1963 Mercury Monterey w/ Breezway back window / 4dr Hardtop this one 1 of Mercurys Top of the Line models for 1963... with a really cool optional power back window that slides up and down, and honestly you are very aware of it while driving around its so unique. Some quick history about the car in the last few yrs. This car has been here in Tucson pretty much its whole life and has been a daily driver for a lady up till just a few months ago. BUT about 3 months ago, there was a small engine fire under the hood. The body was very clean for its ago, but when the firetruck showed up to put out the fire, they put a nice dent in the top of the RF fender to make an area to spray into to put the fire out. The insurance company after the fire said the car was totalled, so the title then was branded Salvage. It was far from totalled, but thats not how the insurance company saw it. But the last owner got paid, kept the car and we bought it, hence the reason for the title like it is. Turns out while repairing it and getting it back on the road, we found the rear float had come apart, causing the carb to flood out, which in turn we think this is what caused the fire. To get it up and running faster, we ran new appropriate wires from the firewall to the starter solenoid, the distributer and back so the car would start again using the key like normal. We installed a new carb float and new distributer, cap, rotor plugs and wires. Within a few minutes the car fired right up and runs very well actually. The brakes need to be bled some as I can feel some air in the lines (going to try to do that this week) But the car has recently had some brake work done too and the PB do feel good. Because of the wiring not all fixed, the brake lights are not working as is the back window at the moment. But I did find a decent used harness for under the hood, and it will come with the car. If I have time Ill try to get it installed. I also noticed that there seems to be a small leak in one of the PS hoses. PS works well, but that hose will need to be replaced soon. This car runs so well and fun to drive, I almost hope it doesnt sell, because Id love to keep it and drive it around for the holidays and use it to go looking at Christmas Lights with the family this holiday !! Great color combo : 60s cool Aqua and green colors. Shows 103k on the odometer and it could be original. DRIVETRAIN: original 390 4v motor runs and sounds good. The C6 trans works in all the forward gears, but Reverse does Not seem to be functional, not exactly sure why. Engine bay still a little dirty from the fire, so it will need some cleaning and detailing to make it look nicer. AC all connected and could possibly work, didnt try it yet but the last owner said her dad did do work on the AC before Summer and it worked then. Original rear end with 3:00 gears has no issues. INTERIOR: for its age looks unrestored and better then most Az cars this old mostly due to the fact its been in a garage most of its life here in Az. If it had a new headliner and carpet it would be almost done for a fun driver. Dash light look great during night driving , not dim some older cars and think they are all stock still. The stock AM Radio works well too and fun to listen to oldies stations when cruising around. LF dr flat window cracked, and needs new rollers for the window. Dr side rear side window off the tracks and will need at least new rollers or possible regulator. Other 2 windows on the PS are in much better shape. Power sliding rear back window did work before the wiring fire, but Im going to try to power it up this week so I can roll it up and down with the factory switch. All the chrome inside the car, along the dash is in Amazing Shape for its age, check out the 150+ pics !!! Trunk is very clean and original, although the carpet trunkmat has oil stains on it. SUSPENSION: just all original Mercury stuff intact and feels ok. Works fine as is for a daily driver, tires arent too bad either.. also have a receipt in the glove box for an alignment done in the last yr. The term Land Yacht comes to mind, as it glides over speedbumps like a old big Merc ! Maybe for a more modern look, toss on some more modern 20" wheels. We actually have a full set available as an OPTION if there is a winner and they want a set. Near the bottom of all the pics Ill post a pic of the American Racing wheels we have available for the car with tires. Both are new in the box wheels and tires. BODY: very rust free and straight sheetmetal front to back BUT you can see some areas that have had some what I call minor repairs / dents fixed over the yrs and near the rear there is a new dent on the dr side (see pics) Floors are very SOLID from under neath the car, only saw a few small areas that got some rust. Its very obvious this car has been here in the dry AZ Climate most if not all its life by the lack of rust on the body. All the lower areas of the car are very very solid and dont believe they have ever needed any repairs. (see pics) EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE THE PICS BELOW SPEAK VOLUMES but Im sure I may of overlooked some stuff. Check out over 100 pics below, be patient it may take a minute or 2 for them to all load. Low reasonable Reserve Bid Early and bid smart so you dont lose out !! ALL THE PICS BELOW ARE OF THE ACTUAL CAR YOU ARE BIDDING ON AND TAKEN LAST WEEK
Our older cars are more Probably the BEST represented Mercurys on Ebay. I bank with Bank of America, which makes things easy for many out of |

Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury
Mon, May 14 2018Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:
Ford recalls over 953,000 vehicles to replace Takata airbag inflators
Fri, Jan 4 2019DETROIT — Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger airbag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel. The move includes over 782,000 vehicles in the U.S. and is part of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history. Included are the 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the 2010 and 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, the 2010 and 2011 Mercury Milan, and the 2010 to 2014 Ford Mustang. Some of the recalls may be limited to specific geographic areas of the U.S. Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create an explosion to inflate airbags. But it can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity and explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by the inflators. Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries in vehicles included in this recall. Dealers will replace the inflators. Ford will notify owners about the recall starting on Feb. 18, and the company has replacement parts available for dealers to order, said spokeswoman Monique Brentley. In previous Takata recalls, parts availability had been an issue. Owners can go to this Ford website and key in their vehicle identification number to see if their cars and SUVs are being recalled. The same information will be available soon at the NHTSA recall website. More than three years after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took over management of recalls involving Takata inflators, one third of the recalled inflators still have not been replaced, according to an annual report from the government and a court-appointed monitor. The report says 16.7 million faulty inflators out of 50 million under recall have yet to be replaced. And 10 million more inflators are scheduled to be recalled this month, including the Ford vehicles. Safety advocates said the completion rate should be far higher given the danger associated with the inflators. The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. The inflators grow more dangerous as they get older because ammonium nitrate deteriorates due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Related Video:
NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey
Wed, 09 Jan 2013The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
