1995 Mercury Villager LS minivan - a seven (7) passenger wagon. Same as a Nissan Quest (see the blurb below) with a bullet-proof, non-interference Maxima 3.0L V-6 engine and four-speed automatic transmission. (see photos). Van  runs and drives better than it looks from the front.

The Villager LS unit came standard with Power Steering, Tilt Wheel with built-in Cruise Controls, Digital Instrument Cluster, Alloy Wheels, ABS 4-Wheel Brakes, Privacy Glass, Drivers Air-Bag, Power Side-view Mirrors, Driver and Passenger Power Seats and upgraded interior with plush upholstery fabric which is non-smoker and in very good condition. There are no tears or excessive wear. Also included are the factory original documents, owner's manual and "Villager" embossed zippered pouch (see photos).
Nice stereo system.

Rear passenger has audio system controls, dual headphone jacks, Heat/AC controls and adjustable registers.
Rear lift-gate has a reach-in feature; the rear window glass also lifts up to provide access to the rear cargo area.
No rust, leaks or dripping fluid.

This Villager has the optional center seating which consists of removable Captain's chairs with fold-up arm rests. The rear bench seat folds up and can be re-positioned on the recessed tracks (built into the carpeted floor), even up against the back of the front Captain's chairs. This provides a huge cargo area which is accessible from the rear hatch or side entrance and ample space for a camping mattress in a five (5) passenger vehicle. The rear bench seat also folds down to provide a table feature which can be used in the rear or midship area for dining, game playing and as a writing surface with no-slid beverage recesses.

Roof rack is complete, fully adjustable and functional.

Here are a few notes on the Mercury Villager minivans:

Villagers are the product of a joint venture between Ford and Nissan and were built at Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio. Manufactured and sold by Ford for model years 1993-2002, it is a re-badged and slightly re-designed variant of the Nissan Quest. It was Mercury's first of only two minivan models ever featured (second was Monterey). These vehicles have almost nothing in common with Ford's Aerostar, Windstar or Freestar minivans.

Villagers were available in three trim levels: GS, LS (luxury/sport), and the Nautica Special Edition.

Villagers come with the Nissan 3.0 liter, V-6, 151 horsepower engine. This modified VG30E engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and is the same drive train that the highly renown and reliable Nissan Maxima came with for many years. It is a free-wheeling, non-interference engine. This means that in the event of a complete engine failure while driving, the driver will still have braking and steering power. Furthermore, because it is a non-interference engine, repairs are NOT likely to reach the excessive and extreme costs involved in replacing bent, cracked or damaged valves, pistons, guides, heads, etc. -- the usual result of an otherwise simple failure/repair issue such as a broken serpentine belt, seized alternator or leaky cooling system -- that occur with an "interference motor".

Mercury Villager chassis was sophisticated compared to other minivans from the '90s; its modern all-coil suspension gave it a more car-like ride and better handling than its competitors.

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Mercury Tracer Four-Door Hatchback

Sat, Mar 6 2021

During the life of the Mercury brand, which began in 1939 and ended in 2011, nearly every Mercury sold in North America was a cosmetically enhanced version of some Ford model also sold here. The exceptions to this rule came when Mercury sold Fords originally designed for non-North American markets, and for which no Ford-branded version existed on our shores. The 1991-1994 Capri was such a car, as was the 1999-2002 Cougar (the Mondeo-based Cougar was unique among all Mercuries in that no other cars in the sprawling Ford Empire shared its body). The 1970-1978 Capri was sold through Mercury dealers here, but never had Mercury badging. One of the rarest of all these Mercury cars was the first-generation Tracer, a Mazda design that made its way here via Australia. The bloodline of the Tracer goes back to the Mazda 323, the ancestor of today's Mazda3 and the platform used for all those US-market Ford Escorts of the 1990s. Starting in 1991, the Tracer name went onto badge-engineered Escorts, according to Mercury tradition, but the 1988-1989 Tracers were based on the Australian-market Ford KE Laser. Underneath all of those cars (as well as the early-1990s Capris) lived Mazda 323 running gear, of course. This one nearly made it to the 175,000-mile mark during its time on the road, which is respectable by the standards of 1980s Mazdas. With an automatic transmission transferring the 84 horses from its Mazda B6 engine to the front wheels, this car wouldn't have offered a great deal of driving excitement. 1989 Tracer buyers could choose between a two-door hatchback, a four-door hatchback, and a four-door wagon. Not many Americans hurried over to their local Mercury dealers to buy Tracers, despite the fact that the nearest Ford-badged identical twins were on the other side of the globe. Mercury still seemed relevant in the late 1980s, but its days were numbered. The actress driving the Tracer in this TV commercial seems to have the same deer-in-headlights facial expression of the hapless driver-training students in the 1968 AMC Rebel commercial.

More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags

Thu, Jan 12 2017

The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Ford Announces Free Brake-Pad Offer If Customers Stop By Dealers

Mon, Aug 4 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers. "We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts. Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1. "This program reflects our commitment to providing customers with an excellent ownership experience regardless of the age of their vehicle," said Frederiek Toney, President of Ford Customer Service, in the company's announcement of the offer.
