1969 Mgb Conv. Mk Ii Ground Up $25k Restoration To Phenomenal Original Condition on 2040-cars
Mattituck, New York, United States
1969 MGB MK
II Convertible The MGB is a sports car launched by MG Cars in May 1962 to replace the MGA.
The four-cylinder roadster was
the first of the MGB range to be produced. By making better use of space the
MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggage accommodation than the earlier
MGA while being 3 inches (75 mm) shorter overall. The suspension was
also more supple, giving a smoother ride, and the larger engine gave a higher
top speed. The four-speed gearbox was an uprated version of the one used in the
MGA . In late 1967, sufficient
changes were introduced for the factory to define a Mark II model. Changes
included synchromesh on all 4 gears with revised ratios, a new rear axle and an
alternator in place of the dynamo with a change to a negative ground
system. The Mark II US versions received three windscreen wipers instead of
just two (to sweep a larger percentage of the glass), and also a covered foam
rubber safety dashboard. This low mileage (65k), rust-free example
was the recent recipient of a total ground up, no-expense spared restoration,
with only the finest materials used throughout. For example, the reupholstered
interior features Connolly red leather with contrasting piping (a one year
option) and Hartz cloth for the brand new top, versus the routine flimsy vinyl.
The entire drive train has been professionally rebuilt, which results in like
new (tight, crisp, rattle and noise free) performance. The car has been
“sorted” by a renowned MGB specialist, who stops at nothing until everything
works properly and reliably. Everything, down to the head/interior lights,
gauges, directionals, horn, even the
radio work perfectly. The previous owner was beyond a perfectionist, so there
is literally nothing further that can be done to improve the quality or
reliability of this car. It is true show quality in the strictest sense. As you can see, the car was furnished in a
very light tan, which is just a shade darker than Old English White, and blends
beautifully with the deep, rich red leather. Note the matching door panels and
the upholstered loudspeaker enclosures and the genuine knock-off wire wheels
with redline tires that further accent the red interior. The engine compartment
is detailed to show as is the fully carpeted trunk area, which contains a fifth
wire wheel. The undercarriage is clean as a whistle, and shows no sign of
replaced floors, etc. She doesn’t leak oil, as rare as that may be, as Brit car
lovers joke that a British car that doesn’t leak oil probably doesn’t have any.
If you’re looking for an MGB that is in extraordinary
condition, the very finest of its type, and, in many opinions, the most
desirable model year; a car that is a pleasure and thrill to drive; is extremely
practical (great mileage, low maintenance); won’t drain your savings account;
and will take trophies at your next car show (guaranteed), you won’t find a
better choice than this MGB. For more information, please call Michael
