Up for consideration is a absolutely stunning 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser 4 door hardtop. The Turnpike Cruiser was the Flagship of the Mercury lineup in 57-58  Car starts and runs perfectly.  Car is really fine, Don't think a nicer one is out there. Car is a solid West Texas car very dry and always garaged no rust or rot. Interior is very good there is wear from feet at the bottom of the drivers door panel inside. Paint is very good condition. Has the clear plastic on the seats for protection. Stainless  and chrome inside and out doesn't have the pitting as most cars of this vintage have with the exception of the rear license plate accessory panels which are always pitted and were a dealer factory option at the time. In fact most collector's hate me for it as they spend a fortune having things replated or polished out, she is a very clean machine. Car was stored for twenty four years in a closed down Department store across from Bonanza actor Dan Blockers parents general store in O'Donnell with black washed windows from 1985 through 2009 when I got it. O'Donnel which is 50-60 miles south of Lubbock. Car was purchased new from Lynn County Tractor Sales, Mercury Sales Division in Tahoka Texas by Warren D. Smith in 1957 he owned the car til 1985 and sold it to his sister who loved the car but only put new tires and parked it after only driving it 200 miles which is certified on the title on 1/7/86. I purchased the car in April 09. The tires in which she put on new then had sat so long in the store they had flat sides to them although treads were as new.

Radio does not work. Think it needs a new vibrator tube.
All lights work including turn signals and brake and horn. Lenses all good no cracks or repairs.
Tachometer and gauges all work as well.
Push button start and shifting.
Car has been gone through.
Engine was rebuilt in Sept 2009 new motor mounts as well.
Transmission serviced also new U-joints.
I do have receipts for all work done.
Car still has the original factory grease pencil marks on the underside of the hood and firewall.
60 Amp Generator
New gas tank.
Cruiser skirts with correct hardware (Trim)

Carb rebuilt as well
Front end rebuilt

Brakes are new all the way around as well as Treadle Vac rebuilt by Dallas Power Brake.
Rear springs re-arched.
New Coker wide white radials.
One small ding in rear bumper that has effected chrome on upper edge of the top half of the bumper but not bad.
If you want to come and see it and we can take her out for a spin. Car is for sale locally so I do reserve the right to pull if it sells. Please e-mail any questions or concerns about the car and I will respond. From the ones I have seen on Ebay this one is by far the finest. If you would rather talk on the phone please e-mail and I will give you my number. Thanks for looking. Car is very roadworthy. If you have wanted one this is one you should consider. No disappointments here! Bob

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?

Fri, Oct 23 2015

In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?

Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar

Thu, Feb 25 2021

We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste.  When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled.  Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes.  "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass.  Related Video:

Ford recalls over 953,000 vehicles to replace Takata airbag inflators

Fri, Jan 4 2019

DETROIT — Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger airbag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel. The move includes over 782,000 vehicles in the U.S. and is part of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history. Included are the 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the 2010 and 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, the 2010 and 2011 Mercury Milan, and the 2010 to 2014 Ford Mustang. Some of the recalls may be limited to specific geographic areas of the U.S. Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create an explosion to inflate airbags. But it can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity and explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by the inflators. Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries in vehicles included in this recall. Dealers will replace the inflators. Ford will notify owners about the recall starting on Feb. 18, and the company has replacement parts available for dealers to order, said spokeswoman Monique Brentley. In previous Takata recalls, parts availability had been an issue. Owners can go to this Ford website and key in their vehicle identification number to see if their cars and SUVs are being recalled. The same information will be available soon at the NHTSA recall website. More than three years after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took over management of recalls involving Takata inflators, one third of the recalled inflators still have not been replaced, according to an annual report from the government and a court-appointed monitor. The report says 16.7 million faulty inflators out of 50 million under recall have yet to be replaced. And 10 million more inflators are scheduled to be recalled this month, including the Ford vehicles. Safety advocates said the completion rate should be far higher given the danger associated with the inflators. The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. The inflators grow more dangerous as they get older because ammonium nitrate deteriorates due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Related Video:
