Ever since I was a kid I wanted an MG Roadster. It shows your uniqueness on the road and you mechanical prowess as zip down the freeway at 75 MPH without a care. This car was my dream and I had a ball making it the best car I could build (within reason). I found this car 4 years ago in the backyard of a lady who had bought it with the same dream so many of us have. She drove it for a year or so, with great enjoyment, and then gave it to her son who was 17 at the time. He drove it with the passion of a 17 year old, then unfortunately, he was killed in an automobile crash in a friends car. After the his death she covered the car and never looked at it again until the day I met her and asked what was under the cover, the rest is history. I towed the car home and changed the oil and put in a battery and she fired right up after 7 years of sitting! I drove and worked on this car for the next 4 years and this is what I have done to her in that time...
ENGINE
I completely rebuilt the engine. It is bored .60 over stock and has 9:1 compression, It has a British Parts Northwest 270 camshaft for added HP at the top end, the head is rebuilt with hardened valve seats. This motor has been retrofitted hit the early SU HS4 carburetors that are the best for this engine and provide the best throttle response and horsepower. It is upgraded with a Crane Fireball ignition system, this eliminates the points and condenser and utilizes an optical pick up instead. The engine has approximately 10,000 mi since rebuild and runs beautifully. The compression is 160 PSI in all cylinders. I have taken this car to San Francisco (over 500 mi each way) and the car used no oil and required no carburetor adjustments or engine tuning, just ran great.
TRANSMISSION
The transmission is completely rebuilt with all new bearings, seals and synchros and works excellent. Clutch is fresh also.
BRAKES
Master cylinder is new-front calipers are rebuilt with fresh rotors-rear brakes are recent. This car has power brakes.
DRIVETRAIN
Driveline has new u-joints, recently the rear end has started the notorious mg clunk. I have the parts to fix it and it is simple, I plan to repair it prior to sale.
ELECTRICAL
All lights and gauges work fine. I have relocated the high/low beam switch to the dash and this eliminates a common electrical failure in the blinker switch. It has a CD player with AUX input for your IPOD. I have added door speakers.
EXTERIOR
I painted the car this spring in a color called Carmine Red, it is a Triumph color but MG also used it. The car has been painted several times and was originally Primrose Yellow (very dull). I completely striped the car down and primed and painted it. I color sanded and buffed it to a wonderful shine. The boot lid is from an earlier model because I wanted to eliminate the trunk rack that was on it for a cleaner line. The paint is a 9 out of 10 and is better than any paint shop would give you for $4,000 or $5,000. Probably more than I will get for this fine car. The top is a brand new Robbins top just installed this summer and is very nice. My favorite is the tonneau cover that I use more than anything, it keeps leaves and dust out of the cockpit when the top is down, it keeps the seats cool on a sunny day and best of all it keeps sticky fingers out of you car because no one knows how to open it!
INTERIOR
The interior is just how I received it and was always pretty fair. The carpet is of the highest quality available but has wear and tare and some cigarette burns from the previous owner, the seats are great with no tears. Dash has a fresh cover. I have removed the headrests so I could use the early style tonneau cover because it looks so good. Head rests are included and are in excellent shape.
FINALLY
This car is one of the finest you will find, I have put my heart and countless hours and dollars into her. I am only selling it because I must focus on the many home projects I have neglected while working on her and the wife demands more attention also! I know the Rubber Bumper cars don't bring very much money but this is one of the best around. I have no reserve and I hope I get a fair price. Thanks for looking and hopefully bidding.
