1960 Mga 1600 Project on 2040-cars
New Kensington, Pennsylvania, United States
The story the seller gave me was that this car was driven till the late 70s then put away in a barn for 30 years... why do they always say it's a barn? Anyway, while there the car was vandalized... they broke the windshield, stole the top bows and dashboard then dented the top of the left rear fender. They even punched a small hole in the drivers door. So I was told. The car has less than the usual rust for this area, it needs rocker panel and lower dogleg repairs. But the rockers you see in the photos are the originals... even what's left of the paint! The car has no Bondo I can find so I expect it was never in a body shop. The left front fender has a dent in the front. The major problem is the firewall where critters built a huge apartment but failed to put a bathroom in it. There are also a holes in the boot and the right corner of the nose... please examine all the photos carefully. The rust seen along the bonnet/windscreen area is all surface. The frame looks very good, the battery boxes will need replaced (no surprise there). The original floorboards are all there but will need replaced. All told I think the car has very good bones for a car from the rust belt! This auction also includes everything I removed from a 2ed 1960 MGA 1600! It's a complete car with the rusty bits cut away. Including a solid firewall and boot floor as well as a very good set of doors, bonnet and boot lid. The spare fenders are rough but repairable. You get two complete drivetrains (both engines turn)... plus all the A parts you see in the photos. Even a useable windscreen and a set of top bows. A complete dashboard, side curtains and two sets of seats. The second car was a drum brake, wire wheel car... the blue car is a disc wheel, disc brake car. I have a clean PA 1960 MGA 1600 title in my name. I had planned on starting the car so I bought a new set of radiator hoses, plugs, wires, points and condenser. I also got a new thermostat cover and studs. All are included. As usual the car and parts are sold as is where is. Please don't bid unless you intend to follow through with the deal. A $500 NON-refundable depost is due within 48 hours. I was really looking forward to this restoration. I've completed a TR3, TR7, GT6 and two MGBs. But I have to face the fact that age and health (mostly health) have finally caught up with me. |
