1952 MG-TD for restoration project
History: In April 1968, between my two tours of duty in Vietnam, I bought this MG in Sacramento, CA. In 1972 while driving home the oil pressure dropped to zero but no unusual sounds or smoke came from the engine. I immediately cut the engine off and had the car towed to a garage. The mechanics said the rear main bearing was probably bad and the engine needed rebuilding. I could not afford to fix the engine and the MG has been in storage for the past 42 years. I was later told that it may be a bad oil pump or bad oil pressure gauge. Anyway, due to my age and health problems, I have decided to sell the car.
Comments: The car and engine numbers match, and I think it is the original transmission and rear-end. The metal and wood, including the interior wood, are in good restorable condition. I painted the car with Rust-Oleum damp-proof red primer and drained the gas tank and cooling system before storage. The end of the tailpipe is rusted but a new tailpipe I bought before storage is included. The vinyl fabric decayed during the long storage: The 2 interior kick panels (see under top frame in parts photos) need to be re-covered. There is no top but the rusted frame may be restorable. The side curtains are trash but the rusted frames may be restorable. Of course, the carburetor air filters, Moss Motors heater, radio/speaker and gear shift knob are not original equipment.
VIN: Most states (including California) during the 1950s registered the vehicles not on the chassis or car number but on the engine number - without any prefix or suffix. That is the reason the VIN is 16381 on the title.
Included: A clear title plus other paperwork. One key. Luggage rack. Spare tire cover. Extra Moss Motors heater (I cannot remember why I have an extra heater) Carburetor repair and Uni-Syn tools. Plus some other spare parts.
Payment: Winning bidder will be required to pay $500 non-refundable down payment within 3 working days of winning. Remainder of sale price is due within 14 days of sale. All funds must clear prior to release of vehicle and title. I plan to let the auction end (9-11-2014) before selling but I reserve the right to end the auction early as the vehicle is for sale locally.
Shipping: Buyer is responsible for shipping but I will discuss short-term storage or delivery options within a reasonable distance.
Disclaimer: This 1952 MG-TD is sold as is, with all faults and without warranty, expressed or implied, oral or written, assurances or guarantees.
Contact: Call 828-287-4548 between 9:00AM and 9:00PM EST (please leave a message if I do not answer and I will return your call) or send email to billycdavis@hotmail.com for more information, questions or additional specific pictures. By appointment you are welcome to inspect the car. Thanks for looking, Billy C. Davis |
