Condition: Used: A vehicle is considered used if it has been registered and issued a title. Used vehicles have had at least one previous owner. The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections. ...
This MGA was built in the fall of 1959 and first sold in 1960. Having only 2 owners from new. The second owner bought the car in 1970 and decided in 1980 to let his son help him restore it. It didn't happen. This poor car has sat for the last 33 years awaiting restoration. Finally deciding that the car was not going to restore itself, and seeing the car slowly trying to return to the earth, he let it go.
I have seen hundreds of MGAs that were in far worse condition restored. While this car looks "rusty", it is only scale deep. There is no cancer on this car. The body and the frame are sound. Even better, I don't see any evidence of major accident damage to either the front or rear clip. The passenger front fender has some "bondo worms", but that is the really the only damage that I could find on the car. The nose has been lightly tapped at some point, but not enough to wrinkle the lower radiator duct panel. All the fenders look to be original to the car. The boot and bonnet are also original to the car.
I have inventoried the parts. All the hard to find parts are there. All the body panels, doors, transmission, correct rear end, 1600 engine, windshield frame, convertible top, radiator, SU carburetors, interior dash pad, cockpit rails, generator, starter, battery cover, front valence, bumpers, dash complete with gauges, side curtains, fuel tank and miscellaneous fasteners.
As of right now, the seats are MIA. I am in contact with the former owner who is in the process of moving. He will let me know IF he runs across them. So, I don't think that they will be included with the car. IF, he calls and has found them, I will note that in the auction.
Right now the car is sitting on 2 14inch MGB wheels and 2 (what look like to me) original 48 spoke 15 inch wheels. I have the other 2 48 spoke 15 inch wheels, but they are not holding air, so to roll it around I put the MGB wheels on it. The MGB wheels will go with the car.
I did not see any evidence of frame damage/repair/rust. While the car was kept outside for the last 33 years, it was covered from the elements. I have taken many pictures of the car.
Until I can figure out how to link the other pictures I have of the car, you can email me and I will send you a file with all the pictures of the car and parts.
Car was originally Chariot Red, repainted yellow before the second owner.
For shipping out of the country, I can deliver to a shipper/freight forwarder in the SF Bay Area for $400, to the Los Angeles Area for $700. Elsewhere, we can discuss it.
The transmission should be considered a core. The engine should also be considered a core in need of rebuilding. Although the car "ran when parked", I would not consider even trying to fire this thing up without at least pulling the head and oil pan to assess the situation. While the block has the 1600 on it, the head does NOT. I have not looked at the date code on the head, but I will do so in the next few days and post my findings.
Any questions feel free to email me for my phone number or send yours and a good time to call. Remember I am on Pacific Standard Time. I turn my phone off between 9pm and 9am.
