This is your chance to own a real piece of history. This is something that can never be recreated. This Mercury was one of the last cars that the Sultan of Chop himself chopped, Dick Dean. I have the pictures and the documentation to prove it. The car just had fresh paint put on and new interior installed. This is a great car, and can be driven anywhere. Below are some of the features:

1.) Headlights frenched, using '51 Ford bezels cut down 5/8" so as to not be too deep in the fender.

2.) Parking lights were relocated.

3.) Front bumper was moved back approx. 4"

4.) The tail lights are '51 Studebaker Commander with homemade buckets and mounted horizontally.

5.) Rear fenders are welded and moulded to the body, as is the stone deflector, which is also extended down at the ends to flow with the lower edge of the fenders.

6.) The rear bumper has been narrowed 3" and moved closer to the body.

7.) It has been nosed, decked and shaved.

8.) It originally came to me with no stainless trim, we added the Mercury stainless.

9.) It is chopped 4" at the B pillars, not sure of the measurement at the front and rear. I have the B Pillar cut out.

10.) Power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, working spots, SBC, automatic trans,

11.) Restored, original 1950 Mercury accessory wheel

12.) All the receipts and paperwork

Problems:

The paint did not come out as expected. It has some flaws. I wish it did not, because I did not pay for flaws. The door poppers do not work as well with the new interior. The doors are pretty tight. Someone could probably do some adjusting and get them to function a little better.

This is an old Kustom and I strongly urge you to come look at the car and drive it. Once it is sold, it is the property of the buyer. Car is sold as is. I can not be your eyes or ears. Payment due in full within seven days of auction end. Payment via cash or wire transfer only.

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags

Thu, Jan 12 2017

The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes

Mon, 18 Jul 2011

Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
