joy you feel when putting this
outstandingly preserved, vintage sports car through its paces. The direct
connection between man and machine that the MG delivers is just not possible
anymore with today's drive-by-wire gizmo-cars. The B starts easily, idles
smoothly, steers and shifts wonderfully crisp.
The car sounds marvellous and
responds eagerly to the driver's input. Wherever you park, a crowd of admirers
quickly forms and this car receives nothing but the most favorable compliments.
While you don’t often find 41 year old
British sports cars as nice as this I don’t want to over sell it by leading
people to believe it is a show car or more than it is. I would classify it as a number 3 car by old
car value guide standards, meaning it is completely operable, presentable and
serviceable inside & out needing no work to be enjoyed as a driver and
taken to informal club activities. As you might imagine, being an early example
of England's most popular Sixties sports car, this superb MGB is not dirt
cheap, though it is a true bargain for an aficionado who can appreciate the
value of a collectible MG. You are most welcome and encouraged to view this
fine automobile in Des Moines, or have someone inspect it for you as it is being sold AS IS . Call Ross
