Offered for sale is my 1955 Mercury Monterey 2-door hardtop, with a 292 V-8
engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, electric seat, 86,240
original miles, white with red top, red and white interior, nice chrome, good tires,
excellent condition. Please respond by e-mail (kpex99@ykwc.net) with any questions.
You may also call (541) 410-8639 and leave message.
I have owned, driven and enjoyed this car for 20 years. My reason for selling is I have too
many other projects, I need the extra shop space, and the car doesn't get used much
any more. It's been garage stored, well maintained and pampered during the time of
my possession, all of which has been in eastern Oregon, a high desert dry climate.
I bought it from a private party in Hemet, California.
The car is all original, except for a few minor add-ons by a previous owner (rear air shocks,
AM-FM stereo cassette). It had late model front disc brakes when I bought the car,
but I changed them back to the original-style brakes. The tires are fairly new radials.
I believe this is an original car that was (prior to my ownership) re-painted, re-chromed and
re-rubber sealed around windows. It does not appear to have been in a wreck or
had any body work done. I believe the odometer miles (86240) are accurate. I think
the upholstery is original. The electrical system is 6-volt.
According to a document given to me at purchase time (and there is no way I can verify the
document's authenticity, other than the information seems reasonable, considering the
overall condition of the car) the engine and transmission were professionally rebuilt at
55,000 miles, the clock rejeweled and the radio retubed.
This car is mechanically sound. It runs and drives very nicely. The body and frame are
rust-free. The chrome and paint is good, but not perfect…..there are a few paint chips,
but no dents or scratches. The "flaws" include a couple maintenance items I have not
had time to fix lately: the headliner is starting to come apart at the seams, and the
speedometer needs repair. The last time I drove the car the speedometer started
acting erratic above 25 mph and howling a lot, so I unhooked the speedom cable
beneath the dash. The added-on AM-FM stereo cassette does not work. The clock
works, but is currently unhooked (because it drains the battery). I have never hooked
up the original radio, so I don't know if it works or not.
This car has been a lot of fun to own and drive. The first 10 years, it only got driven to
church on Sunday and an occasional "cruise" or a date on Saturday night…
….probably about 500 miles per year. The last 10 years it has not had much use,
probably about 100 miles per year. I have never taken the car to any kind of "show",
but driving the Merc around town, it get's plenty of "double-looks" and cheers and
compliments.
Seller states if sold, car will be sold "AS-IS-WHERE-IS" with no guaranty or warranty.

Is this '47 Chevrolet a rat rod or a sports car?

Sun, May 22 2016

These days there are plenty of vehicles that blur the conventional automotive class structures. For instance, was the Honda Crosstour a wagon or an SUV? And what exactly was the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet? Regardless, those line-blurring cars (or trucks) are out there, and though this one didn't roll off a production line, it's still quite the automotive head-scratcher. Hailing from Missouri, this epic creation is one part mad science experiment, one part 1947 Chevrolet pickup, and one part '95 Mercury Cougar. Add it all up and you get an awesome truck-sports-car hybrid, complete with an outrageous wing and a V8 to boot. And interestingly enough, it's up for sale . RELATED: Check out this Wild-Styled Lamborghini Rat Rod So how does it all come together? According to the listing, the Chevrolet truck cab (which had previously been chopped) was sanded down to bare metal and given a thorough shellacking of clear coat. It was then melded together with the front end of a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, and set low to the ground on Bilstein suspension drop spindles. Stance achieved. But instead of fielding an engine from either of those pickups, it pulls its heart from a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV—a big 5.3-liter V8 heart, that is. It comes backed-up to a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Towards the rear however is where things get really interesting. A Copper Pearl coated tube frame chassis both attaches the rear independent suspension (a la Mercury Cougar) to the racy spoiler, as well as secures the rat rod's rear-mounted radiator, fan, and fuel tank. I'm not quite sure why, but it just looks glorious. RELATED: Reports Say Mid-Engine Corvette Will Arrive in 2018 Inside the vintage cab, the Chevrolet furthers its racing proclivities (it's said to have won burnout and auto-cross events) with a pair of harnessed racing seats, a drift brake, a detachable steering wheel, and a tachometer with oil and temperature gauges, but oddly no speedometer. The shifter is a crescent wrench. And its shift boot? That's a Crown Royal Purple bag. All in all, this grin-worthy Frankenstein creation tallies up bits and pieces from four different vehicles (five if you include the Camaro wheels), which make it truly a mash-up of epic proportions. Internet, what do you think? Related Video: This article by Zach Doell originally appeared on Boldride. NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
