This 2002 Mercury Mountaineer is being sold by the original owner in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The vehicle has been treated well and maintained properly, and is in good condition with 96,000 miles. The vehicle has been owned by a non-smoking family. The interior is clean. The interior is leather. Seating surfaces show signs of minor wear, have no holes or burns. The carpeting is in good shape with the exception of where the driver's right foot plants for acceleration. The air conditioning works great and delivers icy cold air into the cabin via automatic climate control (driver and passenger control).
The engine runs really well. Shifting is smooth. Acceleration is strong and without hesitation. All Wheel Drive works perfectly. Antilock brakes work perfectly as well. A brand new windshield was installed just 20 miles ago as a bonus to the new owner. Oil has been changed in the vehicle every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, including just 20 miles ago. Air filter changed 20 miles ago too. Transmission fluid changed once at 40,000 miles or so. Brakes pads are good and don't need attention. Michelin tires are in good condition and have plenty of tread remaining.
SUV comes with factory equipped Class III trailer towing package. Vehicle has never been used to tow anything other than small utility trailer. The SUV runs well enough to reliably tow a boat or a small camper with ease.
This car has served me and my family well. The only reason I am selling it is because it was time for us to get a new vehicle. This a good vehicle and I wouldn't hesitate to take my family on a long trip in it.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch
Tue, 16 Jul 2013A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system. The suit maintains that Ford is aware of the problem but has yet to submit a workable and acceptable solution to MFT customers. Scroll down if you'd like to read the full press release.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
