History

1949 was the high water mark for the Mercury. This is one of the rarest and most desired Mercury's Built. This is the first year of the totally redesigned body.  The new Mercury was longer, lower, and wider the its predecessors and went on to be the ultimate 50's hot car for the youth as immortalized by James Dean.

This car is equipped with many options such as the 255 Cubic inch flat head v8 engine mated to a 3 spd manual transmission, Rare Factory Overdrive, Power Windows, Power Top, Power seat, full instrumentation gauges, factory clock, window washer system, Dual exhaust, High compression Champion cylinder heads, High Performance exhaust manifolds, Smittys exhaust, Factory Fender Skirts. and original accesory Mercury driving lights.

Condition

This car received a Concourse restoration prior to being a part of two prominent Museums and collections. There are photos accompanying the car from the time of the restoration. This was a solid original car with "Original Paint" prior to the restoration. This car was very original and still retains some original items like the original glass, Sunvisors, glovebox lineing, hang tags, etc. exemplifying its originality. This was a high end restoration and all chrome has been redone to high show standards. Paint and body is beautiful. The car was redone back to correct original colors. Exterior color code is #31 Bermuda Cream. Interior is correct code #4866 Maroon Leather/Tan cloth interior. The car is finished with a tan hartz cloth canvas top. There is a couple of chips on edge of fender but that is all the flaws to speak off. The chip has been touched up. The body is super solid and does not show any signs of blemishes.  Engine Transmission, and rear were all rebuilt as well during the process. All the gauges were restored and chrome plated better then new. The interior was done to exact original specs and was redone in correct materials. Real genuine leather was used. Driving Impression

The car starts up with easy. The car has a great classic muscle tone to it. When you slide behind the wheel, you will notice all gauges are operating as they should. All the windows go down quickly as well as the Convertible top. The clutch, transmission and brakes feel smooth and work as they should. This car is truly a pleasure to drive. The only thing I noticed not working was the clock. It was completely restored but has stopped. Everything else works as it should and this car is ready for some pleasure driving.  With the history, prominence, and originality, this is most likely the best 1949 Mercury Convertible available. These cars are so rare and to find one in this condition is almost non-existent. If you have been looking for the ultimate '49 Mercury here is your opportunity.

Ford Announces Free Brake-Pad Offer If Customers Stop By Dealers

Mon, Aug 4 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers. "We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts. Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1. "This program reflects our commitment to providing customers with an excellent ownership experience regardless of the age of their vehicle," said Frederiek Toney, President of Ford Customer Service, in the company's announcement of the offer. Scroll down to read the all the details.

NHTSA advances investigation of Ford Crown Victoria headlights

Sat, Aug 15 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation into reports of suddenly failing headlights on 517,945 examples of the 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The government started looking into this problem in April when the North Carolina Consumers Council filed a defect petition with the agency. Now, the inquiry has moved to the next step. According to NHTSA's documentation (as a PDF), it examined its own database and worked with Ford to come up with a total of 3,609 complaints of the front lighting control module suddenly failing. When this happens, drivers lose the low-beam headlights, but the high-beams can be used by holding the stalk. Sometimes turning the switch off and on fixes the issue. Additionally, there are 15 allegations of crashes, and one reported shoulder injury. NHTSA's preliminary evaluations "evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect" and don't necessarily lead to a recall. NHTSA looked into this problem once before in 2008 and 2009 and decided that a recall wasn't necessary. Ford also extended the warranty on the front lighting control module for these vehicles. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlights Date Investigation Opened: AUG 10, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: PE15028 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: After receiving a defect petition (DP15002) concerning the loss of headlights and other exterior lighting in model year (MY) 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 605 reports (for all submission dates) alleging headlight failure. The complaints indicate failures of both low beam headlights typically while driving, a defect condition that was evaluated under a prior ODI investigation (PE08066). Most consumer VOQs indicate that the headlights failed suddenly and without warning leaving the driver with no forward lighting, however some report the headlights flickered or dimmed prior to turning off. In some cases drivers were able to turn the headlights back on after a period of time while others reported the headlights would not come back on at all.

Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury

Mon, May 14 2018

Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:
